UFC NEWS – Poll Results: Can Anyone Beat Jon Jones?

In our latest polling here at BJPENN.COM we asked our readers who you thought could beat UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones inside professional competition.

After almost 5,000 votes from our readers a staggering 53.4% (2,586 votes) of you thought that Anderson Silva is the man for the job.

769 voters (15.9%) voted that Rashad Evans is the man to dethrone Jones from the top of the 205 pound division and 1,489 voters (30.7%) think the champ in invincible.

Since entering the UFC in 2008, Jon Jones has taken out everyone the UFC has thrown at him in devastating fashion. This year, in 2011, Jones has been said to have had the most successful year in MMA history.

Starting out with the thrashing of top contender Ryan Bader, he went on to take out MMA legend Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 128 to earn the UFC’s most coveted world title. He followed up the Shogun victory with his first title defense over another legend in Rampage Jackson and most recently took out his third champion of the year in Lyoto Machida earlier this month.

For Jones the sky seems to be the limit. However our readers here at BJPENN.COM think that middleweight champion Anderson Silva is the one to put him to the test.

Anderson Silva is crowned as the pound-for-pound king of our sport. Unbeaten inside the Octagon, Anderson Silva is currently riding a 14-fight win streak under the UFC banner. He currently holds the record for longest title reign, most title defenses and longest win-streak in UFC history. These accolades include two first-round knockouts in the 205 pound division ruled over by Jon Jones.

  1. Jpeech says:

oh man there is no way anderson would beat jones he is to big for him…

    • El Charlie says:

Foolish foolish man … ever think about the speed and experience factor. Not to mention Anderson is a notch above Machida when it comes to striking, avoinding punches, and takedowns. I mean Jones is indeed a pot of gold but his only chance at beating Anderson is by wrestling him. And even that I think he’d have trouble with. Jones had all he can handle when facing Rampage and Machida. Had it not been for that elbow that dazed Machida then I think Machida may have beaten him. Jones is good but lets not blow him up yet. Sure he’s the 1st to defend his title more than once in about 4 years and on top of that he defeated 3 former champions in one year but he’s still not at the level of Anderson. Hate to break it to you bud but if there’s absolutely “no way” for one of these guys to pull the w it would be Jones regardless of his accomplishments.

      • BJ says:

Youre a fool. He had “all he could handle”? He took machida out in the 2nd and rampage in the 3rd. that dosnt sound like a struggle to me.

      • Mike R says:

it wasn’t the elbow that daze machida because that was long before the choke 1st rnd to be specific, it was a hard left hook that knocked machida down and set up the choke, understand this, machida had a great first round but jones adapted and adjust and best his in the 2nd as Jones always does, Jones was never in any danger

        • devilock says:

The elbow that dazed Machida was in the 2nd round when he took him down. Machida wasn’t very active in this position, which led to the massive elbow that both cut and dazed him. The ref paused the fight for a doctor’s inspection of the cut. Even after that, I don’t believe Machida recovered and was in survival mode. He then got caught by the left hook and fell into the guillotine.

      • Mike R says:

Chael said it best the middle weight division is the easiest division

        • zach says:

Would for sure have to agree with that, middleweight is still a growing division and not fully developed, and if cheals wrestling can hold down Silva, then he would have no chance against bones, he already said in a press conference that he’s not going to fight jones

      • dave says:

anderson is the best p4p ever,,,but h showed his weakness aginst sonnen..look how much bigger jones is then sonnen,,,and jones is much bettr wrestling for mma……if jones chose to stand wth anderson e would lose,,,but he is smart nd would just take anderson to the ground ike chael and beat n him there………anderson is geting old now and i think only has few fights left///////he dont even wana fight anymore,,,i thin his first loss in the ufc will be his last fight,,plus he has had tie off ad surgery now so i think it coming to an end

        • Pyro says:

First of all u need to stop reading all the bogus reports about Anderson “not wanting to fight anymore”.. he came out and said those reports were NONSENSE and he is not planning on retirement anytime soon!

Other than that.. it seems like people forget the SONNEN fight was like 1.5 year ago. Other than the injured rib Silva had, the wrestling was a hole in his game… Do u really think that since he fought Sonnen he hasn’t worked on that?? To believe someone else would step in the octagon (or even Sonnen himself) and “repeat” wat Sonnen did in the first fight is 1 big JOKE. That will never happen…!! Nobody is beating Anderson Silva in the next few years… period!

        • GRT 3000 says:

he proved that with ease on Sonnen trained Okami.

      • ricky says:

jump off a cliff you fruit cake bitch…i hate people that think they are the fucking jesus of mma, think they know everything and their opinions are always right…anderson vs jones would be an awesome fight. you dont know who would win and you dont know if jones would struggle wrestling w silva so shut the fuck up

  2. DSQD says:

Silva is on a completely different level then Jones. Jones mite be best in the world one day but still has to grow alot and has lots to learn.

    • ricky says:

is your moms throat ok?? she was deepthroating my **** pretty damn good and choked alot, just seeing how she was doing. let me know man im really concerned

  3. SP says:

Only Silva and maybe a few heavyweights. Unless Machida sticks to gameplan next time, 205 belongs to Jones for now.
No need to see him get beat now though. We should enjoy another new talent on the block. Good times for UFC as a fan.

  4. Another Endicott Hood Rat says:

BRING IT ON SPIDER! The kid from Endicott NY has got YOUR Number son! If Anderson Really wants to retire undefeated, He better stay the hell away from Jonny Bones…

    • dave says:

wow u are a real loser,,,,u sound like u maybe 12 or 13 son…i cant even start in on how stupid u sound,,,gooooooooooooooooooooof

      • Nunya says:

There was nothing in his post that makes him sound as ignorant as you. By the way Fucktard, you is spelled y-o-u. Spelling it as “u” always makes you look like you should do everyone a favor and gargle some drano.

      • Hey Dave says:

.dude you’re the one that sounds like a jackass. the guy was just stating his opinion and showing which fighter he likes. it was difficult to even start this post on telling you how stupid U sound. but, going by the 10-80-10 rule on judging people’s character (i heard about this recently in an interview of a fighter…), you are definitely in the lower 10.

  5. dave says:

yes there is no chance anderson could take jones,,,,u can see that jones learned with machida if his is getting beat standing to just take the guy down and muscle him,,,,,jones is a better wrestler than sonnen so he would easily over power anerson,,,,i like anderson better,

  6. Heineken says:

i would love to see Lyoto Machida having another try

  7. Thomas says:

Two different weightclasses. It will be to much for The Spider!

  8. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Hector Lombard could possibly take Jones out if not the Spider.

    • thosh@thoshography.com says:

It doesn’t seem like too many ppl realize it but Jones and Silva walk around at almost the same weight. Silva is a master at cutting weight to get down to 185

  9. I would love to see Junior Dos Santos knocking out somebody who should be fighting in the heavyweight division… One day he will be too old to cut weight, and when he moves up he’s gonna get fuckin pwned…

  10. Chael is the man to beat Jones he would smash him

  11. Fury says:

jones doesn’t deserve respect for what he is right now coz he is a one hell of a cocky brat.. the thing he did to machida recently when he let him go after his winning choke on him shows how rude he is.. i am not a machida fan but what he did is not acceptable.. yes, he should fight anderson silva, another boastful fighter like him to see who’s face is tougher..

  12. Dan says:

too much body power behind bones, just compare…

  13. Ricardo Bautista says:

Guys, what about Thiago Silva? lol (just saying)
Please, don’t trash talk, Im just throwing my opinion out there..

  14. slacker says:

I think Silva and Jones can beat one another on any given night. To me, they would be almost even in the stand-up (slight advantage to Silva), but Jones would have a wider advantage in the wrestling. If they fought 100 times, I would give it around 60 to 40 for Jones.

  15. ezeedouble says:

Limiting it to LHW’s i think Hendo could give Jones a good fight.

  16. bob says:

none of it matters, because this fight will never happen. Dana has pretty much come out and said just that.

  17. This guy says:

Silva is too sked to fight Jones anyway… Like GSP is too sked to fight Silva. You know who is not sked? BJ PENN.

  18. magoo says:

Anderson/Bones would be epic, like most of you I would love to see this fight, though I think JBJ would prevail imo.

  19. The Refutor says:

    Chael Sonnen

  20. ELIALI says:

JON JONES IS NO MATCH FOR SILVA ON THE FEET AND SILVA IS NO MATCH FOR JONES ON THE GROUND…. IF THIS FIGHT TOOK PLACE JON JONES WOULD BE THE VICTOR…. HE WILL PRESS HIS LUCK ON THE FEET LIKE HE DID WITH MACHIDA AND IF HE DOESNT GET KNOCKED OUT HE WILL DICTATE WHERE THE FIGHT GOES AND EVEN STOP ANDERSON SILVA….. IM A BIG FAN OF ANDERSON SILVA BUT I KNOW HE WILL LOSE TO JONES… I DONT SEE ANYONE BEATING JONES… HE IS ONLY 24 AND HASNT EVEN REACHED HIS PEAK…AND WHEN HE DOES, WE WILL SEE THE GREATEST FIGHTER IN MMA HISTORY…. AND THE FUNNY PART IS, IM NOT EVEN A FAN OF JON JONES

  21. snoop froggy dogg says:

    CHUCK NORRIS.

  22. JP says:

    Jones would beat Silva PERIOD

One of Andersons biggest advantages is his reach advantage over almost everyone. He wouldn’t have it against Jones. I think he would lose the same way Machida did.

  23. Edward says:

Alistair Overeem is the man to beat Jones. Too sad Jones is the most coward fighter of MMA same with Paul Williams of boxing. Jones fighting 5’11 guys. paul fighting 5’6″. What???? too scared to fight someone your own height and reach????? This is like a highschoolers fighting gradeschoolers. I hate this mentality, I will fight at a lower weight so I will be too big for them, if I fight someone my height and reach, fight would be equal, and I might lose.
