UFC NEWS | “Mr. Wonderful” Believes He Can Take Out Jon Jones If Given The Chance
“I think a fight with me and Jon would go like any other fight I’ve had…I am undefeated.”
In anticipation of this weekend’s UFC on FOX 2 main event between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis, “Mr. Wonderful” tells mmafighting.com that he believes if given the opportunity he would beat Jon Jones and keep his undefeated record intact.
It’s an interesting topic to discuss but he must first get through the former champ, Rashad Evans. If he does he will build a case for an eventual title shot, however, Evans is currently next in line and should Rashad fail to capture victory this weekend it is believed that Dan Henderson will get the next crack at Jones.
Davis is good, he is undefeated, pretty much steamrolled all of his opponents in his climb to the top, but is he that good? Can he take out the champ if given the opportunity?

im sorry i belive and if he looks GOOD against evans and wins y not jon wins ALL of his fights by being bigger stronger wrestler and davis can match that but for me it all comes down to how he lloks tom but imo its gonna take someone jon cant bully cause hes a true hw and davis is pretty huge himself and great at cutting weight

What wrestling move did he use to make Rua tap right before the ref stopped the fight? His fight with Rampage, a whole lot of wrestling there too, huh? C’mon, bruh. Just because he incorporates wrestling into his gameplan, don’t make it sound like being the “bigger stronger wrestler” is the only reason he wins fights. GSP he is not

True, no doubt, but my point was that he isn’t just using wrestling to win his fights. Yeah, he used wrestling to take down Vera, but it wasn’t a wrestling move that broke his face, was it? To point out that he used wrestling to gain control, is kinda pointless, because any fighter in MMA that doesn’t incorporate wrestling into his game won’t be is seriously limiting themselves, so to bring up the fact that Jones uses wrestling to gain control when needed doesn’t really make sense. Look at all the champions and former champions of the past ten years, and see how many of them had wrestling somewhere in there background. Look at a majority of the serious contenders and you’ll see the same thing. Whether some like it or not, wrestling is a part of this sport. Just a note.
I don’t think he was saying it’s just because he’s using wrestling. I think he was saying that Jones is using his size and bullying fighters based on that. I also interpreted him saying Davis is the guy to challenge him since that size advantage won’t be there. My response to that is that Davis isn’t the guy to beat Jonny Bones. Unless he has improved by leaps and bounds from his last fight he’s not beating a Jon Jones.

To beat Jones you need a well rounded fighter with an excellent ground game or TDD. Phil would get obliterated and probably retire after a fight with Jones.
I think Davis is a great strong fighter, however, he must focus on his fight with Rashad and maybe 1 or 2 more top fighters in LHW before he can dream of fighting Jon Jones. Confidence is good. A fighter won’t win if he doesn’t have confidence in himself. BUT, Rashad’s hands are so fast. His wrestling is more than solid and he is waaay faster than Davis. If Davis can make an impressive win over Rashad, then let’s hear some talk about a possible fight with Jones. I have NEVER seen Jones nearly taken down. Obviously somebody will get him on his back one of these days and do some G&P, but I doubt Davis is fast enough to do it. Machida’s takedowns are sneaky and solid. Yet, HE couldn’t even take Jones down…and they did clinch a couple times. I don’t know who else in LHW would be faster and more skilled than Machida… Sorry Davis
I think it’s pretty obvious that Davis is quite big and he’s stronger than Jon Jones. But in my opinion, he’s not mobile enough to defeat Jones. If you keep stepping forward and stepping forward, like Rampage and Shogun, Jones will pick you apart easily. And when it goes to a clinch, Davis had better make sure he will be the one who ends up on top when it goes to the ground, because he doesn’t want to take those elbows from Jones! I think Vera, Shogun, and Rampage can agree with me on that.

Yea man I think on fight night, Rogan and Goldburg will the strength advantage to Davis. But the question is… does Davis know how to use the strength againt Jones? Jones (or any fighter) doesn’t have to be the physicallly-strongest fighter, but he definitely knows how to use what he has and Jones’ usage of leverage is great. So, he is able to destroy guys, like Rampage, who are actually physically stronger. Having impeccable technique and speed among many other attributes, can void out an opponents strength advantage, which in this case, I’d say that strength advantage for Davis is marginal anyway.
LOL.. I keep forgetting Davis needs to destroy Rashad first!.. and maybe another top fighter. haha, let me get back to the next thing on the actual agenda.. Rashad vs Davis. I got Rashad by KO, so maybe we won’t even see a Davis vs Jones title match.
