UFC NEWS – Roy Nelson vs. Cheick Kongo In The Works For UFC 143

A heavyweight bout that is sure to deliver fireworks is expected to go down next year at UFC 143.

The relentless Roy Nelson and the hard hitting Cheick Kongo have reportedly accepted offers to face one another in February of 2012 in a bout that will get the winner one step closer to an eventual title shot.

UFC 143 is expected to take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Super Bowl weekend. Georges St. Pierre will be the headliner against his newest title challenger Nick Diaz.

Roy Nelson recently snapped his two fight losing streak when he sent Mirko Cro Cop into retirement with a third round TKO stoppage at last month’s UFC 137 event. Prior to the victory he had fallen short against the likes of Junior Dos Santos and Frank Mir consecutively.

Kongo on the other hand has not tasted defeat since 2009 and is riding high on a five fight unbeaten streak. Having most recently fought and beaten Matt Mitrione at UFC 137, he is looking to fight whoever will get him back in contention for the UFC’s heavyweight title.

  1. Matt Brynes says:

    This is gonna be great!

  2. bulgemaster says:

I think that Roy can put Kongo to sleep. Should be good though hopefully Kongo won’t put on another snoozefest like against Mitrione haha

  3. The Ansir says:

The way Nelson slimmed down for Cro Cop he may not have his belly at all by the Kongo fight.

  4. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

If I had money… Which I don’t. I would bet that Kongo wins this by decision.

  5. Mike Diaz says:

I just don’t see how this fight will benefit Kongo. Since when has Big Country been the gatekeeper for the HW title? Country vs Bary would have made more sense to me or is it because Country’s name is bigger than Bary’s? Still, two consecutive losses ( with much respect to the beasts he lost to) and to square him against someone who is seriously knocking on the title door! Oh well, a slugfest is in store for sure…….TEAM PENN!!!!!!

  6. Jujitsu Player says:

    Big Country will expose Congo…..

  7. Chris says:

    Big Country by submission perhaps?
