UFC NEWS | “Mr. Wonderful” Believes He Can Take Out Jon Jones If Given The Chance

“I think a fight with me and Jon would go like any other fight I’ve had…I am undefeated.”

In anticipation of this weekend’s UFC on FOX 2 main event between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis, “Mr. Wonderful” tells mmafighting.com that he believes if given the opportunity he would beat Jon Jones and keep his undefeated record intact.

It’s an interesting topic to discuss but he must first get through the former champ, Rashad Evans. If he does he will build a case for an eventual title shot, however, Evans is currently next in line and should Rashad fail to capture victory this weekend it is believed that Dan Henderson will get the next crack at Jones.

Davis is good, he is undefeated, pretty much steamrolled all of his opponents in his climb to the top, but is he that good? Can he take out the champ if given the opportunity?

  1. Calabama says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

  2. jae says:

davis hasnt been finishing top fighters like jones has. He has no chance against jones. my prediction. jones, first round KO

    • phace says:

More like TKO or submission…We have yet to see Jones deliver THE KO.

      • FunCrusher says:

Yeah TKO is more likely. Jones hasn’t showed straight up KO power YET. Jones is built like a young Alistair Overeem. Saying Davis has no chance is foolish. It’s a fight and anything can happen, doesnt mean Davis is likely to win, but crazy shit can happen. (Matt Serra/GSP)

  3. CrAzyBK64 says:

At least he’s confident. This fight should humble him right up. I have to go with Evans

  4. cody says:

im sorry i belive and if he looks GOOD against evans and wins y not jon wins ALL of his fights by being bigger stronger wrestler and davis can match that but for me it all comes down to how he lloks tom but imo its gonna take someone jon cant bully cause hes a true hw and davis is pretty huge himself and great at cutting weight

    • ThaGreenBandit says:

Really? He wins ALL of his fights by being a bigger stronger wrestler? His striking had nothing to do with any of his wins? What wrestling move did he use to break Vera’s orbital bone? What wrestling move did he use to make Rua tap right before the ref stopped the fight? His fight with Rampage, a whole lot of wrestling there too, huh? C’mon, bruh. Just because he incorporates wrestling into his gameplan, don’t make it sound like being the “bigger stronger wrestler” is the only reason he wins fights. GSP he is not

      • stone cold says:

@thegreenbandit: 1000% accurate lol. he is not like gsp.. he does not stall the fight he figths to finish (mostly striking)

        • ThaGreenBandit says:

I ain’t saying I know it all, but some of these dudes jump on here saying some real wild and crazy shit that just irritates the hell outta me. If it was an opinion, whatever. I can agree or disagree, but in the end, it’s your opinion. But when clowns get on here talking dumb shit, and acting as if it’s fact… I gotta call them on the bullshit.

        • cody says:

no i give all the credit in the world dude doesnt just finish fights he violently finishes them in a scary way but be real his striking isnt all that he keeps the distance and when he doesnt feel comfortable he takes u down and wears u out with his wrestling in length hes like a star fish when he sprawls on u and in all his fights he finishes it on the ground or because of something he did on the ground and i would never compare gsp to jones please gsp doesnt have anything on jones just imo hes a bully fighter and i think davis has a chance not to be bullied

      • t says:

he used wrestling to get vera down to ground so he could break his orbital bone just a quick note

        • ThaGreenBandit says:

True, no doubt, but my point was that he isn’t just using wrestling to win his fights. Yeah, he used wrestling to take down Vera, but it wasn’t a wrestling move that broke his face, was it? To point out that he used wrestling to gain control, is kinda pointless, because any fighter in MMA that doesn’t incorporate wrestling into his game won’t be is seriously limiting themselves, so to bring up the fact that Jones uses wrestling to gain control when needed doesn’t really make sense. Look at all the champions and former champions of the past ten years, and see how many of them had wrestling somewhere in there background. Look at a majority of the serious contenders and you’ll see the same thing. Whether some like it or not, wrestling is a part of this sport. Just a note.

        • phace says:

I don’t think he was saying it’s just because he’s using wrestling. I think he was saying that Jones is using his size and bullying fighters based on that. I also interpreted him saying Davis is the guy to challenge him since that size advantage won’t be there. My response to that is that Davis isn’t the guy to beat Jonny Bones. Unless he has improved by leaps and bounds from his last fight he’s not beating a Jon Jones.

  5. stone cold says:

its confidence. what do u want him to say? i am going to fcuked up? lol..

  6. THE INUK says:

all I know is you dumb mother fuckin couch potato’s cant say shit.. he is a fckin fighter! what you want him to say? not to mention, I agree… To beat jones, you need a bigger fighter. and he is bigger than most ppl whos been fighting jones… with that said, he prob wouldnt win..Id root for em though LOL

    • ThaGreenBandit says:

LOL! That’s right! “dumb mother fuckin couch potato’s” ! Best line of the day so far!

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

To beat Jones you need a well rounded fighter with an excellent ground game or TDD. Phil would get obliterated and probably retire after a fight with Jones.

  7. Amir says:

I think Davis is a great strong fighter, however, he must focus on his fight with Rashad and maybe 1 or 2 more top fighters in LHW before he can dream of fighting Jon Jones. Confidence is good. A fighter won’t win if he doesn’t have confidence in himself. BUT, Rashad’s hands are so fast. His wrestling is more than solid and he is waaay faster than Davis. If Davis can make an impressive win over Rashad, then let’s hear some talk about a possible fight with Jones. I have NEVER seen Jones nearly taken down. Obviously somebody will get him on his back one of these days and do some G&P, but I doubt Davis is fast enough to do it. Machida’s takedowns are sneaky and solid. Yet, HE couldn’t even take Jones down…and they did clinch a couple times. I don’t know who else in LHW would be faster and more skilled than Machida… Sorry Davis

    • Amir says:

I think it’s pretty obvious that Davis is quite big and he’s stronger than Jon Jones. But in my opinion, he’s not mobile enough to defeat Jones. If you keep stepping forward and stepping forward, like Rampage and Shogun, Jones will pick you apart easily. And when it goes to a clinch, Davis had better make sure he will be the one who ends up on top when it goes to the ground, because he doesn’t want to take those elbows from Jones! I think Vera, Shogun, and Rampage can agree with me on that.

      • t says:

wait a second im not sure bout that stonger part cause look at ryan bader was suppose to be alot stonger and he got manhandled by jon so yeah i dont know bout that

        • Amir says:

Yea man I think on fight night, Rogan and Goldburg will the strength advantage to Davis. But the question is… does Davis know how to use the strength againt Jones? Jones (or any fighter) doesn’t have to be the physicallly-strongest fighter, but he definitely knows how to use what he has and Jones’ usage of leverage is great. So, he is able to destroy guys, like Rampage, who are actually physically stronger. Having impeccable technique and speed among many other attributes, can void out an opponents strength advantage, which in this case, I’d say that strength advantage for Davis is marginal anyway.

        • Amir says:

LOL.. I keep forgetting Davis needs to destroy Rashad first!.. and maybe another top fighter. haha, let me get back to the next thing on the actual agenda.. Rashad vs Davis. I got Rashad by KO, so maybe we won’t even see a Davis vs Jones title match.

  8. ADOLFO says:

IM WITH PHIL DAVIS ON THIS ONE, I THINK HIM AND JONES WOULD PUT ON ONE HELL OF A SHOW, I THINK JON JONES IS DEFF AT THE PRIME OF HIS CAREER, I THINK HIS FACED A LOT OF VETERANS THAT PASSED THEYRE PRIME SO PHIL DAVIS WOULD BE A GOOD MATCH UP, IF DAVIS GETS PASSED RASHAD I THINK JUST TWO MORE FIGHTS UNDER HIS BELT HE SHOULD BE GOOD FOR A TITLE SHOT AGAINST JONES, HE HASNT BEEN A MAIN EVENT TYPE OF GUY SO THATS MORE PRESSURE AS WELL SO YEAH PHIL DAVIS VS JONES WOULD BE HELL OF A MATCH

  9. MMA Genius says:

And people say GSP can’t Finish a sandwich, Phil “mad decisions” Davis , or Phil “never finish” Davis should be his nickname. Bones will Fuckin own you! You might as well say candyman in the mirror 3 times.

    • Amir says:

LOL@ MMA Genius. I’m with you on that one! Jones FINISHES!! Man, I just don’t think Phil Davis is quick enough for JBJ right now. Nobody can even grab him and do anything with it! If you clinch with Jones, the next thing you will see will be stars via an elbow (like Machida..and that’s what dropped and stunned him), or you’ll be seeing the mat.

  10. The Refutor says:

I think Phil Davis would smack Jones’s bitch ass all over the place

  11. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Phil…. First Jones is going to break your glasses then spank you with his UFC belt because he never leaves that belt at home.

  12. chris says:

He will be verry good some day its early he will improve and when he does they are Introuble
