UFC NEWS – With Jon Jones Wanting Immediate Return To Action, Dan Henderson May Leapfrog Evans. Vs. Davis Winner

“The funny thing you should say about Jon Jones and him saying he wants some time off, he called up four days ago and said ‘okay, let’s go I’m done with vacation.’ He said he wanted to take all this time off and then they were calling me four days ago saying he wants to fight as soon as possible. He’s ready to go… What could end up happening is Dan Henderson fights Jon Jones first, and then it would be close to the time that Rashad (Evans) fights. Or we see how things go with Rashad and Rashad fights him first.”

In a recent interview with ESPN radio UFC president Dana White dropped a bombshell when he said that despite original plans, Dan Henderson may be next in line for a shot at the title of Jon Jones.

In the main event of UFC on FOX 2, Rashad Evans and Phil Davis are set to square off in a matchup that will give the winner number one contender status and a chance to face the champion Jon Jones. They were expected to be next in line.

In the world of Jones, following his successful title defense over Lyoto Machida, he had stated that he wanted an extended vacation from competition. After competing four-times in 2011 and taking out three-legends of the sport in the process it was expected that Jones would be out of action until summer 2012. However, that is no longer the case.

With Jones wanting to return to action as soon as possible, the only reasonable matchup for him is Dan Henderson. If he truly doesn’t want to wait for the Evans vs. Davis winner, this bout is the only one that makes sense.

In my estimation, if what White says is true, it will be Hendo vs. Jones at UFC 145 which is still in need of a headliner and will give each side enough time to have a successful training camp.

Let’s see what happens.

  1. EdSoares'Balls says:

    Scott Hernandez is a faggot.

    • Chartmonster says:

SFTU douchebag! You don’t like it GTFO with your dumbshitts FOOL! This is about Hendo kicking the shitt out of jones. You got a problem w scott set something up at Penn gym in Hilo or u can keep hiding behind EdSoares’nutts!

      Hendo for the win!

      • phace says:

Actually, it’s to watch Jon Jones dispose of Hendo so all is clear for him to fight Evans. If he beats Evans after Hendo then there’s basically nothing left(unless maybe they want to throw Davis and Gustaffson in there afterwards).

    • Truth Hurts says:

      LOL!

  2. Kevin a says:

    Chael vs jones……

    • The King 722 says:

2 different weight classes bro, chael is 185 and barely even that after he stopped using steroids, and jon jones has a hard time making 205 because of his musculo-skeletal structure

      • Mr.Rusk says:

Guess you were sleeping when chael called out Gsp and jones…..and chael walks around at at least 215/220

        • Roofgod says:

I know a kid that wrestles in Sonnens wrestling camp in Oregon. Chael is in there everyday wrestling with all the college kids. The kid says he is a beast and easily 220.

        • Calvin says:

with chaels credentials even if he wouldnt weight that much he would still give a great fight if your good at wrestling it doesnt matter what weight a person is i mean sure its an advantage but its not something to worry too much about

        • Thetude says:

doesnt matter how heavy he is, chael wouldnt stand a chance against jones, nobody in any division besides heavyweight can beat jones, JDS vs Jones would be epic but i still would have to give it to bones by decision

        • phace says:

He’s good but I’d keep him away from the heavyweights for now. That could be damaging to his career at this point.

      • malachi says:

217 of steel and sex appeal.

      • Chartmonster says:

722..where u been hiding under a rock..Chael walks around at 220 same size as anderson! 205 will be a walk in the park!

      • anthony says:

you know chael still uses steroids

    • Chartmonster says:

I agree either one of the baddasses fromTeam Quest will get it done!

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

I think he is moving up if….

      He loses to Munoz..

Loses to Anderson.. or Wins the title and loses it to Anderson in a rematch.

  3. Say "NO" 2 Steroids says:

Jones VS Evans. I think the buyrates would go like a million.

  4. bdizz says:

Love Dan but don’t see him possessing enough skills to beat this kid. Only shot I think he has is the punchers chance dealio – 84 inches that’s going to be hard to get inside.

  5. Thetude says:

i will say again, jones has a 13 and a half inch reach advantage on hendo. dan will never get close enough to drop the h bomb. Jones by tko

  6. CanILive says:

    jon wants adnersonnnnnnnnnnn

  7. Jb says:

Hendo is a legend but doesn’t have what it takes. Jones has to many weapons and won’t let hendo use his only weapon, the right hand

  8. Hendo would knock Bones out within two rds. Nothing would stop him from closing the distance and landing that power punch. If he hits Bones clean once and he is still standing he will go into LnP mode.

    • Matthew Logan says:

r u high? Jones would smash this fool

      • CanILive says:

no the old timers just can’t deal with change

      • No kid “this fool” would knock Jones the fuck out. Nobody can take that hammer of a right hand and be the same man afterwards. Jones has pillow hands.

        • Matthew Logan says:

You think he can even get close enough to him to land it? The only person I think that could get close enough to land a KO punch is Anderson, but thatd still be a challenge even for The Spider

        • Yes i can. Randy Couture said Hendo will have no problem closing the distance against Jones. He will walk through his pillow hands and KHTFO.

        • Pillow Hands says:

“Randy Couture said…therefore it is THE TRUTH.”
hahaha…Earth to PRODIGY, earth to PRODIGY…
          time to wake up.

        • Pillow Hands says:

With steel gloves, steel elbows, steel shoulder (yeah, Jones does use his shoulder more than other fighters!), granite knees, and granite feet!

Don’t get caught up in the Bisping knockout ’cause Jones ain’t no Bisping!

        • Caught up in the Bisping knockout? Im caught up in Hendos career. Funny you mentioned Bisping because he would beat the hell out of Jones too. He would outbox him for 3 rds and put it on him and get a late ko stoppage in the 4th or 5th.

        • Jmad says:

c’mon prodigy, Bisbing would get ragdolled and tko’d. But Hendo has a chance if he can connect. But I still think Jon Jones would take it to the ground and sub him like Mr. Silva did.

        • Pillow Hands says:

Earth to PRODIGY, earth to PRODIGY…haha.lmao

        • phace says:

Bisping? :-D You must dislike Jonny Bones or something. There are fighters who took Hendo’s punch and kept going(without falling or being majorly rocked). Rampage and Anderson Silva(took the punch and said bring it then submitted him)..Jake Sheilds took it and still won. Jones took Machida’s punches pretty well and kind of took Rampage’s punch. However, he’s very good at evading punches. Hendo has a puncher’s chance and I wouldn’t give him more than that against Jones.

        • ricky says:

youre retarded.. hendo barely beat shogun, while jones absolutely tooled him…jones would destroy hendo

        • Lino says:

shogun was rusty as hell – Quinton Jackson

        • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Hendo beat Shogun for 3 rounds out of 5.. Barely? I don’t think so.

        • zach says:

          Prodigy your a fucking idiot

        • CanILive says:

damn, can’t a man have his own opinion? even if it was a troll comment

        • slacker says:

Hey Prodigy. I am curious: who do you think punches harder -Rampage or Hendo? Let’s say they are very close in one KO punch power. If Rampage couldn’t get near Jone’s chin with 2 more inches in reach than Hendo, how do you expect Hendo to do it? His head movement is also less than Rampage’s and he also stands even more flat-footed. I would love to see him do it, but I just can’t see how.

    • rondo says:

kinda like he did against Shields right? This is gonna be a one sided fight!

  9. zach says:

It seems like yall are forgetting that dan is a world class olympic wrestler.. I don’t really see him beating jones, but you guys are making it seem like all he has is a hard right hand, and that’s definitely not the case.

    • Lambo says:

I trained at Team Quest in Temecula last year for 3 months and I assure all the haters, that Dan has more than a right hand. As Zach^^ has mentioned. Can he beat jones?? Odds are against him sure! But Dan is a tough fight for anyone!

  10. Hostile Hunter says:

I dont know what you guys are smoking but Dan isnt going to stand and bang with Bones. Hes going to get his hands on him and slam that Boney bastard, Rough him up and try to cut him. We will see how Bones reacts when he feels blood pouring down his face. The “H bomb” isnt the only thing in Dan’s bag of Tricks. It’s just all you remember because once it lands the fight is over….and do you really think that a man that has never been knocked out is going to get tko’d by “pillow hands” Bones. Maybe sub’d but NEVER K.o.’d

    • Pillow Hands says:

yada yada yada…Same crap was said about: MACHIDA (almost died), RAMPAGE (tapped), SHOGUN (tapped..unofficially, but the WHOLE WORLD saw Shogun tap), BADER (..yawnnnnn) VLADY (almost put a window in his forehead) VERA (I like Brandon, so nothing here…lol) HAMILL (the beginning of the end for Matt..he knows he lost, but, whatever).

Hendo is one of my all-time favorites since Pride. But with Jones around, many LHW fighters should consider changing weight classes ’cause Jones will be around for awhile.

  11. Mike Diaz says:

Basically the UFC is just going to throw every fighter to the wolf that hasn’t fought Bones already this year. Of course it could all end with one punch but Hendo will not close the distance at all. If he tries, he’ll end up worser than Machida! I see Bones tossing him around, gassing him out while he picks him apart piece by piece (similar to Silva vs Maia). Then Hendo will realize the gap in their octagon skills and talk retirement. TEAM PENN!!!!!!

    • Dang! so your saying Hendo will end up worser than Machida!? I totally get it now

      • Matthew Logan says:

No I don’t think you do…… Don’t get me wrong, I love Hendo as a fighter but Jones is just too much right now…… I don’t see anyone in the division being able to take him out right now…. I might be wrong but you gotta admit Jones is a hell of a fighter and he’s young as hell, the kid’s got talent!

        • Chartmonster says:

no you don’t get it bc Hendo is a machine and has the skills to take out bones. it wasn’t that difficult for machida to tag jones, and all Hendo needs is one fkn punch..you’ll see!

        • phace says:

He tagged Jones but didn’t rock him. Do you remember what happened after he tagged him? :-D

        • Phuck phace..the point was it wasn’t difficult for machida to tag jones, and Hendo is faster then machida n will get good clean shots in on jones. That will be enough for the finish.

        • phace says:

Phuck Chartmonster! …. I really don’t think Hendo is faster than Machida(or even Rampage as proven in their fight) nor do I think he can do it in 1 punch(or 2 or 3). Don’t be surprised if Jones puts Hendo to sleep. I understood what you were saying and it’s okay with me to have an opinion. You’re right about one thing though…we’ll definitely see! :-D

  12. Ninjaman says:

Prodigy I am now aware of your vain love for Dan Henderson but please pay attention SON, Henderson and Bisping against Jones would not even the odds a little. Jones is for real and is a force that neither Hendo, Bisping, Rashad, Davis or even Anderson Silva could handle right now. He is very prepared and well trained.

  13. Thetude says:

if i were rashad evens i would choke dana white the fuck out, passed over again, the guy has been waiting for another title shot for 4 years, i know he had injuries but still, and look at evans record, much more impressive than hendo

    • phace says:

Rashad has an outstanding record but Hendo has more wins than Rashad has fights. On the flip side of this I think Rashad would beat Hendo and deserves the title shot more right now. I think Hendo is an all time great but this is just my opinion of how he matches up with certain fighters.

  14. Ninjaman says:

This is a business thetude. Timing is everything. I bet Jones is doing this becasue he knows Rashad will get passed over again. I love it! The kid is smarter then the average bear!

  15. Millerhighlife says:

Laugh my ass of at the Jones vs Rashad rivalry, How many times has Jones fought since than? 3. Rashad has 0, and scheduled his coming back fight so far down the road that Jones’ next fight will be around the same time as it. Is training to lay n pray that hard? Or is Rashad only now finishing up his work with is therapist about his stanky leg dance?

  16. rondo says:

    OK P R O D I G Y…I mean Fortyb45!

  17. GRT 3000 says:

Another victim for the Jones meat-grinder. I love Hendo and think he is a wicked fighter, but that said he won’t beat JBJ. He fought an epic battle with Shogun, one of the best fights ever in fact, but Jones made Shogun look like an amateur. Love Machida too, but he was also disposed of with ease. I do wanna see the fight though, but I think JBJ is too young, too strong, and too talented to be beaten right now. Only Anderson imo could hang with em’.

  18. Lex w says:

    They keep screwing rashad

    • Long-Strong says:

eh… more like he’s screwing himself… title shots are also about timing as well… the ufc doesn’t want to have people wait on the sideline too long

  19. slacker says:

If Dan were to “somehow” win against Jones, at 41, that would go down as one of the greatest MMA victory’s in history, IMO. Personally, I don’t think he can do it; he won’t be able to overcome the reach distance and the shin checks. That being said, I would still love to see that fight. He deserves ths shot, and there is just something special, something “electric” in the air, whenever “Dan the Man” is involved in a big showdown.

  20. Original says:

Hendo has a good chance in the first 2 rounds. Trying to close in the distance and utilize that right hand. He’s really good at circling around and making his opponents move and when he can land that right it can be the end for Jones. But in the later rounds a gassed Hendo can have problems keeping up and Jones will use his reach to pick him apart.

  21. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

If anyone can beat Jones, its Hendo or Rashad because really that’s all that’s left in the lhw division of the upper echelon. Let’s face it, everyone in the UFC has a reach disadvantage to Jones so lets not hold that against Hendo because he has a granite chin, wrestling and a granite fist make up for his disadvantages. His loss to Jake Shields has me worried but he rises to the occasion depending on his competition so, expect a war. Shogun is one million times the opponent that Sheilds is. Jone’s doesn’t get tagged often and if Hendo get’s his hands on him he would be wise not to let go or he might be sleeping next.

    • slacker says:

It’s great that Jones is ready to have a busy fight year. If he and Silva both win their necessary fights, it opens the possibility for an end of year Superfight! But I think Rashad has a good chance to beat Jones. Whoever is going to beat Jones will have to have some strong wrestling. He hasn’t been taken down once yet in the UFC! Unbelievable!

      • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

I know! A striker with a good wrestling or BJJ is what’s needed for him to be defeated. It’s going to be really hard to beat him once he get KO power. That’s something his opponents have a one up on him. If he blows through these opponents I expect him to be fighting Silva next year.

  22. SmoothAssNigga says:

Gustaffson would get it done, he is perfect for bones. The frame and technical strikin would kill Jones but he would have to worry about his wrestlin. I doubt Dana would have em fight Jones tho, unless its the end of the year match up.

Jon takin a Machida left is nothing to brag about, he couldnt hurt my dude ShoGun in 6 rounds. Dan hurt ShoGun with the first an second right he landed. Dan just needs to play it coo, dont rush the right and he will land it. ByE bYe

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

I watched Machida vs Jones again over the weekend and he should have let himself recover before jumping into the fray again. Big mistake on Machida’s part blitzing the fighter with the longest reach while you are trapped against the fence.

  23. slacker says:

Shogun lost that fight because he didn’t use his notorious leg kicks. He wouldn’t make that mistake again. Dan would probably get finished by Jones in the 2nd or first half of the 3rd. Depends how soon Jones takes him down.

Gustaffson – I don’t know enough about him.

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Gustaffson doesn’t want a piece of Jones. He isn’t ready. I think Shogun lost because he was rusty. I looked it up and he was out for a year with his knee injury before he fought Jones. Even If he wasn’t rusty, he might not have beat Jones but he would have done some damage to him. Each champ.he fights he looks more impressive.

      • slacker says:

By the way, my comment about Shogun losing because of not using his leg kicks was actually about his fight with Henderson. I can’t remember his fight well enough with Jones. Plus, I never heard anything about him being hurt at the time of his fight with Jones, so I don’t know what to believe now. Not that it couldn’t be true. I just had no idea about that until I heard people talking about that, I think here, a couple months later.

  24. slacker says:

NinjaOD: Thanks for the link. So yeah. I wonder how much rust he had against Jones. Shogun is one of the greats of all time! I would always give him a second shot at a guy after a loss.
