UFC NEWS – Rumor: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez In The Works

A welterweight bout between Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez has long been rumored to be in the works for an unnamed UFC event set for the first quarter of 2012.
While we have remained silent on the rumor, it has as of late, picked up some more steam and all signs point to this clash getting put together and signed.
While no host event has been included with the rumblings behind the scenes, I have been told by a reliable source that if the deal gets done the fight will likely take place on the second UFC on FOX card as part of the evening’s main card.
Neither fighter will confirm with BJPENN.COM if the fight is a done deal.
Jake Ellenberger was last seen dispatching Jake Shields in devastating fashion during their “UFC Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou – Shields vs. Ellenberger” main event his past September. The win put a stamp on his dominance since entering the UFC and gave him his fifth straight victory. Jake’s lone UFC loss came at the hands of Carlos Condit, via split decision, in his Octagon debut.
After dropping back to back fights to BJ Penn and John Hathaway, Diego Sanchez has found some recent success back in the UFC’s welterweight division. Coming off of two straight victories against top welterweight prospects, Martin Kampmann and Paulo Thiago a win over Ellenberger would speak volumes for his progression as a mixed martial artist. Sanchez is 6-2 in his last eight UFC bouts.
Again, this is just a rumor at the moment; if and when it becomes official we will give an update.

Ellebberger is gonna smash The dream. Hes gonna be fredy kruger to diego when whoopim that ass. Ellenbergeris smashing anyway in his way to that title shot than whooping on grease safe pierre.
Ellenberger**
Wow, Diego better be on his A-game just to survive. I don’t see him winning a single round in this fight, and why is Ellenberger fighting Sanchez anyways? Almost seems like a step backwards. I know Sanchez is coming off two wins, but we all know that Kampmann decision was bogus. Regardless, I really don’t see this ending in a positive manner for Diego. He may wanna reconsider lw…
I am shocked that there are a lot of Jake fans out there. I have been a Sanchez fan since King of the Cage. I think He’s got what it takes to Decision Jake. Jake is a machine no doubt and a definite contender but Sanchez has been putting in work and is do. I think that Kampmann decision was bogus as well….but I believe this dude is getting back on track and getting the power and cardio he used to have at 170 again…I believe in the dream.
I’m a bigger fan of Diego than I am of Jake, because I’ve followed Diego much longer, and like how he goes hard everytime he steps up to fight. That being said, I’m just keeping it real. I don’t think he has what it takes to get a win off of Ellenberger.
I’m not taking anything away from Jake as a fighter. I’ve seen it all and he’s close to great if not great but I feel his head’s blown up just a little after that ko win over Shields. If anyone can test him at this point it is Diego. Sure Diego hasn’t looked too impressive lately but Jake better not let it become a brawl. He definitely possesses the tools to beat Diego but I don’t see him winning decisively. In other words I don’t see him dominating Diego.
“The Dream” better have a good Greg Jackson game plan because Jack is better in all areas. In my mind i dont see Diego making it the full 15. Knockout or GnP tko ..
Beating Diego by knockout will hopefully get him another shot against Condit. I still say he is 3-4 fights away from a title shot.
rooting for Ellenberger! guy’s been backing up his talk lately.
Sanchez might be a bad match up for him.Deigo has a ton of heart, good hands and good wrestling, and hes crazy……. should be a good fight
