UFC NEWS – UFC 141 Prelim Special On Spike Gets Njokuani-Nijem & Assuncao-Pearson
It is the end of an era ladies and gentleman.
The final UFC on Spike Prelim Special is set to air on Dec. 30 and it will feature a lightweight bout in the form of Ramsey Nijem vs. Anthony Njokuani and a featherweight bout between Junior Assuncao and Ross Pearson.
In 2012 all UFC preliminary card programming will be moved to FOX affiliate FUEL TV.
UFC 141 is set to take place on Dec. 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The end-of-year pay-per-view event will feature a five-round non-title fight between former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and newly signed heavyweight stand-out Alistair Overeem.
The two fight television special will precede the UFC 141 pay-per-view broadcast and will air live to a national audience at 8:00 p.m. ET.
Nijem is coming off of his first post Ultimate Fighter victory in a bout against Danny Downes he took via unanimous decision at this past month’s UFC 137. The runner up of The Ultimate Fighter Season 13, his first official outing in the UFC was a failure against show winner Tony Ferguson.
Njokuani is one of many WEC imports into the UFC’s lightweight division, the striking based fighter made his UFC debut with a very highly contested bout against Edson Barboza at UFC 128. He ended up losing the fight but recently bounced back with a crushing one sided decision victory over Andre Winner at UFC 132.
Assuncao who is now set to face off with Pearson is currently riding a seven-fight win streak. He was last seen in action at UFC 135 where he took out Eddie Yagin via unanimous decision.
Pearson is taking a leap of faith in this newly scheduled contest. “The Ultimate Fighter” season 9 winner is making his first trip down to featherweight in hopes to reignite his career with the UFC. He went 1-2 in his last three outings with his most recent performance coming way of a decision loss to Edson Barboza at UFC 134.
The remaining preliminary card bouts are expected to stream live for free on facebook.com.
