UFC NEWS – Poll Results: What is the greatest fight in UFC history?

In our latest polling here at BJPENN.COM we asked our readers what fight you thought was the greatest ever in UFC history.
With so many analysts, fighters and fans proclaiming that last weekend’s UFC 139 five-round war between Dan Henderson and “Shogun” Rua earned the prize, we took to our polls to see what our readers thought.
It is hard to pin down just one fight as the absolute best in UFC history. There have been so many epic wars that deserve credit. Fight’s like Guida vs. Sanchez, Big Nog vs. Couture, and Gracie vs. Leopoldo are all worthy options when considering the best.
However, for the sake of our poll we chose some notable standout fights that are widely considered by many to be the best of the best.
So what is the best fight in UFC history? Apparently, according to our readers it’s what many viewers of last weekend’s pay-per-view main event thought all along.
With the polls closed, and the 5,311 votes tallied, the clear winner with 57.5% (3,052 votes) of the vote goes to the aforementioned UFC 139 main event between Dan Henderson and “Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar came in second place on our poll with 1,057 votes (19.9%), Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen came in right behind them in third with 671 votes (12.6%), Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva took fourth with 381 votes (7.2%), Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock came in fifth position with 84 votes (1.6%) and Randy Couture vs. Pedro Rizzo came in sixth place with 66 votes (1.2%).
Interestingly enough, 502 votes where cast for our “other” category and voters left their opinions in our comments section as to who they think put on the best performance in history. Fights like Nick Diaz vs. Karo Parisyan, Roger Huerta vs. Leonard Garcia, Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva and Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin where all popular options listed by our voters who chose “other”.
However, based on the feedback we received and with all voters having the option to list their own fight’s as best, the top earner and best fight in UFC history based on fan votes is without a doubt “Hendo vs. Shogun”.
Thank you everyone who participated!

where’s Phan-garcia? garcia-the korean zombie
That fight went 2 hard
That was WEC not Ufc..
Phan/Garcia I and II were both UFC, Garcia/Korean Zombie II was UFC. Phan never even fought in the wec.
No. They were both UFC fights… But far from being in the “greatest fight” mix. I am sure if more people were fans back when the Couture vs. Rizzo fight took place that it would give the Shogun/Hendo fight a run for the money. They were both bloody wars.
think people need 2 watch the forrest bonner fight again
Lol
As fans we sure got to watch alot of great fights, looking forward to watching many more!
Liddell and Wanderlei was one of the best too.
thats the one i voted for. i cant believe chael vs anderson beat that, all chael did was try to dry hump silva the whole time.
only an anderson nut-hugger would say something so stupid. chael beat the sh*t out of andyboy for 23 minutes. there was no dry humping. there was no lay n pray. u had pretty boy silva trying his fancy moves and chael simply dragging him to the ground and putting a beating on him. hats off to the champ for gutting it out and escaping with some slick bjj, but it wouldnt have been so impressive had it not been for the relentless pummeling he received at the hands of sonnen. there’s a reason he doesnt want this rematch. he knows lightning never strikes twice.
chael threw anderson from one side of the cage to the other. made him his b*tch. FACT.
hhaah 24 minutes of a “beating” from pillow fists! at NO point was phael Ever close to finishing andy……. andy didnt have a scratch
cant say the same for phael my drug test sonnen
hahaah lightning striking twice? chaels been falliing victim to triangles for years
its more like night n day..its gonna happen
Chuck and wandy had the most hype behind it prolly but although it was a good fight i wouldnt rank it as the best ever. Imo stephan and forrest is prolly tied for first with shogun and hendo, that was just an amazing fight back and forth both guys tired both guys giving it their all for both fights
hendo/shogun fight was EPIC it would have to be one of the top’s of my list.
I enjoy watching technical battles more than I do sloopy brawls, but I still appreciate both. Some of my favorite fights are (some outside the UFC):
-Ben Henderson vs. Anthony Pettis (one of the most technical, fast paced battles in recent memory)
- Shogun vs Lil Nog
-Shogun vs Hendo
-Randy vs Big Nog
-Rich vs Wand
-Anderson vs Sonnen
-Maia vs Jason Mcadonald (by far the most competitive grappling battle in the UFC)
-Griffin vs Rampage
-Randy vs Rizzo
- Randy vs Sylvia
-Big Ng vs Sylvia
-Randy vs Gonzaga
“One Glove” vs. Royce Gracie
Couture vs Noguiera
Yo Shogun/Hendo was the best fight of all time….Dan Henderson is a beast!
the only one of those fights i havnt seen was nick diaz vs karo parisyan. sanchez vs parisyann was killer.
