UFC NEWS – UFC on FX Headliner Melvin Guillard Looking to Make A Statement Against Miller

Explosive UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard (29-9-2, 1NC) returns to headline the inaguaral UFC on FX event this Friday night from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

Guillard’s slated to face top-five lightweight Jim Miller (20-3) in the organization’s first main event on FX and he’s looking to deliver fans a great performance.

“I am looking at making a statement on FX against another top guy in the division,” Guillard today said at UFC on FX open workouts. “He’s one of the best fighters in the world at this weight and it is a great main event.

In preparation for Miller, Guillard trained full-time with the Blackzilians in south Florida under the tutelage of head coach Mike Van Arsdale, striking coach Henri Hooft, and jiu-jitsu coach Flaveus Silva.

While the move wasn’t made specifically to face Miller, Guillard felt it was a wise decision to make coming off difficult loss to Joe Lauzon.

“What happened (to me) last time (first round loss against Joe Lauzon) was a mistake,” Guillard said. “I rushed in so hard and fast I was stunned with a jab and from there I lost the fight. It was kinda dumb, but I am young enough to learn as long as realize the mistake.

“I made the mistake, it didn’t just happen, I know that but I also know I’m still one of the best fighters in the division.”

A veteran of more than 40 professional fights, Guillard now feels that he’s primed for the most well-rounded performance of his successful career.

“But I am ready for this fight with Miller,” Guillard said. “He’s a top guy, maybe the number three or number four in the division, and if I perform like I can do, I think it will be hard for people to say that I didn’t deserve a UFC title shot. I won’t be reckless, but you will see what I can do on FX Friday night.

“You will see the Young Assassin!”

  1. fuck espn says:

    another AJ

  2. Mike says:

No he’s not another Anthony Johnson. This kid has some major talent and is one of the most exciting fighters in the world to watch. Win or lose he comes out every time and puts on a hell of a show. He probably has the most dangerous hands in his division. If you want to compare him to anybody then I would say it would be Chris Leben.
