UFC NEWS – Poll Results: Who Will Be The UFC Light-Heavyweight Champ in 2012?

In our inaugural polling here at BJPENN.COM we asked our readers who you thought would be the UFC’s 205 pound champion in the coming year.
With the main event between “Shogun” Rua and Dan Henderson going down this weekend and a title fight between Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida in just a few weeks, the division’s landscape has never looked more promising than right now.
Pivotal matchups are upon us that will shape the divisions future and it’s a literal gauntlet of killers who are ready to take each other out given the opportunity.
We have now closed the polls, the votes have been counted and your voices heard. The fan favorite to hold the belt is none other than current champion Jon Jones.
Jon Jones reigns over the UFC’s light-heavyweight division and is currently ranked as the BJPENN.COM number-one 205 pound fighter in the world. His displays of violence are so unmatched that many call him the future of the sport. He has been able to easily take out legends such as Rua and Rampage to cement himself as the undisputed king at light-heavyweight.
After 2,378 votes on our poll, 1,233 of you chose the champ to continue his dominance through the 2012 season. That’s a staggering 51.9% for Jon “Bones Jones.
In second place came Lyoto Machida with 24.3% of the vote, Dan Henderson came in third with 17.2% and apparently, Shogun’s prior defeat against the champ weighs heavily on the confidence of MMA fans as he came in with just 157 votes for 6.6%.

With all the JBJ haters on here, how did he get so many votes? Must be a lot of closet fans, just hating to hate, but when it comes to it, they know the deal
I’d say they voted with their heads instead of their hearts. There’s a lot of GSP and Anderson Silva haters too. But, is it prudent to bet against them?
I dig what you’re saying. It’s just funny to know that some of the same people who have been making lame excuses as to why he’s won fights, or have called him overhyped are some of the same people who had to have voted for him.
Well it’s hard to tell. I don’t like Jon Jones but even his most ardent hater know he has some skill and advantages over the other lhw, mainly being his reach. Up until last week people were hyping Cain Valasquez like he was the best hw ever to grace the UFC and now his hype has died. Some people are hyping Jon Jones as the next Anderson Silva or the Michael Jordan of MMA but he has only defended his title once and it is a little early to give him that title. Two types of fighters can destroy Jones. A pinpoint technical striker, someone with strong leg strikes (someone proficient in Muay Thai) or an extremely good wrestler to neutralize his arm length.
That extremely good wrestler better be more than just that because he’s a pretty good wrestler himself. The pinpoint striker, better have long limbs himself so he can at least get within range, and he also better be a helluva wrestler too because if Jones were to start getting outstruck, I think he’d fall back on his extremely good wrestling and takedowns to get the fight into his comfort zone. I can see his weakness being strong leg kicks, though
Seems about right! I hope the dragon is well trained because Bones is a handful for anyone! I see RD1 TKO and still the UFC LH Champ Bones jones!
48.1% of people must be smoking crack…..can’t see anyone coming close to beating JBJ.
as much as i want to see someone dethrone him, bones is staying champ for a while.
I must concur
…but not about the wanting to see him lose part
I agree. The kid still has some growing up to do, but his talent can’t be denied. As far as his next few matches go:
Lyota is patient, but doesn’t counter well enough to get in on Jones. Rashad doesnt have the chin take the punches before he gets to Jones. Hendo doesn’t have the footwork and will be spending the whole fight throwing his overhand right. Just my opinion.
I think you are selling Hendo a little short. But
I think Hendo and Rashad have the best chance.
Its you that’s on crack homey if u think Dan can’t handle Bones.. I got Hendo taking Bones out and Rashad has a good chance too. I’d put my money on both Hendo and Rashad to take out Bones.. especially Hendo… y’all is SLEEPING on Hendo.
The only thing I dislike about UFC is that there are so few fighters. I mean, I understand that it’s hard to have a lot of fighters because there isn’t enough showtime for each of them to really fight, but I don’t believe people are being shown what we’re being TOLD we’re being shown. What I mean by that is, people over-value these fighters and their skills. Don’t get me wrong, these guys are insanely good fighters, but seeing as how there are now seven billion people on Earth, I don’t think we’re being shown the best fighters in the world at all. Simply the best fighters allowed on the air at any given period of time. The UFC needs to add hundreds of new guys and then after ten or fifteen fights we’ll see more of an actual sample of who’s who. I mean, light heavyweight roster is of, what, ten guys? There should be hundreds of them to choose from, honestly.
you get exactly what you’re talking about if you watch more than just the ufc.
if you’re good enough, 95% of the time you’re being picked up by the ufc.
UFC only keeps the cream of the crop and those who rake in a lot of money. There’s some talent in Belator and Strikeforce but for the most part the best talent is in the UFC. If those organizations had better competition than the UFC and better fighters, their fighters would be ranked higher on this website.
Jones is a safe bet, but behold a sleeper cell is waiting to take it from him!
Wow….what a surprise!
Just watch ,In fact there is a fighter from Afghanistan coming he has trained thousands of fighters in the art of . video propaganda he has masted such moves as the monkey bar and line karate. He will end up holding Multiple belts in several weight classes from WW, MD AND LHW, He will also be the new face of the ufc video games and spokes perdition . 2012-2025 year of the turban.
I think the only person with even a chance is Rashad. A small chance but still a chance. and even then he would have to have the fight of his life.
I’d say Phil Davis will earn a shot and give JBJ a good run..
I could see Davis being a future threat, but only if his striking improves some more. I just don’t think it’s good enough right now, but then again, I’m no expert
Nobody here is.
Wasnt even a real poll it didnt have the clear cut guys who have the best chance to take his belt (Rashad, Perosh, and Gustaffson)
Why the hell wasn’t Rashad on the poll?
Jones gets beat by Evans. And if not, then Sonnen will go up and school this kid.
lmao
LOL… Sonnen’s got nothing for JBJ, it would ba a massacre!
He’s just got the BEST wrestling in ALL of mma, bar none.
JBJ would rag doll Chael!!… don’t be silly.
There is No Way that would happen. jbj is too undisciplined to accomplish that. That bitch literally turned his back and RAN from Rampage. Sonnen would retire rampage. The only possibility would be how good Sonnen’s gas tank is at 205. If he doesn’t lose anything with an extra 20 then he would school jbj. He may not win, but he would school him
On a side note: I know it is very hard for most of the posters on this site to actually understand what a top wrestler can do because they have never wrestled. I would say for any of the people on this site who does any training to forget all this fag m=arts crap like tkd and kempo and all these other bullshit techniques and go wrestle with top elite wrestlers and do boxing, then you will know what real fighting is about and until then your opinions are not worth the pixel space.
Well holy shit balls if we don’t have ourselves a super keyboard warrior who’s knowledge of MMA far surpasses anyone else’s here on BJPENN.com. You have no clue of what experience or knowledge anyone your interacting with here has so shut you’re wang hole there mister… JBJ would absolutely kill Sonnen in every aspect of the fight game… PERIOD.
A poll without Evans? Clearly leaving out one of the premier LHW’s in the world..
Exactly, Evan’s is the best and if he ever faces Machida again, he will ktfo within a minute of round 1
