UFC NEWS – Shogun Back To Training; Expects Tough Challenge In Return To Octagon

“The expectations are good and I’m already training. I hope I get better soon so I can fight for my fans, family and team. Actually, now I’m taking it slow, just training. I don’t know when I’m fighting. Next week I might make some deal, but for now I don’t know anything about it, so I’m taking it easy. When I know it for sure, I can set a plan and work on it. This is the most disputed weight class, and I don’t have an opponent yet because it’s too messy right now. I guess Dan Henderson is getting a title shot and I have no idea of who I’m fighting against. I want to get ready for my next fight. I’m sure it’ll be a tough guy because there’re only tough guys on the division. I’ll keep training to fight the best.”
Former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, tells Brazilian media outlet, Tatame.com that he is back in training and waiting for his next opponent.
After a tough fought loss at the hands of Dan Henderson, Shogun is coming off arguably one of the best fights in Mixed Martial Arts history. In the fight he proved that he can weather any storm to comeback and steal rounds, but it wasn’t enough.
Now having gone 1-2 in his last three fights which includes a loss of his title to Jon Jones, Shogun faces a slippery slope back to the top. Many want to see the Jones vs. Shogun rematch, but before that can happen he needs to perform well in his next few fights.
Who should the UFC match him up against?

Legend.
He should fight Thiago Silva or Alexander Gustaffson for his next fight
I say give him the loser of rashad vs davis !
I like that.
Good choices….. In addition, I don’t think I want to see him fight (or get beatdown by) Jonny Bones again. He matches up better with others in the weight class. Rampage, Machida, Hendo, the above mentioned, or Rashad Evans.
Give him someone easy. He’s 1-2 and got battered his last two fights. I say, let him retire Tito.
excellent choice, shogun vs tito, or shogun vs hendo 2
no way hes good enough for top 5 fight he after all is top 5 in lhw
yeah that made sense.
lol
i say either Gustaffson or machida would be good fights. see him try to get to the top again
I smell Machida vs Shogun III…
I think that fight makes a lot of sense right now. Both are at about the same place in the division right now, and neither are scheduled yet.
Shogun has Machida figured out and would end the Machida hype train in the process. They should not fight again.
No need for Shogun to beat him for a third time. We already know who the better man is..
But with Machida fighting the way he is right now you know, knocking out randy and tagging jon jones. Could be a possibility…
the winner of rashad vs davis or lil nog… their first fight was epic
winner of that fight gets Jones…
hopefully Bader pulls out, and Shogun fills in for him at Japan vs Rampage.
i dont know if anyone would disagree with how ****ING AWESOME THAT WOULD BE.
I second this awesome idea
I THIRD that! … or is it FOURTH that?!?!
when is the japan card, i think shogun will still be on med suspension
I think in February or March. He won’t be ready by then to do anything.
BADER!! NO ONE WANTS TO SEE YOU FIGHT RAMPAGE. DROP OUT AND LET SHOGUN FIGHT!
I thought he was going to be suspended for 6 months like Hendo? They really beat the shit out of each other! Either way I’m ready for Shogun to be back in the winner circle without retiring anyone at 205. It seems like most of the upper tier of the division is tied up…. 205 needs new blood Dana! Lil Nog or Stephan Bonner? Both are coming off of impressive wins.
Hope shogun gets his groove back! The new breed of fighters are taking over boys.. Edgar.. Aldo..Chael..ellenberger..Condit..jones..Bendo ..Reem!
WIth Rampage out due to knee injury, Id like to see Shogun vs Bader
they better not give him Thiago then!
