UFC NEWS – UFC Announces Debut Of 125 Pound Flyweight Division: Title Eliminator Tournament Scheduled
As we expected, UFC president, Dana White announced during this evenings UFC 140 post-fight press conference that the first two 125 pound fights have been booked for March third of 2012.
The announcement marks a new era for the UFC and a new weight class giving fighters like Joseph Benavidez and “Might Mouse” Johnson a more suitable division to compete in.
Demetrious Johnson will square off with Ian McCall and Joseph Benavidez will take on Japanese flyweight standout Yasuhiro Urushitani and the winners will face each other for the first ever UFC flyweight title.
March 3 is the date of the yet to be made official UFC on FX 2 fight card. The evenings headliner is expected to be a welterweight bout between Martin Kampmann and Thiago Alves, although at this point in time it is too early to be certain.

What they oughta do is create a 195lb weight class between 185 and 205. Guys like Rich Franklin would be perfect there! IMO he’s a little too big for most guys at 185 and a little small for most guys at 205. And he’s fought at 195 before!
Yeah Franklin fought at 195 and got KO’d by Vitor Belfort in just a few minutes into the fight and then we all see 1000 idiots allover these MMA sites saying how Belforts 195lb fight should have never helped him get a title fight with Silva. Thats total bullshit because it was Franklin who would ONLY take the fight with Belfort at 195. A. Silva is much much bigger than Franklin and Belfort so it makes total sense to have that fight count toward getting a shot at Silva since he took the MW title from Franklin to begin with and when Franklin was still fighting at 185 he basically beat everyone except Silva. I think there needs to be a 225 lb divsion. Fighters like Mike Kyle are forever stucked fighting the Bigfoot Silva’s of MMA.
I can’t believe Dana didn’t give Florian a shot at the 125 lb belt. All Florian would have to do is go find one of those voodoo head shrinkers to lose another 20 lbs. When a fighter like Florian who is naturally 180′s (like on the ultimate fighter) he didn’t have an ounce of fat on him then and yet most of you buy in that he is a natural 145er or 155er, HELLO!!!!! why the hell do you think Florians head looks like its the size of a damn medicine ball? Florian in an effort to fight much much smaller oppenents (like Fitch does) has depleted his body of all muscle and fatt and made himself into a walking-talking human skeletor which is so friggen hard on the internal organs. Florian will pay the price when he’s older and has to wear diapers in his 40′s. Fitch has done the exact same thing to his body. Most people don’t realize Fitch started his MMA career as a LIGHTHEAVYWEIGHT and he didn’t have any fat on him at all and still cut weight to make 205 just as the wrestler he always had. Florians and Fitch’s careers would be over if the athletic commions implemented next day weigh ins which would level the playing field and no longer would these guys be able to have 25lb+ weight advantages at fight time. I cannot friggen wait for the UFC to force Fitch to fight Ellenberger. Same exact outcome as Sheilds fight except Fitch will be released by the UFC.

you guys with the 195 pound, and 215-225 SHOULD have its own division SOOOOOO many light heavy weight fighters would be better at 195 then 205, and then the 225 class helps out the undersized heavyweights but 105, i dunno thats a lil low, they’d have to be kids or something i think 125 is the lowest they’ll go maybe 115 for the womens when they get it thats about it
and if kenny drops down to 125 i think he should be kicked out of the UFC for being an idiot, your a gatekeeper, not a title-holder your very talented ken-flo, and ur an awesome person, but man keep ur head
