UFC NEWS – Phil Davis Not Impressed With The Wrestling Of Rashad Evans

“Rashad is the same old Rashad, which is very dangerous and very skilled. I mean, he definitely has gotten better over the years but I think he’s the same old guy. The problem is that we’re both known for excellent wrestling but only one of us actually has it. So, I’m thinking about using the wrestling and mixing it up and doing what I can. There is no point in my career where I plan on abandoning my wrestling. It’s always a part of my game plan, it’s who I am, it’s my strong suit. That is something that I am going into with every fight making my point of respect. I definitely want to sharpen up my wrestling so it looks crisp and my striking. Rashad Evans is a pretty good striker and I want to be prepared for that and I gotta stay strong in jiu-jitsu because the fight will go there and I can’t let Rashad back up. How good is Rashad’s jiu-jitsu on his back? I don’t know but we will find out.”

A guest on Pro MMA Now, UFC light-heavyweight top contender, Phil Davis talks about his upcoming main event on FOX against Rashad Evans.

Often times when two wrestlers square off in the cage, the fight quickly turns to a striking match, however with Evans vs. Davis, Phil is a far more accomplished wrestler with a much higher level assault.

Still, Evans is no slouch and if Davis cannot get the fight to the ground does anyone think he can win a striking match against the former champ?

  1. Donald Pillow says:

People have “not” been impressed with Rashard since he whupped all those heavyweights to earn his first opportunity at the UFC .. I’m a wrestling fan bigtime but for this one I’m a RASHARD EVANS fan and I hope he makes Phil eat his words. Phil has no seasoning himself and he should eat his words the same way. NO SEASONING! RASHARD, KICK HIS BUTT!

  2. david teezy says:

that black chick is brianna frost. Check her out. Bomb as hell naked, belied dat

  3. Phalen says:

I like Phil Davis, I really do, but his stand up is rudimentary at best. He is slick as hell in both the wrestling and jiu-jitsu departments but if he thinks he can stand and trade with Rashad, he is in for a long night! I see a big future in the sport for Mr. Davis but come January 28th he is going to taste defeat. If Rashad comes in looking the way he did against, an admittedly aging, Tito then I have Evans via TKO in Rounds 2 or 3. I mean, Rashad at his best is a force to be reckoned with! I’m not a fan of his personality, but his speed and ability to change levels will be the deciding factor in this fight.

    • Josh says:

he just said he was looking to take him down… not trade with him

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

This should be a good warm up for Rashad since he is going to be fighting a strong wrestler in Jone Jones after this fight. Also Rashad’s Muay Thai has been looking excellent, hopefully he is done bouncing around like in his fight with Machida. I predict round 3 TKO of Phil Davis.

  4. slacker says:

I give Rashad a slight advantage in the stand-up, but I am routing for Phil Davis. I just hope the winner gives Jones his toughest test so far, which I think either one will.

  5. Bobby Larson says:

Its pretty even if you ask me for the simple fact that rashad has an edge on the striking and Phil has the edge in wrestling. When it comes to submissions I think Phil is more of a threat than Rashad. Who ever imposes there will first will most likely wound up with the W. Wouldn’t surprise who came out on top but more the way they do it.

If I had to pick I’d give it to Rashad due to the experience factor. I also think he’s a bit faster than Phil in all areas so that’s definitely and advantage. His attitude sucks and i think it overshadows his skill set but at the end of the day he’s talented and hungry. I can see Phil beating Rashad a few years from now when he’s developed more as a striker. Then again i don’t think Rashad will dominate but he’ll manage to edge out a decision imo.

  6. magoo says:

Sorry Phil aint a big Evans fan,but I’m pretty sure you’ll find out he’s on a whole different level. Ryan Bader would have been a more well matched opponent for you instead…imo

  7. lol says:

    Rashad got this punk..

  8. A.James says:

Let’s see what the brotha’s got. He’s been out for a while due to injuries. Let’s see if his striking has come up.

  9. Rusk says:

Lol s zombie black chick on the left and the sad white girl on the right

  10. Fan says:

I don’t see why people chirp causal fans, being a die hard mma fan does not make you any cooler than a casual mma fan. If people were truly die-hards they would endorse any type of fan regardless of there comittment. I myself am a huge fan btw.

  11. josh says:

Jan 28th Phil Davis goes to sleep.

  12. jc1 says:

caption contest! “uh… rashad, you’re in a club not the octogon. tone it down, before chandella smacks you with her man hands.”

  13. stone cold says:

hope phil beats rashads ass up

  14. Phil has no chance this fight will be really one sided.

    • slacker says:

What about his fight with L’il Nog? I thought he did really well adapting when he couldn’t get the double-leg. He spent quite a bit of time in half guard and never got submitted either. Where will Rashad dominate him?

      • Standing, plus Phil wont take Rashad down. Like u said Phil could hardly get Lil Nog down whos wrestling looks like a child compared to Rashads.

        • slacker says:

Well, he didn’t get him down in the 1st round. But in the 2nd and 3rd he got the single leg a couple times each round. I think he will be able to get Rashad down and vice versa. Yeah, the difference in the fight may be the stand-up boxing, although Davis throws tonnes of dangerous high leg kicks. He also has a 4 inch reach advantage on Rashad.

  15. Q says:

I think Phil Davis matches up well with Jon Jones

  16. penn legand says:

Sorry q but you are a fuckin retard

  17. a d-voted fan to anyone that fights rashad says:

Rashad’s a punk he does have great standup but how can anyone cheer for that guy after his atempted cut down towards Phil Davis, ” I’m gonna put theese hands on you worse than that coach did them kids!” I thought it sounded like he was trying to maybe, clear his conscience. GO PHIL DAVIS!!!!!!!!!!
