UFC NEWS: Miguel Torres Cut From The UFC Due To Twitter Remarks

“This morning I’m on [Michael] Landsberg’s show, up here in Canada, and he hits me with the quote of what he tweeted. Now there’s no explanation for that. There’s absolutely nothing I could say to make any sense of that. And the fact that he even thinks that’s funny or that’s a joke, it disturbs me. It bothers me. Again, you’re dealing with a guy that’s a smart guy, that owns his own business, that’s been one of the top fighters in the world forever. And I cut him today. Miguel Torres has been cut from the UFC and his career with us now is over,” said White “And then he said he hadn’t heard what happened to Forrest [Griffin, who drew fire for tweeting "Rape is the new missionary" last month]. Really? Where do you live? What business are you in? How do you not hear about these things? You should have paid more attention. It’s to the point now where, there’s going be times when things happen and mistakes are made. I cannot defend Miguel Torres. I cannot defend what he said. What he said makes no sense other than when he says, “It was a joke.” Well, I don’t think that’s a funny joke. I think it’s disturbing.

As a result of his tweet from yesterday, top ranked UFC bantamweight, and former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres has been cut from the UFC.  Dana White made the announcement in an interview with SI.com earlier.

Yesterday, Torres sent out a Tweet that said “If a rape van was called a surprise van more women wouldn’t mind going for rides in them. Everyone likes surprises.” Unlike Forrest Griffin and Rashad Evans, who also made public remarks that have upset some fans and some media, Torres was not given a pass for his comments.  Was Dana right for cutting Torres, or should Miguel have known better given recent, similar events?

who cares what people say or tweet……

    • DontBeScaredHomie says:

Typical Dana being a fat fucking cry baby on a power trip if you actually follow Torres on twitter he posts dumb/funny shit like that all the time no need to be cut if you’re really that big of a baby and a stupid joke like that makes you fire the guy shouldn’t he fire forrest for tweeting dumbass shit like that all the time too I mean if your gonna be a fag about this atleast be fair

      • Ian Mearns says:

        SERIOUSLY what a fucking baby

      • jersey says:

if he doesnt like the person he will get rid of them for anythng

      • JGrenke says:

        Hey Genius,

If you ran your own business, stop . . . actually . . . if you ran a business and expected to have continual success for more than say, 5 years, would you want your employees making rape jokes to your customers? No! Who would?

I don’t expect you to understand since you’re clearly someone who can’t put spaces between “at” and “least”. Not to mention, you throw terms like “dumbass” and “fag” around; thinking that’s also acceptable behaviour.

Give your head a shake, stud.

        Grow up.

        • americanjj says:

point taken….counter point – freedom of speech – but like you said, he’s an employee, and *if* dana & the UFC has documented what an employee can say or not say, then he might have broken a rule in the manual. plus, rape is not a joke.
i could tell it was a stupid joke, but forrest (goldenboy) griffens joke was even less funny. they probably amended the employee handbook, and m.torres didn’t get the memo.

        • DontBeScaredHomie says:

Okay you dirty old man go crawl back under that rock you came from Torres can say whatever the hell he wants and it should matter just because little children like you have paper thin skin and get offended at things that don’t even affect you personally he lost his job because of dumb people like you that love to cry about every little thing so why you don’t take your own advice and grow up

    • jesus barrientos says:

fuk danna kick evens for his comment on penn state fighters are fights, said dana fukin stupid

    • JGrenke says:

      Give this guy a medal.

That is probably the stupidest question I’ve ever heard.

Right . . . who cares what people say or tweet. Coming from the guy who posts a comment on a public board hoping we see what he writes!

      You’re actually an idiot.

  2. 808 says:

Dana White needs to calm the fuck down and think before he starts cutting people because of a twitter post. If he wants the UFC to be like the other ‘professional’ sports, just fine the guy or suspend him.

    • Sleepy says:

What he tweeted was stupid but his jokes and tweets and any other social site life is his business. He would have to deal with his loss of fans and his image. These guys don’t get paid what they should for what they do: put their life and health at extreme risk. It’s White and his investors who walk away with all the cash. I’m a huge fan of the sport but I think Dana is on too much of a power trip and should be more willing to dig in his pockets to reward the ones who put there health at risk just so he can live his lavish lifestyle and continue on his power trip.

      • ricky says:

you fucking kidding me? It has been confirmed GSP makes $4-5 MILLION every fight…Jon Jones just bought a new bentley continental GT and hes had how many fights in the UFC…these guys make a fuck load of money.

        • russ says:

@ Ricky GSP might make 4 to 5 million a fight once you add in his endorsements but what The UFC pays him per fight is more like 350k to 500k and with Jones getting that Bentley they’re like 200k he could have bought that with one fight check and still had some money left over.

        • mmaislandjunkie says:

yeah bones is black you know all his money goes to cars and rims, did you see if he had gas in his tank? lmao just kidding all you papolos out there.

        • dave says:

what is your point…did i iss soething…i though th thread waas torres,,why tal about gsp

        • Cletus Jackson says:

Can you repeat that, but in english sir?

  3. Mike says:

hes one of the best pound for pound fighters around. way too far

  4. Reasonable Thoughts says:

He should not have been cut. That’s very disapointing, this guys career is going to be over because of a joke. Stupid.

  5. nelson says:

I think Its ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT that Dana White is critical of Miguel’s comments when he allows assholes like Chael Sonnen to to be bigots and spew their xenophobic hatred towards brazilians . Let’s not forget that he cheated and was taking what amounts to be a form of steroids multiplied by the fact that he was facing felony charges for money laundering ….shame on you Dana. You fucking hypocrite ….Try to run your business less like Bank of America.

  6. mick says:

twitter is fucking retarded….to cut someone from their career for saying something creepy…..even more fucking retarded

  7. enygma2u says:

The truth? Miguel Torres ain’t as big of a draw as Evans/Griffin/Sonnen – Dana White is a frickin’ joke in this situation. He ain’t concerned about anything but what the bottom line is – his money. No warning/suspension? Straight to a pink slip? Way to pick and choose your battles Dana – what a joke, for real.

  8. Jorge Rivera (not the fighter) says:

So let me get this straight: once you’re in the UFC, you lose your right to free speech? Granted, what was tweeted is messed up, to put it lightly, but you fine the guy as was already suggested. No need to fire the talent.
Why not do what other sports do that works? What’s next, will UFC fighters have to vote republican too?

    • BX81 says:

How did he loose the right? He said it didn’t he? Just because you can say something doesn’t mean you should. Torres was an idiot for that. If he gets fired for it then so be it. All the fighters need to understand you can do as you want but your actions have to be accounted for. Especially now the UFC is on FOX. You think they want that kind of press. Same for Rashad today. What he said was ignorant as hell, especially with his kid there. You can joke about things with your circle but the minute you step into the open forum you better understand not everyone thinks the rape of young boys or women is funny.

  9. Jb says:

He’s probably the most inconsistent fucking guy ever. This coming from a man who verbally attacked a female reporter? Good job Dana fuckin retard

  10. Calvin says:

Justified just because they are with Fox now and people need to be better behaved to make the company look good unjustified because other people get away with crap like this. And to all calling Dana money hungry Miguel will be back like you said Dana cares alot about the money and this guy is going to get on another big streak and the urge will be too much to resist for Dana to not cash in.

    • mmaislandjunkie says:

justified? well then why wasnt rashad punished for actually saying something way out of line DURING A FOX PRESS CONFERENCE????? dana white plays favorite with ufc fighters, suck his dick and youll never lose your job.

  11. imposter says:

    dana white is gay.

  12. GRT 3000 says:

I call bullshit. There has to be something more to this than a fuckin’ tweet. It was a joke, a little distasteful but it wasn’t that bad. There’s another motivation for this; & if not Dana needs to chill the fuck out. You don’t fire a top fighter over a cheesy micro-blog.

  13. Mike says:

Dana encourages his fighters to tweet and gain fans by offering them money. When your boss says the words faggot and cunt freely, he has no business firing you for making a inappropriate joke. This is the UFC’s fault here for not laying guidelines down for public behavior.

  14. Robster the Mobster says:

At least Dana White is consistent in his punishment of fighters and doesn’t go of half…..oh wait….never mind.

  15. livEecarbmE says:

Twitter, facebook and the like are the new CB radios-everyone has a false sense of securityand anonomity, siplanting common sense for a percieved cleverness, funniness and “coolness” yet seemingly afraid to say such “jokes” publicly-rather electing to remaidn veiled behing whatever “social medium” they choose. Idiots are idiots and stupid remarks are just that. Perhaps Dana is overreacting to a cumilative rash of stupidity that reflect poorly on his organization and the people HE chooses to grant lucrative contracts too. Essentialy this is similar to the Plaxico Burress and Pac-Man Jones debacle. The UFC seems to award big contracts to some people who lack the emotional maturity to deal with the fame and populatiry that accompany it.
Dana will regret this and probably retract the termination but expect a suspension. If the termination stands it will serve as a wake up for other to think before they tweet. Solution: just don’t tweet.

  16. AAxAntonio says:

this is danas version of a personal conduct policy, i dont feel like he should of been cut i think there is other ways to do damage control, but if you are trying to get mma accepted by the mainstream, and you got someone who’s comments affects that, if you worked as had as dana you would be pissed off too. same thing happened to marquardt, he did something that other fighters have done who didnt get cut, just the wrong time to do something stupid.

    • JJ says:

Its bullshit anyway you look at it. If he is so worried about this professional image then maybe he should start with his conduct first. Ive been at press conferences where Dana speaks and uses words like Fuck, Cunt, Bitch. All words i wont even speak in fron of my child and but he had no problem doing it in front of plenty children. Yes, he is the boss but conduct yourself like a 17y/o at a bush party then crucify the next guy for saying something. Considering Dana will say this stuff on live T.V. on record this was on twitter where most people didnt even know he said it until it was blown into a huge ordeal. As far at that mainstream shit goes making it the big ordeal it is now was worse than anything. True MMA Fans already knew who he is and still dont probably follow his twitter so theres no way in hell new fans that just started from the mainstream coverage know who he is yet alone subscribing to his twitter. So in other words Dana a piece of shit hypocrite who needs some professional conduct himself and his overreaction to the situation brought more attention to this than Torres’ actual comments

      • AAxAntonio says:

being vulgar and making jokes that make light of rape are two different things, and like i said there’s probably a better way to go about it but he is one of the boss’s and he makes those decisions

        • JJ says:

He quoted a TV show yes it wasnt a wise statement to post but not worthy of losing his job. While your feeling righteous and correct. Why not look at how Rashad made a joke that was offensive to REAL rape victims on TV at a conference and was not confronted at all. Bottom line dana is a hothead, spiteful, and a notorious hypocrite. Oh and i forgot he plays favorites like theres no tomorrow.

        • bbjr says:

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Rashad’s joke was at a press conference (on the clock, if you will) and doesnt get anything more than a verbal warning. Miguel Torres makes a joke on his PERSONALl twitter account and gets the can!!! Are you freakin kidding me???? I understand with the UFC going mainstream that Dana is trying to set an example and get his fighters to watch their mouths but come on Dana smoke a joint and think about your decision here.

  17. YOyO says:

first of all these guys are Professional Fighters. Professional comes first, yea Dana did the right move, it goes to show the UFC does not tolerate that kinda shit. Cmon you joking about women and rape as a Pro, Migeul had it coming, he just kinda set himself up. Besides these MMA fighters are role models, these kids look up to them. Poor example Miguel

    • JJ says:

And the shit Chael says about a race of people isnt?? Or making comments about another fighters wife and family is professional? Then basically calling a harmless ring girl a dumb piece of meat or a slut isnt grounds for punishment?? Dana can kiss a dick. Miguel never condoned rape i believe it was actually a comment from a movie or show cus ive heard it before. Anyway Dana white needs to get the dick out his because he is far from the poster boy of professionalism. Like i stated before ive seen him live at press conferences and speechs and let me tell you what. There’s obscenity he wont say, i dont use foul language in front of my 5y/o daughter. On the other hand Dana had no problem blurting them out in front of her along with every other child in the room. So if his bald ass wants professional conduct he needs to start with himself as the CEO to set the standard and maybe issue an ultimatum to his fighters. Before he sits there and acts like a frat boy on public record and then completely destory the next guys for quoting something.

    • dave says:

if ufc don allow shot like that why is forrest not cut rashad not cut or cheal…he cut miggel for personal reasons ..dana prob did not really like him and had secret grudge,,,plus miggal aint lookt good as of late

  18. BJPennrules says:

Now that the UFC ..is with Fox Dana is probably just trying to make the fighters appear to be super clean..model citizens..he is just using Torres to make the UFC look cleaner then it really is..too bad Torres is a solid fighter..and had a long career ahead of him..I would imagine torres should have just been penalized and maybe suspended for a year..like the steroid abusers..

  19. MMFT says:

wow dana… I’ve had you back on some dumb decisions… but wow… starting to think maybe the ufc does need a new front man.

  20. bizzle says:

It’s always sunny in Philadelphia FTW

  21. josh says:

Shame on you dana… how can u do this? Even if it was a rape joke still has no right to cut him. U just ended his career, his life, and his passion. Why not cut chael? Why not cut bisping? After all what torres did was just REPEATING. Bisping said FUCK U ALL on tuf weigh ins. Isn’t that more offensive to us and all the fans who watch mma? If ur gunna cut torres, then cut bisping for us.

  22. Chile says:

Hopefully social network bullshit isn’t the downfall of the Ufc. This is going to get worst before better I have feeling.

  23. Calx451 says:

Rape should never be a joke. And yes, I believe professional athletes do need to be held to higher standards because they are public figures and for some even role models. That being said, I think a hefty fine would have been an appropriate punishment, especially in light of other fighters being spared for similar offenses.

The UFC’s aspirations towards legitimacy are admirable. However, to have credibility the punishment needs to fit the crime, it nees to be executed swiftly (Dana apparently has no problem there), and it also needs to be CONSISTENT. So far Dana fails 2 out of the 3. Come up with some ethical standards for fighter conduct, and carry them out across the board. For example…. Racist or other highly offensive public statements are not tolerated and fighters responsible will be fined up to 20% of their last purse per offense. Subsquent offenses will be met with escalating fines and or dismissal.

Not only does it give fighters a financial incentive for maintaining their conduct, but it also puts more pressure on fighters of higher stature by taking a larger sum of money. Dana could also appropriately disperse the fine money to a related charity – in this case a woman’s shelter or sexual abuse survivors fund.

    Just my .02

    • JJ says:

I like your idea of taking the fines and donating them to charities, it was very good. And yes i do believe that there should be a standard for conduct of the fighters especially with the ever growing exposure. The exposure is sure to gain many children as fans who will in turn look up to the fighters. But i have a huge beef with the shit that dana is pulling. Dana himself is a major offender of unprofessional conduct. Yes, hes the boss but that begs for even more of a higher standard people will see his conduct as a reflection of the company. Many instantaces people believe the organization is only as good as the owner. With that said Dana have more graphic and obscene soundbytes than anyone. So before he ends people lives and dreams 1 he needs to bring his conduct to a much more higher level and 2 issue a warning or affidavit of acceptable conduct before jumping all over someones ass. Other than that i do like the idea of fines and especially the idea of donating them to charities that would be great PR for the company and also make people realize that we arent barbarians

  24. JJ says:

This is such bullshit. Its not like hes condoning rape or something. Actually that statement he said sounds familiar in a way i think it might actually be from a movie or a comedian. Either way to fire a former champ who was coming back into contention and who was at one point considered one of the top P4P fighters in the world is just insane. Nelson said it best Chael can sit there and speak about another fighters wife in such a disrespectful way and then ariyanny is far more unprofessional. IDK why Chael can be a total scumbag on top of cheating which makes the UFC look like shit and he gets left alone. Dana your fucking up and have been for a while buddy get your shit straight asshole. Im losing more respect for this bald hypocritical douche by the week i hate to admit i used to like him! Bring Torres back or start taking it to Sonnen you egotistical bitch..

  25. joe rogan is my hero says:

    Dana is a dumb fuck

  26. D says:

Wow, dana really? From everything dana says he is about the sport and the fans. His actions seem to always show the exact opposite…. Sad

  27. Kyle says:

This isn’t even his comment. It’s a quote from Workaholics (a show on Comedy Central). Dumb to tweet it? Of course…. But other UFC guys have gotten away with WAYYYY worse, and FUCKING DANA himself says things way worse than this all the time, it’s the pot calling the kettle black.

  28. James says:

Dana White is charged with preserving UFC’s image. There’s a delicate balance to maintain; and there are limits to what fighters can say and do under the UFC brand. At the end of the day, MMA is still a business with a business model to pursue.

    • JJ says:

Understandable but as the owner you are the man who is most recognized for the legitamcy and appearance of your company. And lets be realistic we know what Torres wasnt appropriate but he wasnt condoning rape. It was a quote from a show he enjoys. But like i was saying Dana is also charged as being the face and well as representative and of the UFC and MMA. And lets be honest he says many fouls things on public record. Like i said i seen a press conference of his with my daughter who i dont curse in front of and Dana must of atleats 10 times. So before he ruins a fighters life and dreams he needs to begin the professional conduct with himself. He is supposed to be the model of the UFC but yet talks like hes a frat party. He overreacted at a situation which he has been guilty of himself MANY times!

  29. Erik says:

Damn skippy he should have been cut. Don’t give me the argument the UFC is trying to be like other sports. Who wants to be like other sports. Baseball and steroids, basketball with a bunch of rich spoiled babies. Come on people, pull your heads out of your collective asses. As a fighter you are under contract with the UFC, which means everything you do and say is a representation of the UFC. How is it thT none of you has an issue with this. Please tell me MMA is not filled with the kind of people the general public thinks it is. How can anyone think this would be ok? Fighting in the UFC, or any other professional organization is a privilege not a right. Act like an intelligent human being. in what world would this kind of comment be acceptable. And let’s not lose sight of the wfact that Dana just signed a $700 million contract to take the sport mainstream. You don’t think there is a magnifying glass on the UFC right now. Dana has to protect the coany and it’s future, and the future of every current and future UFC fighter. This isn’t a mom and pop operation hillbillies. Welcome to the real world where you can’t be an ignorant shit head and just get away with it.

    • JJ says:

Ignorant shit head?? Pretty much everything that just came out of your mouth describes you as just that. There was no reason in hell that he should of been cut for that. He was quoting a t.v. show not telling people to rape women. Yes the statement was in bad taste and he should of thought about what he is posting. Meanwhile you have assholes like Chael Sonnen who disrespect other fighters, other fighters wives and even harmless ring girls, also is under criminal investigation for political crimes. Not to mention that he completely disrespected a country and race of people. What was his punishment for that situation?? I dont care how big the microscope, its completely obvious there is favoritism and a lack of balance in the controlling of conduct. Also you have a CEO of a rapidly growing but yet still highly scrutinized sport who behaves like a 17 year old at his first frat party. He is supposed to be the total image and epitome of representation for UFC/Zuffa. And how does he conduct himself? Saying fuck this, bitch that, asshole, cunt, whatever else he feels like saying. But we have our heads up our asses because the man who should be the most professional is one of the least mannered. Not to mention i seen him live who cursed his ass off in front of my 5y/o when i dont even curse in front of her. So sorry we dont see the situation from your high and mighty position. Perhaps it might be you and Dana who have their heads up their asses. This is easily a complete mistake and over reaction to fire this man without warning for one comment. Especially when you have a boss who is the biggest offender and portrays himself in a way that makes the company look anything but mature and professional. Then to allow other fighters disrespect fighters families, ring girls, actual rape victims and commit crimes without fear of losing their jobs. So yes im ignorant with my head up my ass becuase i dont side with the most unprofessional, ill mannered, spiteful and hypocritcal billion dollar CEO to ever exist!!

  30. Adrian says:

Wow Dana, I usually agree with your decisions or at least don’t have much of a problem with them. But this is ridiculous, was there really no other solution??

  31. LoL Dana White must not like Miguel or his managment. I thought Forrest Griffin saying “Rape is the new missionary” was worse but whatever poor Miguel on his way to Bellator where he cant even get the belt there either.

  32. kit says:

What the shit… You shouldn’t get fired over something that happens outside of the octagon, isn’t illegal and is totally unrelated to a fight! I’m a woman and I don’t even find that joke offensive. Fired over a tweet, really? Ridiculous.

  33. BobbO says:

What he said was a disgrace to The UFC, not to mention Fox, Spike ect. If you idiots want this sport to be taken seriously, then you need to understand what public relations means. Too bad most of you braindead morons just don’t get that side of the deal. Well, Dana White luckily does. He’s taking the smart road on this.

With that being said, If I were Dana I would ban all fighter tweets much like a few NFL teams do for their players. ~BobbO

    • mmaislandjunkie says:

hey big titty bobbo im fine with the punishment what i am not fine with is the inconsistency of these punishments and how dana picks and chooses who to punish. if favoritism was not involved everything would be kosher but dana white is a hypocritical douche and no mma website ever writes about it cuz theyre scared hes gonna ban them from every ufc event.

    • JJ says:

Who are you talking to you fucking moron?? The comment Torres’ made was a quote from a TV show. Secondly, Rashad Evans made a joke that was truly offensive to actual rape victims. Yet you speak of a sport that needs to be taken seriously when there is serious evidence of nothing but favortism. Then your riding Dana’s dick saying he taking the smart road for the image of Zuffa. Has your stupid ass ever watched an interview or press conference with Dana in it?? I guess a CEO cursing his ass off saying fuck, bitch and cunt does wonders for the representation of a billion dollar corporation. I’ve met him and seen him speak live with my daughter and he must of used obscenities on atleast more than 10 occasions. In which case i dont curse in front of my daughter but the man so concerned on Zuffa’s appearnace had no problem cursing in front of her including the numerous other children attending that event. So your statements just prove your much more stupid than we all assumed. Dana is wrong and completely over reacted. Maybe he should fire himself then becuase truthfully when it comes to public representation he is more obscene that anyone. So that CEO behaving like a fratboy makes great P.R. for a company. Next time before you come on here like your some type of genius try using a little bit of that brain in your head. Your wrong, dana is wrong he needs to make a policy and issue it to all fighters then study it, After he needs to be the first one to accept and begin to present himself as a professional before ruining someone elses life like the hypocritical piece of shit that he is. Also i forgot to tell you your a fucking moron and know nothing about what you pretend to be so intelligent about!

    • bizzle says:

Your an idiot Bobbo… Rashad and Forrest said way worse, and in Rashad’s case he used a real actual rape case reference, Torres used a quote from a fictional show..

  34. KingGareth says:

Even if a joke is offensive, the intent wasn’t to hurt anybody. He should have been talked to and warned. Rashad Evans made a Penn state joke during a press conference for UFC on Fox2 that I think was worse than Miguel’s tweet. Rashad wasn’t fired.

    • GRT 3000 says:

I agree, if DWs motivation is to make a statement to fighters about distasteful tweets/commentary he should fine the shit out em’. If they do it again, then he can consider something more strict (like firing). but getting canned first-offense over a micro-blog?! That’s rough; he shouldn’t jack up Miguels career for the sake of precedent.

  35. Findog23 says:

nah that aint right. if you didnt cut evans or griffen. he cut torres because he doesn’t bring in the revenue like those 2 so he is going the be the example from withe that if this happens again and you are not a top earner then you will get cut. however, if you are a top draw then you will get warned.

  36. isaac borquez says:

    I

  37. Jon says:

Wow Dana. Fucking asshole on a power trip.

  38. Mike Diaz says:

If the comment was just a tv quote, then cutting him would be bulls***! Obviously Dana wanted to make an example of Torres to his company, that dumbf*** comments on Twitter aren’t going to be had. Unfortunately for Miguel, his career had to be the example to Dana’s company…..TEAM PENN!!!!!!!

  39. evilbeast says:

You went over the line this time Dana. Admit you were wrong, take it like a man and make it right. The man said something stupid (something we’ve all done) and you end his career with the fastest growing business in mma. Not cool and I am a big fan of you Dana, MAKE THIS RIGHT!!! My 2 cents, Thanks

    • GRT 3000 says:

send Miguel to a Joe Rogan concert to learn proper etiquette for the UFC. lol, SanSoo made a great point with that one.

  40. isaac borquez says:

I think this is the first time and not the last time we see dana make make a decision that was influenced by the new “PARTNERS” ……..Not good for the sport or the fans!!!

  41. Millerhighlife says:

Fuck you Dana White, your running your company based on fighters social standing instead of their fighting. Are you trying to be these fighters dad or something? “Watch your mouth boy or your getting kicked out”-Dana le douche bag White. Only rebuttal needed from Miguel is I weigh 135 pounds and I would whoop the shit outta you 365 days of the year anytime, Fuck you if you don’t like my offensive jokes. Your prep school didn’t prep you for the real world Dana cause just about anyone has heard more offensive jokes in elementary school. The way to handle this is to say that the fighters under your organization are individual people and you neither are responsible or condone for the things these figthers say. Seriously you promote the UFC as the organization that houses the best fighters in the world but you have kicked out some of the very best of all time

  42. Jay says:

Maybe Dana got thrown in a van and got raped when he was a kid?? That’s why he took offense? Lol I’m jk that’s horrible ha. But it’s still messed up Torres got fired.

  43. Leefal says:

It’s funny, I’m a huge MMA fan, but the only reason I heard this “joke” is because Torres got cut, which is big news, so you read it, and now I read what one of Dana’s fighters said.
Had he just called him into his office and fined him, the “joke” would’ve stayed in a much smaller pond, Miguel would be out of pocket and the UFC would have kept a talented fighter.
    Management fail by Dana.

Sucks for Torres, of all the rape jokes he could have told, he bowed out on one that wasn’t even funny.

Sad day for the UFC and tasteless jokes.

  44. SanSooRob says:

Okay but Joe rogan still has a job lololol

  45. isaac cruz says:

What Torres said wasn’t right and he’s not representing the sport properly therfore a fine or suspention is neccesary but a cut like that is out of line. Unless there’s more to it?

  46. G says:

Wow. Can’t say that I’m happy with this call. Torres might have a suit on his hands. Freedom of speech, whether people like it or not, is one of the most beautiful things we have in this country and should be the most beautiful (and protected) thing on this Earth. Not to mention, he was joking. Dark sense of humor, normal sense of humor, who’s got the right to remove someone from their job because of a humorous statement (whether one person finds it funny or not). Yes, he’s a semi-public figure because of his elevated status, but come on, reprimand him, talk to him, but don’t CUT him from the UFC.

    • GRT 3000 says:

good point G; Miguel could most definitely have a lawsuit on the UFC for this. Be interesting to hear the follow up.

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

He has no chance in a court of law, He isn’t the first person to get fired over stupid comments on twitter and won’t be the last. I think Charlie Sheen was the last high profile person to get fired because of his comments on twitter or somewhere and he exercised his freedom of speech rights. I mean when you first apply for a job there is small print on the bottom stating that they can fire you for whatever reason they like.

You have freedom of speech up until it affects others, which is why those occupiers got kicked out of Zukati (sorry I can’t spell it) park, Vendors who worked in the area were forced out of work and normal people couldn’t use the park…

    • BX81 says:

Freedom of speech? What did he not say that he wanted to? He said what he said and that’s it. Everyone crying about rashad and Sonnen need to understand this. Not everyone in life gets the same type of punishment for the same crime. Do I think Sonnen and rashad should have some type of fines or suspensions sure. It’s dana’s decision in the end. I’m personally glad he delt with this swiftly. When you open your mouth you should be held accountable for your words. The problem with our society is it’s become too common to use things like rape as a joke. I spent 7 years active duty 95B military police and I tell you when a you get a call to house and you see the results 1st hand it’s not funny. I dont’ know if I would fire him but he has to live with his punishment. PS. as much as I like to watch chael fight, that guy should’ve been fired!

  47. TheBraveReply says:

    What Did Rashad say?

    • mmaislandjunkie says:

he said at a live ufc on fox press conference:
“I guarantee you’ll be the first one to take a shot cause I’m going to put my hands on you worse than that dude did them other kids at Penn State.”

      • TheBraveReply says:

Whoa. That’s definitely premeditated. Torres’ statement was just a repeat.

        • mmaislandjunkie says:

yeah tell me about it. but dana actually parties and shit with rashad and rashad kisses danas ass so of course rashad will never be punished. but i guess lil mexicans are disposable to dana.

  48. Josh Flood says:

This is ridiculous. Torres is great in the octagon and his tweets are hilarious. I expected him to be in the top5 when the UFC gave twitter awards, but I think the UFC is partial to the people it gave the awards to like Forrest. I don’t know how Dana demands his fighters interact so much with the public and then blasts them when they make a mistake or two. Dana is wrong. Torres is a great fighter. Dana will have him back in the UFC soon and reinforce the fact that you can’t take Dana seriously.

  49. Scott says:

lol I thought Torres’ tweet was funny. The kind of thing I’d write. It was random and a little rough, but funny. I don’t know. Seems Dana was really worried about backlash from the media. He’s walking on eggshells because the UFC is in a very crucial phase of its upward rise. He doesn’t want anything derailing it.

  50. Long-Strong says:

Miguel Torres needs a role in the Expendables sequel because that’s exactly what he is… expendable. Rashad and Forrest are too big of a names as well as UFC grown fighters to have been cut. He’s a bit of a moron for tweeting this anyway. You’re a bit of a celebrity and definitely are professional in something, your attitude in handling your image should be professional as well. Couldn’t he have tweeted “had awesome workout” instead. Fucking idiot.

  51. Mike says:

For all the morons that think he shouldnt get cut your crazy. I personally own my own company and if one of my public representatives said something like that for the entire world to read I would fire him imediately. Miguel is a public representative for the UFC and he crossed the line, and now he has to pay the price. Look at it from a business standpoint not a dumbass fan that thinks that just because the guy can fight he should be able to disrespect the organization he works for in any way he wishes.

    • mmaislandjunkie says:

hey mike ppl wouldnt be so upset if there was a uniform type of code of conduct held by the ufc. unfortunately the only code in place is kiss danas ass or be fired. what rashad said to phil davis at a LIVE PRESS CONFERENCE was much worse than what miguel tweeted on his twitter account. why punish some but not others, what kind of message would that send if you did that in your company?!?

  52. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Torres is another casualty of dumb use of twitter… I feel bad for him but this happens all the time with other occupations. If you can’t watch what you say then you shouldn’t have a twitter or Facebook. It isn’t even a funny joke. I think @MMAJunkie said it was from always sunny but having not seen that episode it makes him seem insensitive to rape victims.

Dana should either be consistent or penalize them in other ways than firing. NFL fines their players lots of money or benches them, why can’t the UFC? Rampage, Rashad and Forrest haven’t been reprimanded or penalized for what they have done. This is a little harsh and I think Dana should look to other sports organizations for ways to punish its own for misconduct that might bring humiliation on the UFC.

  53. wannaberich says:

to become mainstream (i.e. FOX), this type of humor is no longer tolerated. dealing w/the devil, you lose your freedom. different game, different rules. too bad torres has to be the example.

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Stomping out a fire before feminist organizations jump in and ruin this
      fox deal is right.

    • lmaooooo says:

Actually, Miguel got the joke from a FOX owned tv show Always sunny…. so it really just makes dana and the ufc look like idiot’s… oh yeah and you too!

  54. Eric El Bestia says:

I see Miguel Torres being The King of Bellator.

  55. james says:

idk if you just read it without thinking its funny, but once you actually sit and think about it it can be taken the wrong way. an apology and promise to “never do it again” is what should’ve happened, it was bad but it wasnt THAT bad. dana had more time to think about it compared to the other fighters that have said stupid shit and decided i better cut him. it’s not like the UFC is full on fox broadcasting, if they were i could see why they would cut him; but they’re not. stupid move on the UFC’s part.

  56. Miguel Torres says:

dana is a rape joke he gets raped ever day by joe silva and the fortetta brothers. plan fact of the whole situation is forest had the fight that dana believes is what made the sport and he also loves rashad’s BBC i mean he has been the #1 contender for ever and aint done shit wonder why dana you cock fag do us all a favor and hang yourself because if they don’t make you money they aint shit to yo that’s why you fucked diaz cause he was gonna break your little gay french bitch and the great dana couldn’t have his bankroll fucked up and by the way have you herd the shit that comes out of that homo whites mouth on a daily basis he should fire himself and when i say homo i mean has anyone ever seen him with a women just a egohead cocksucker that treat’s his fighters as merchandise http://www.fuckdanawhite.com

  57. Chaoz87 says:

Btw Torres was just qouting It’s always sunny, it’s a dark comedy. Its called dark comedy for a reason, I think Dana should have thought about it and just fine Torres a future winning purse and donated it to an organization rather than cut a great talent like him, what he did just seems like an anger provoked power trip.

  58. This guy says:

As tastless as it was I think being cut was a bit extreme. Although; In this stage of the UFC’s up and coming, Dana might feel this is a very bad time to be saying shit like this too. It makes the UFC look bad to the idiots of whom minds we are trying to soften to the sport so I can see the frustration on UFC’s end.

  59. jesus barrientos says:

fighters are fighters not politician, cut EVENS FOR HIS COMMENT ON PENN STATE!! hate to say it but UFC is becoming a joke like WWE!! come on dana forreal!!

  60. ThaGreenBandit says:

    Just like that?! Wow…

  61. Ninjaman says:

UFC is on Fox and will be put into public light even more than ever before. Dana is making sure that the image of the company that is carried on what fighters say and do remains tasteful and respectful for the most part. I agree with Dana White!

  62. A.James says:

You can take steroids putting your health and everyone else’s health at risk but don’t you dare make a bad joke on twitter!

  63. Ruckus says:

Dana White is wrong on this one. Miguel did not deserve to get cut for this. It would appear Dana is a hypocrite since other fighters have said worse things in public before and have had zero repercussions. He was just looking to make an example out of someone but he picked wrong. Miguel is a stand up guy and we all know Dana is a tool. Stupid decision by Dana.

  64. joey says:

Really Dana your fucking lame his Twitter account Is none of your business you promote fights if Brock would have said that he would still be in

  65. James Wolfe says:

“If a rape van was called a surprise van more women wouldn’t mind going for rides in them. Everyone likes surprises.”

Of course it was a joke Dana, wake up man!!! You destroy a mans career, his life, his job because of a bad joke…so what, grow up man. Re instate him immediately, this is not cool at all. You have to much power Dana and you are abusing it. This is crossing the line!!!

  66. Zack says:

Hey Dana fuck you! That’s why I watch all the pay per views for free you greedy fuck. But seriously twitter and Facebook is personal. Dana just wants to run his fighters life and that’s why the UFC wont last long. It will end up like boxing, a complete fucking joke

  67. mmafan says:

Dana is doing what he has to do…don’t worry, Miguel will be back.

  68. Zack says:

Everyone tweet this penis head lookin fucker and let him know he’s a cock sucker

  69. jason says:

that does not seem like a good reason to cut some one from the UFC at all!

  70. Justin says:

I think he should have been cut when he started making stupid comments about fighting safe now and not doing what got him where he is in the first place. He was happy with his performance in his first UFC fight. That fight was one of the worst fights I have ever seen.

  71. Aaron says:

Dude WHY ARE WE SUCH PUSSIES NOW A DAYS! Jesus Christ he popped a joke about rape.. don’t fucking fire him. Miguel is a beast dude I can’t believe this dumb shit.

  72. TheJoeGreene says:

If Chael Sonnen gets fired then, and only then, can Dana White claim a moral high ground and make moves like this. What a hypocritical piece of trash.

  73. Fuk Dana white says:

I said once and I’ll say it again fcuk Dana white.

  74. M0JADO says:

It is in the wrong because although it may offend some he is around a lot of young people and that is humor in my generation. Sure he should keep a high image but I think maybe a penalty at most not termination.
