UFC NEWS | Mendes Vs Guida Official For UFC On FOX 7
With the recent news that Manny Gamburyan was not going to compete at UFC 157 against fellow featherweight, and former title challenger, Chad “Money” Mendes (13-1) due to injury, the UFC was unable to find a replacement to step up against Mendes with under 2 weeks’ notice. Now the promotion has moved Mendes to the UFC on Fox 7 card, and he is set to face off against Clay “The Carpenter” Guida (30-13) on April 20th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
Since coming up short via first round KO at the hands, or knee, of champion Jose Aldo, Mendes has put together two impressive KO victories over Cody McKenzie and Yaotzin Meza. Mendes looks to make it a third against Guida, and stake his claim for another shot at Aldo. “The Carpenter” on the other hand looks to get his second win at featherweight following his recent split decision victory over Hatsu Hioki last month. Before dropping down a weight class, Guida suffered a split decision loss to lightweight stand-out Gray Maynard. Both men bring a fast pace and great wrestling in what should be a war of attrition.
Mendes vs. Guida is rumored to possibly be included on the four-fight main card, airing on FOX. The headliner being a lightweight title showdown between reigning champ Benson Henderson, and former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez. The co-main event features a heavyweight clash as former champion Frank Mir welcomes Strikeforce standout, Daniel Cormier. Other official fights slated for UFC on FOX 7 include a lightweight scrap with Nate Diaz squaring up with Josh “The Punk” Thompson, and a welterweight fight between Matt “The Immortal” Brown and Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy.

Great news to hear especially for Mendes!!! Mendes always brings the 1st round knockouts and his wrestling skills should be able to keep Guida and his bullshit at bay.
this should be an amazing fight! do not let the strategy of guida’s last fight detour you from believing anything other then the potential awesomeness of this fight. good luck gentlemen
GET EM’ CLAY!
I like Guida and cheered for him at his last fight, but I really hope his next performance is better. Seven split decisions in his career. SEVEN. That’s the worst ending to a fight outside of an eyepoke/cut.
If by some chance Guida reads this I have only one thing to say to you: your mom’s hot. Alright 2 things: don’t do a takedown in the last 10 seconds of the fight.
