UFC NEWS – Lamas Steps In For Koch Against Poirier At UFC 143

As we announced yesterday afternoon, Erik Koch was forced to withdraw from his scheduled UFC 143 bout against Dustin Poirier due to an injury suffered during training.
The UFC promised a replacement and UFC president Dana White announced early this morning that one has been booked.
Rising 145 pound fighter, Ricardo Lamas has agreed to step opposite Poirier on the Super Bowl weekend fight card.
“Lamas is coming off a knockout victory followed by a Submission of The Night’ win in his last two spectacular outings; while Poirier is a highly-touted power-punching prospect looking to make his case for a host at the title” said White.
UFC 143 is set to take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Super Bowl weekend. Georges St. Pierre was originally scheduled to headline the event against the newest title challenger Nick Diaz, however an injury forced him off the card and Diaz will now face Carlos Condit for the UFC’s interim welterweight title.
Koch made his UFC debut back at UFC 128 with a first-round knockout of Rafael Assuncao that put the rest of the division on notice. He then went on to outpoint Jonathan Brookins at UFC Fight Night 25 in his last UFC performance.
Lamas last saw action on the UFC on FOX 1 fight card in an impressive performance over Cub Swanson. The win marked his 11th win in 13 pro fights.
