UFC NEWS – Semerzier Disputing Controversial Stoppage Loss In UFC on FOX 1 Preliminary Bout

If you didn’t see it necessary to watch the internet stream of the UFC on Fox 1 preliminary card this past weekend than you missed a very controversial stoppage in the fight between Mackens Semerzier and Robert Peralta.
The two bantamweight fighters went back and forth throughout the majority of the fight, with an edge conceivably given to Mackens for his efforts. That is until in a violent exchange of punches sent Semerzier down and we all watched his opponent Peralta capitalize with a flurry of ground strikes to earn the stoppage victory in the third frame of action.
A replay on the big screens of that last flurried exchange of stand up action showed that it was not a punch that dropped Mackens to the canvas as originally thought, but am illegal head butt. While unintentional, head butts in Mixed Martial Arts are illegal and as a result, had the referee, in this case Big John McCarthy, noticed the infraction the bout would have still been stopped short, but it would have gone to the judges’ scorecards for a decision announcement.
Today Brian Butler of Suckerpunch Entertainment, the manager of Semerzier, announced via his official twitter account that they plan on disputing the stoppage with the commission in order to get the loss overturned into a no-contest.
As far as Mackens is concerned, he is not only seeking his defeat overturned, but he would also like the opportunity to settle the score with Peralta in the form on an immediate rematch.
Now that all the dust has settled, it will be a shocker if the commission does not overturn the defeat, at the same time, I would also be surprised if the UFC does not book the rematch for the two fighters to determine a true winner.
Big John McCarthy admitted the error in his call and even went as far as offering testimony in a possible future hearing on the case in support of Mackens.

-]. It’s really unlucky, I feel sorry for that guy .[-
Well Big John is going to support that. It really shouldn’t be a problem to overturn it.
it was a serious clash of heads.
In all fairness, it was very hard to notice. So no blame on Big John. And Peralta looked like the elephantman with that big lump on his forehead.
It was unintentional, but definitely not a legit KO.
WHY DOESN’T THE UFC HAVE THE REF REVIEW THE ACTION LIKE THEY DO IN THE NFL. so much of this bullshit could be avoided if the ufc refs had more tools to use.
UFC SUCKS!!! This does not happen in my backyard!
watch him Ko peralta with a head butt in the rematch
if it wasn’t a legitimate sports lost then it should be changed to a NC. its good that despite fighting there’s a fairness involved as well.
