UFC on Fox 2 Prelim Card Results & Recap | Dunham Blasts Through Lentz In Fifth Preliminary Card Stoppage Win Of The Night
Tonight’s UFC on Fox 2: Evans vs. Davis preliminary card delivered non-stop action in seven different bouts.
UFC on Fox 2 is going down tonight from Chicago’s sold-out United Center. The seven bout preliminary card aired for free on FUEL TV and featured a headlining bout between Evan Dunham and Nik Lentz to prime the audience for the UFC’s main card on FOX TV.
In the opening bout Chris Camozzi was able to endure two tough rounds that likely split the judges’ scorecards to come back strong in the third and submit his opponent with a guillotine choke.
UFC veteran Joey Beltran welcomed Lavar Johnson to the Octagon tonight in a featured heavyweight attraction and unlike any other Beltran bout; he was stopped in the first frame of action after Johnson was able to land repeated upper cuts on the chin of “The Mexicutioner” that sent him faced first to the mat unconscious.
In the third fight of the night TUF veteran Michael Johnson showed off why it pays to be part of the “Blackzilians.” While it was the first decision of the night, Johnson handled business in the first two rounds with superior speed, footwork and takedown defense. The third round was all Roller as the D1 wrestler was able to get the back of Johnson and secure a figure four body lock to maintain position for the majority of the round. It was too little too late though and Johnson walked away with a unanimous decision winning two rounds to one on all three judges’ cards.
In the fourth bout viewers were treated to a fast finishing Oliveira in his UFC featherweight debut against UFC newcomer Eric Wisely. It took all of just one minute and forty-three seconds for the Brazilian fighter to secure a calf slicer submission and force Wisely to tap.
Next up was another featherweight bout between George Roop and Cub Swanson. After a back and forth first round that was likely awarded to Swanson on the judges’ cards, Swanson was able to find his range in the second and land a huge right hand that dropped Roop to the mat where Cub was able to finish with strikes. Referee Big John McCarthy was forced to stop the bout at two-minutes and twenty two seconds, awarding Swanson his first victory since entering the UFC.
In the second and final heavyweight matchup on this card, John-Olav Einemo was unable to find success in his second UFC bout. Chicago’s own, Mike Russow was able to put together a solid game plan which included keeping his Jiu Jitsu black belt opponent on his back for the full 15 minutes. John found moderate success while on the feet in the third frame of action but Russow easily took the decision with 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27 on the judges’ scorecards.
In the final preliminary card bout, Evan Dunham and Nik Lentz went toe to toe and takedown for takedown in the most entertaining bout on tonight’s preliminary card. The two showed well rounded skills on both the feet and on the ground but it was Dunham who was able to land the more significant strikes and damage Lentz face to the point that he could not answer the bell in the third round. Doctors stopped the fight due to a swollen and cut left eye on the face of Lentz and Dunham earned the victory at the end of the second round via Doctor Stoppage.
Now on to the main card on FOX!
