UFC NEWS – Pierce Replaces Condit Against Koscheck At UFC 143

With the void left by GSP, the welterweight division has again had to be shuffled. We announced earlier in the week that Carlos Condit will now face Nick Diaz for the UFC’s interim welterweight title and that booking left Josh Koscheck without an opponent.
UFC officials took to twitter yesterday evening to announce that Koscheck will stay on the UFC 143 card and face the always tough, Mike Pierce in the place of Carlos Condit.
UFC 143 is set to take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on February 4th. Nick Diaz will face Carlos Condit for the UFC’s interim welterweight title live on pay-per-view.
Pierce was last seen on the UFC on FOX 1 card edging out Paul Bradley via split-decision. The victory marked his fourth in five bouts and the NCAA division 1 wrestler has only two UFC losses since entering the promotion which came way of Jon Fitch and Johny Hendricks.
Koscheck last saw action as a last minute replacement to Diego Sanchez against Matt Hughes this past September at UFC 135. The former number-one contender and top shelf welterweight fighter has been campaigning for a fight with Condit ever since Condit was left without an opponent at UFC 137. He was eventually given his way and the Condit fight was booked however, fate took over and Condit moves on to an interim title shot while Koscheck takes a risky fight with a very formidable opponent.

What about ellenberger? he knocked jake shields out when gsp couldn’t even do that. What is the deal with him?
Sure, but you fail to remember, until Ellenberger got lucky (he does after all have more power in his hands than GSP), he wasn’t dominating Shields. GSP dominated Shields. Yes, Jake had some nice shots, and counters, but for the most part of the 5 rounder, GSP was in control. Being generous, I gave shields the 4th round. Being generous. He was fighting a guy that could only see through one eye.
So no, you can’t compare the two. However, that still wouldn’t be a bad match up for Koshchek. But I’d like to see Fitch against Josh first. Winner of that fights Ellenberger. Winner of that gets a shot at the interim title between Diaz and Condit, if GSP isn’t back by then.
Your definition of “dominated” is used in two different contexts. Yes GSP dominated Jake Shields by using his wrestling and boxing and other forms of martial arts. However, Jake Ellenberger’s fist dominated Jake Shield’s face by way of KO 1 minute into the first round…
Fitch will never fight Kos. what are you thinking?
Ya shawn is not the same thing GSP couldn’t even finish shields! Ellenberger did you should give him more credit! This guys should be fighting for a contender shot way before koscheck of like buddy said set them both up for a next contender he deserves it!
“Always tough” means “unknown.” Ha.
+1 lmao
What about Jon Fitch, only loss in last 9 years was a decision loss to GSP
as much as i don’t like fitch’s style, i agree that fitch should’ve bin brought up in the mix. i would’ve done condit vs diaz to fight fitch for interim title then kos vs (insert name) for who gets the 1st shot at new champ
I’d like to see that fight.
ellenberger puts on a good show and a better fight for kos….he would finish kos..ellenberger sshould be higher on the top 10 list
what a gay match… I was hoping for ellenburger or rory… oh well, at least we’ll probably see another brutal kos ko now.
Yeah I was hoping they’d pull Ellenberger out of the Diego matchup but oh well. Should be a good fight Kos will hand him quite a heavy ass whoopin. Mike Pierce is tough tho the people calling him “unknown” must not watch mma too often.
yeah pierce isn’t bad at all, you’d just think koscheck would get a higher ranked fighter or a little bit bigger fight. not knockin’ pierce though, if koscheck wants to keep it standing he could probably hold his own mixing up combos and using his movement, but I just don’t see him beating KOS!!
this is such a let down of a replacement i cant even believed kos signed on and agreed to this. peirce will get smashed. koscheck is a better wrestler, and has way more power. this must just be a ‘tune up’ fight for when he fights the winner of diego and ellenberger
naturally like your website however you have to check the spelling on several of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I find it very troublesome to inform the truth then again I will certainly come back again.
