UFC NEWS – UFC 140 Medical Suspensions Report


All fighters from the Dec. 10 UFC 140 event received medical suspensions of at least 14 days for precautionary reasons.

The Ontario Ministry of Consumer Services released the report this afternoon.

UFC 140 took place this evening from the Air Canada Center in Toronto, Canada and was headlined was headlined by a light-heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida.

The most severe suspension was handed down to co-main event participant, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for his part in the evening’s main card. As seen by many onlookers he was submitted and received a broken arm. While the report lists just a 60 day suspension, in order to obtain a license to fight he must receive clearance from an orthopedic surgeon which we are told will take about nine-months.

The rest of the UFC 140 suspensions are as follows:

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira: Suspended 60 days due to submission loss; needs clearance from orthopedic surgeon
Tito Ortiz: Suspended 60 days due to TKO loss; needs chest X-ray and abdominal ultrasound
Mark Hominick: Suspended 60 days due to TKO loss; needs MRI or CT scan
Krzysztof Soszynski: Suspended 60 days due to knockout loss; needs MRI or CT scan
Jared Hamman: Suspended 60 days due to knockout loss; needs MRI or CT scan
Rich Attonito: Suspended 60 days due to TKO loss; needs MRI or CT scan
Mitch Clarke: Suspended 60 days due to TKO loss; needs MRI or CT scan
Lyoto Machida: Suspended 30 days for cut over right eye
Jon Jones: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
Frank Mir: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
Brian Ebersole: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
Claude Patrick: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
Chan Sung Jung: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
Igor Pokrajac: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
Constantinos Philippou: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
Dennis Hallman: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
John Makdessi: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
Walel Watson: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
Yves Jabouin: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
Mark Bocek: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
Nik Lentz: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
Jake Hecht: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
John Cholish: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons

    I would have thought that some of the fighters who were almost knocked out should get treated similarly to the ones who actually got KOed.
    Mir and Machida appeared to have been hurt with strikes to the head before the end of their fights.
    Overall, I think the UFC does a great job looking after the fighters medically.

    Pretty much everyone is suspended for 2 weeks just for precautionary reasons. Lol it’s going to be a hell of a lot longer than 60 days for Nog.

    imo Big Nog is far from done. He looked really good in the Mir fight. Lets just hope he doesn’t try and get another rematch with Mir lol
