UFC NEWS – UFC 142’s Sam Stout Doubts His Opponent Will Stand With Him

[box_light]
“Look, if he gets me to my back, I’m not going to just lay there. He’s going to have to work his ass off to keep me down. I don’t think he’ll want to stand with me, that’s for sure.”
“Being down here in Rio has been great. It’s humid and it’s been great for helping me cut the weight. I’ve been taking great jogs and enjoying everything down here.”
“Shawn [Tompkins] gave me all the tools, I’ve just got to go out there and execute. I’ll have Mark Hominick in my corner on fight night and we’ll go out there and try to make Shawn proud. I’m here in Rio focused fully on the fight. I’m focused on going out there and using the tools that Shawn gave me over the years. He was such a great mentor and I was blessed to have him in my life. I realize that, so my mind is in a good spot.”

Rising UFC lightweight fighter, Sam Stout, talks about his upcoming UFC 142 fight with Jiu Jitsu ace Thiago Tavares.
Known as a polished standup fighter with excellent technique, this Saturday’s fight marks the first for Sam without his legendary coach, Shawn Tompkins, in his corner.
Tompkins was found dead in his hotel room in 2011.
With much to prove and in an attempt to honor his coach and team leader, will Stout be able to put aside emotion and go beat the Brazilian in Rio or will he fall victim to the crowd and the pressure and taste defeat similarly to his teammate Mark Hominick in Mark’s last Octagon appearance?
