UFC NEWS – UFC 139’s Urijah Faber earns trilogy fight with Dominick Cruz after dominant victory over Bowles

After a dominant second round submission victory over Brian Bowles, Urijah Faber set himself up for another shot at the bantamweight championship.
Faber and Bowles fought as part of the main card for UFC 139, which took place from HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. on pay-per-view.
The first round of action saw both Faber (26-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and Bowles (10-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) trade strikes on the feet until “The California Kid” hit a big takedown and followed with ground and pound as the opening five-minutes came to an end.
However, it didn’t take long in the second round for Faber to find his groove as he landed a devastating right uppercut that signaled the end for Bowles.
Faber followed a badly hurt Bowles to the canvas where he nailed the former bantamweight champion with heavy punches and elbows from top position.
The barrage of strikes from Faber provided the opening he needed to secure the fight ending submission (guillotine choke).
The submission victory earns Faber a highly anticipated trilogy bout with rival and bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz in 2012.

Hell ya
I guess “Favorism”, or whatever the hell some of these guys have found it necessary to call him, really does deserve the title shot, huh? LMFAO! Hope he puts it on the best points fighter in the division and takes the belt back!
Cruz has some of the best boxing and footwork. But, Faber has more power though. Cruz ain’t going anywhere.
Faber demolished Bowles and made him look slow and tentative. Good fight though.
Did he ever?! Bowles was outclassed n had no shot. He made it competitive for a quick second though
It was my first time watching Bowles. Idk how he became champ with his slow hands.
His wrestling and KO power was usually a factor but Faber showed that he’s not good enough to hang with the best of the BW fighters
Poster boy, dana wants this guy as champion so bad lol
love these guys but I’ll go for Cruz again, style is too fly
Calling another guy is definitely pushing toward faggotry…
Calling another guy fly, that is…
You sound mad that he beat out the fighter from one of your gay fantasies. If he’s beating the top contenders in the division, why shouldn’t he be fighting for the title?
I am disappointed in Bowels. Was expecting more from him.
I thought he would bring more too. I am happy with the outcome though. Hope Urijah takes Cruz third time round.
HUGE faber fan so happy he won this fight. to all the clowns who think he dosent deserve a shot who does!? seriously he finished cruz in their first one and could have got the decision in the second one everybody else has been dominated by Cruz except Urijah. Plus whats the point of seeing Faber smash everyone else when hes clearly title shot worthy. i hope him and cruz coach next season of TUF Urijah is down for it.
I will say any day im a big fan of Fabor, and that he does seem to get title shots due to a bit of being a major draw, but also IMO is the 1-3rd best in the division so he deserves it. And definitely showed it tonight, i like Bowes and thought it was going to be a war, And Urijah just dominated him.. I thought the 2nd fight with Cruz could have went either way.. And i think Urjiah is going to take it this next time around, i think he showed much faster hands, still retained his power and proved he still has prolly the best guillotine choke in the division.
