UFC NEWS – Jose Aldo: Mendes Is Basically Just a Younger Urijah Faber That I will Defeat

[box_light] “This will be my first time headlining at UFC. I’m very happy to be a part of this event. I’m anxious to hear the crowd screaming as I walk inside. I just can’t wait to feel that energy. About his speed, it won’t be a problem. He’s always been an explosive fighter, but I’m an explosive fighter as well. I’ve been training jiu-jitsu since I was a kid, so if we both hit the ground, I will be the one with the advantage.Chad’s style of fighting is very similar to (his coach and former Aldo challenger) Urijah Faber’s. The height, the wrestling, the way they move…they are very similar. Mendes is younger than Faber, but it’s basically the same type of fight for me. Mendes has got a disadvantage fighting me on his feet. He’s not as good a boxer as the other guys I have faced and I don’t think he can do well standing up in this fight. I will be looking for a knockout or a submission. I will defeat Chad Mendes.”[/box_light]
UFC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo talks about his headlining title fight against the division’s number one contender, Chad Mendes.
Having faced the mentor of Chad (Urijah Faber) and having beaten him in spectacular and brutal fashion, Aldo expects the same result this weekend in Rio.
However, Mendes has a more solid wrestling pedigree, a younger, thicker frame and is arguably more powerful than Aldo’s former opponent, Faber.
Will the champ taste defeat in front of his hometown crowd or is Mendes in for his first pro-loss?

I’m pretty sure Aldo is going to pick him apart like the “Mini-Me Urijah Faber” that Chad is…..I see devastating leg kicks and a submission to end the night. Maybe next time Chad……..maybe next time.
Got a feeling this is gonna be a big statement win for Aldo.
or we’ll hear about how he was fighting infections afterwards
Even if he is fighting infections, he will win. Brazilian win even in bad conditions.
luiz cane?
he dsnt count
Pretty sure I heard him announce he was sick before the hominick fight. Don’t know if Aldo said anything following the Florian bout, but Kenny’s made a few guys look less than stellar even in losing to them. He needs to have a good showing though, and I think Mendes will come right at him. Aldo should be able to tee off on the guy. Can’t wait either way.
I have never seen a Mendes fight. But if he is as energetic a wrestler as everyone says he is and half decent at stand-up, I see this fight going to a close decision.
i think aldo should try to outwrestle the wrestler, like bj did to fitch. advance postition and tap him out. these types are helpless on their backs.
Im looking forward to seeing Aldo become the monster he was in the past. I think he will really be looking for the finish in this one, being in his homeland. I really hope so!
Me too, the more casual UFC fans have not been treated to the Jose Aldo that fought in WEC. Hopefully he doesn’t let Mendes turn it into a hug fest.
