UFC NEWS – UFC 143's Fabricio Werdum Looking To Finish Roy Nelson

“There’s no easy fight anymore. Everybody knows a little bit of everything: Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Boxing, and Muay Thai. It’s a different time we’re living in. Nelson knocked Cro Cop out, he has a very strong right hand, sharp Boxing, but I’ll impose my rhythm and play by my game plan until I tire him out. Knocking out or submitting, I want to make it a good show. I analyzed Nelson when I signed with UFC; I watched his fights and observed his stand-up. He’s a heavy guy, so I’m excited about fighting guys like him and I’m training with guys like him on top of me so I get used to it. I’ll impose my rhythm. It’s hard to knock him out, but anything can happen. If I find a loop, I’ll try to finish him. I was watching Rodrigo Nogueira VS. Frank Mir and I’ve learned that, when the opportunity presents itself, you gotta knockout or submit. The important thing is to have your arm raised at the end of the fight.”

Newly signed UFC heavyweight fighter, Fabricio Werdum, tells Brazilian media outlet, Tatame.com that he plans on finishing Roy Nelson in their UFC 143 clash of heavyweights.

Returning to the UFC for the first time since his knockout loss to Junior Dos Santos, a win over Roy Nelson would prove to his doubters that he belongs in discussion amongst the world’s best.

After a Strikeforce stint that saw him dethrone “The Last Emperor” and take out a “Bigfoot” Werdum is now back on the big stage as one of the latest Strikeforce stars acquired by the UFC post ZUFFA acquisition.

Will he be able to do as he says and take it to “The Ultimate Fighter” winner or will he fail at making an impact in his return to the Octagon?

Thoughts?

  1. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

    Roy is knocking you out!

    • dlee says:

I find that hard to believe… Roys not going to be able to to pull out his salverry arm trap with pillow punches until the ref calls it. Werdum’s not kimbo or crocop.

      • Jujitsu Player says:

I agree his trademark crucifix wont work but I still give him the edge in the stand up. I think Roy has better hands than Werdum and good enough BJJ not to get subbed.

  2. Brandon says:

lol i hope so ninja well see roy ftw

  3. rondo says:

JDS couldn’t finish Roy,I doubt Werdum will.

  4. E says:

Roy’s weight issues have nothing to do with his Cardio or fighting. He’s a highly trained badass that is almost impossible to Knock out. He beat A LOT of really talented people to win TUF and has proved himself in the cage. Werdum cannot stand and bang with Roy PERIOD. Werdum is amazing at jits, but Roy can handle his own as well and I don’t see him trying to get in a grappling match. He will win by TKO/KO or decision guaranteed.
