UFC NEWS – José Aldo Seeks Maynard’s Help to Bully Mendes
Knowing Chad Mendes undefeated record stems primarily from his elite wrestling background, UFC Featherweight Champion José Aldo has sought out the aid of top lightweight Gray Maynard in preparation for UFC 142 in January of 2012.
Although Mendes received All-American and Pac-10 Wrestler of the Year honors in College, Gray “The Bully” Maynard is no slouch either when it comes to wrestling. Aldo hopes to receive the experience of a wrestler whose collegiate wrestling accolades include being a three time All-American and 11th all-time in Michigan State University’s wrestling records. The help of sparring with a heavier, more experienced training partner, will undoubtedly prepare the already talented Jose Aldo in takedown defense and ground transitioning.
“We have a big interest in bringing Maynard to train with me. “He has such strong wrestling (base) and we want people that (have) the same game Chad Mendes does. Mendes is a competitive and hard guy to fight. Me and Maynard have been in touch since UFC 136, and he also said it’s his will to train with us at Nova Uniao, but nothing is confirmed thus far, especially because of the Thanksgiving holiday. I’m waiting for the answer.”
Even though he is waiting in the wings for Maynard to accept his invitation, the humble Aldo knows that at fight time, it is anyone’s game.
“Each fighter has a special value and I don’t say that someone is better than the other…It depends on the day and the condition of the fighter. It’s hard to say someone is better than someone.”
Jose Aldo hopes to remain champion come January 14th, where he will finally make his debut as the main event in Rio de Janiero, Brazil’s HSBC Arena.
“I’ve been asking Dana White and he promised me a main event. The time has come and nothing is better to be here in Brazil, where I was born and raised. I’m really looking forward to this day.”

It was intentional..Sonnen was busy with his usual trash talking about BJJ and the Nogueira gym, So Silva wanted to toy with Sonnen, and then submit him. What better moment than in the last minute?
Total agreement. Silva set Chael up for that triangle for about 3 rounds. Anyone see the vicious strait right Sonnen was hit with (with Anderson on his back) about 1 minute before the T was cinched. As soon a Anderson knew Chael was thinking he had won… KABOOM! Silva LIVES this shit and is waaaay smarter than most humans on the planet. Read some books and open your mind people. True Martial Arts take as much brain power as physical conditioning. Teaching numbskull brawlers REAL Martial Arts is like teaching a dog physics, not gonna happen. Read Mushashi’s ‘The Book of Five Rings” or Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War”. Most ‘fighters’ will find out they really don’t know dick…… The mind is the best weapon you can carry.
Finishing Chael in the first 60 seconds would have been a bigger statement then getting the submitted in the last 60 seconds. As a champ he dug deep and pulled out the win. Nothing more nothing less.
Aldo’s got some good TTD,Mendes is gonna have to eat something to secure a takedown,this fight is gonna be a chess game. Still rootin for Mendes.

I don’t think it takes a genious to know Mendes entire gameplan vs Aldo. HELLO!!!!! its called “FITCHING” same exact thing that got Mendes his 12 wins and Jon Fitch 99.99999% of his wins. For the newbies “FITCHING” is not wrestling. Most wrestlers use their base to take people down GNP or set up submissions or go for the finish. “Fitching” is is grabbing a leg and wrapping yur entire body around that leg laying on your opponent doing as little as possible then using fake pitter patter just enough to keep from getting stood up and run out the clock via stalling the entire fight. UFC needs to bring back Pride rules so we cal all enjoy getting what we pay for “REAL FIGHTING” Hendersen/Shogun, BJ/Diego, To this day the best display of offensive BJJ was Rocha vs Ellenberger and Maia vs Sonnen. Mendes and Jon fitch are a complete discrace to all MMA. both will be released by next year IMO

Freakin’ annoys me when people rant over and over how Sonnen had Silva beat in their fight, he cheated thats why he could keep the pace. Without the steroids he’ll get owned like everyone else.
I am not a fan of sonnen’s but stop spreading misinformation. He didn’t get “busted” for “cheating”, he got in trouble because he failed to fill out the proper medical clearance forms. He is on TRT which CSAC knew about prior to the fight with Silva, since sonnen registered during the Okami fight which was in LA. Since he already ‘registered’ at that point he didn’t think he had to do it again. He even said to Dodd prior to the test, ‘hey you know that I’m going to have that testosterone show up on my test right?’ His test wasn’t “high” testosterone, it was synthroid. He was registered and allowed to use it during the Okami, Marquardt, and Stann fight. So what did he cheat to beat Stann too? Had you watched his hearing or paid attention to the details and facts of what was happening instead of the bro-banter you would know this. And if or when he does get a rematch with Silva you can guarantee that he will be using the same TRT as he did in the first fight.

He DID have a substantial higher level of testosterone, something which Dodd stated, he was very specific about it and emphasizing the levels weren’t ‘slightly’ higher, but substantially higher than normal.

The Sonnen nuthugger is so friggen stupid its embarressing. Sonnen was suapended for a YEAR for having an elavated testosterone level of 3400 which is not only un heard of but 6 times the maximum allowed with TRT. Sonnen had enough JUICE in him to jump over the friggen moon. The Freakoid bodybuilders you see in magazines have never tested higher than 2500 and they are on 5 different “ROIDS” to raise their testosterone levels. my doctor told me that he had never heard of someone ever testing that high and that he had to been shooting up massive amounts of testosterone DAILY to reach an insane number like 3400 which he said is outright “STEROID ABUSE” I read an article wriiten by a coach that is from Sonnens home town in Oregon that says Sonnen has been a KNOWN steroid abuser since he was in high school in the early 90′s. EVERYONE with half a brain knows Sonnen trains year round with elavated testosterone levels and he uses TRT for LEGAL juicing and always will just like Nate Marquardt was busted for.Nate was under microscope after supplying elavated samples and new jersey still let him fight but told him if he didn’t go toan endrocologist??/HORMONE DOCTOR and quit receiving high level testosterone injections from his “JUICE” doctor in Denver in which he blew off their orders showed up to the Story fight and tested well above 800 and admitted he had been given a shot the week before and Dana found out that he knew he was abusing TRT so added to the fact Marquardt had been busted before with ILLEGAL steroids in his system (DECA) in 2005 he was fired from the UFC. If UFC/athletic commisons had random testing Sonnen/ marquardt would be banned from the sport in no time at all. No other PRO sport allows TRT because of poeple like Sonnen/marquardt who abuse it.
kinda off subject, but Gray Maynard is in my town, Santa Cruz CA, during the Thanksgiving holiday. Cool dude. He looked like a local surfer. He’s thinking about leaving Las Vegas, and hopefully he’ll relocate to the California Central Coast. If he opens a gym in Santa Cruz, I’m sure there will be plenty of people lined up to join. Nothing like training for MMA to get in top shape.
