UFC NEWS – UFC 143: Stumpf Out With Injury, Thompson In As Replacement Against Edwards

An undisclosed training injury has forced Mike Stumpf out of his scheduled UFC 143 bout with Justin Edwards and in his place comes Stephen Thompson.
The UFC took to twitter yesterday evening with the news.
UFC 143 is set to take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Super Bowl weekend. Georges St. Pierre was originally scheduled to headline the event against the newest title challenger Nick Diaz, however an injury forced him off the card and Diaz will now face Carlos Condit for the UFC’s interim welterweight title.
Edwards, a TUF 13 cast member is coming off of his second UFC defeat against John Maquire at UFC 138. The loss makes him 1-2 in the promotion with his lone victory coming against Jorge Lopez. His UFC 138 defeat was a last-minute booking and allows for some minor breathing room as he heads into this next fight.
Thompson will make his UFC debut on just three weeks-notice. He is a decorated amateur kickboxer who has a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu background under Carlos Machado. He is undefeated on the regional MMA circuit and holds three stoppage victories.
The UFC 143 now looks as follows:
MAIN CARD: (Pay-per-view)
Carlos Condit vs. Nick Diaz (for interim welterweight title)
Roy Nelson vs. Fabricio Werdum
Josh Koscheck vs. Mike Pierce
Renan Barao vs. Scott Jorgensen

PRELIMINARY CARD: (FX)
