UFC NEWS – Poll Results: Which Upcoming UFC Main Event Are You Most Looking Forward to?
In our latest polling here at BJPENN.COM we asked our readers which upcoming main event you are most looking forward to.
With the UFC booking more shows than ever it’s sometimes hard to keep track of all the fights we have coming up. Pay-per-views, FUEL TV, FX and FOX are all a part of the UFC’s ever growing expansion and with that some of the best fights ever are scheduled for the upcoming months.
This is exactly why we wanted to know which fight, particularly, main event, you guys are most looking forward to watching.
After 2,781 votes were cast on our weekly poll, the fight the majority of you are most looking forward to is UFC 143’s Georges St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz. This fight in particular took the majority of the vote with 1,265 (45.5%). This proves, at least in theory, that the UFC is correct with their claims of GSP being their biggest draw.
Rounding out second place is none other than this month’s UFC 141 main event between former champion, Brock Lesnar and newly signed UFC heavyweight, Alistair Overeem. The gargantuan main event took in 23.1% of fan votes (642 votes).
In third place, next weekend’s Jones vs. Machida took in 16.3% of the votes (452 votes) and Frankie Edgar vs. Benson Henderson came in at fourth with 8.3% (231 votes).
Tomorrow night’s main event between Michael Bisping and Jason Miller earned the fifth spot with 5.0% (138 votes), Aldo vs. Mendes cane in sixth with a meager 0.8% (23 votes), Guillard vs. Miller came in seventh with 0.6% (17 votes) and lastly, Melendez vs. Masvidal (Strikeforce) round out last place with 0.5% (13 votes).
All the fights listed are excellent matchups that I am sure everyone will enjoy, but when push comes to shove, the epic welterweight bout between GSP and Nick Diaz is the most anticipated bout in the upcoming months, and with good reason. Between the unpredictable antics of Nick Diaz and the dominating style of the champion, George St. Pierre, if your budget would only allow for one pay-per-view purchase, this would have to be it.

The reason the UFC gets my money when GSP fights is not in support of the best gay & pray fighter in the WW division but because I want to be tuned in when Gonna Score Points gets dethroned. I wonder if anyone else watches him for the same reason or are the majority of his fans sold out on GSP from his fighting style to his persona as an overall human being. Many people watch GSP because of his physique and they have goals of wanting to look like that themselves. So they idolize that about him. I think that is one reason why people watch. I think that’s part of why he has so many fans. But good chance he got his physique by using steriods and/or other performance enhancing drugs. He probably has best and most ripped physique in mma.
I almost never buy GSP fights because they are typically boring fights. I want to see this one because if Nick Diaz is going to fight I want to watch. Win or Lose you know what you are getting, just like BJ Penn, and for me Machida. Fans, like myself, want to see two athletes lay it on the line and scrap- if that scrap hits the ground, that’ss fine if they stay active. In my opinion if the fight goes to the ground and you have the dominate position (even from inside guard) that is the time to go for the finish, not just a chance to waste some time while scoring points.
I agree, I’ve been disappointed that he doesn’t try to take more risks to finish. But I guess that’s his way.

I will slightly now agree that the physique may help a bit considering he models for underarmour and has these top selling fitness videos. A combination of all those things make him a bigger attraction to the world. I can understand that and I partially take back my comment above.
Thanks for saying that. That’s exactly what I mean! And it sells ppv’s! What I’m talking about is an image thing. That’s my point. It’s part of the “fighter persona”. Being a great fighter but also looking a certain way. A lot of new fans see him and say, “I like that guy” simply on looks (and some of his longtime fans too). Because GSP is in great shape.

It also doesn’t mean he played by the rules. Asking questions when something is in doubt is a good thing. By asking the question “Did GSP grease?” we are not necessarily assuming one way or the other, hence the fact it is a question and not a statement.

You can’t make the assumption that everyone wants to see him win. He’s the most popular because lots of people want to see him win, and conversely lots of people want to see him lose. It’s hard to beat a fighter like that considering ppv sales.
