UFC NEWS – Gray Maynard: Aldo Is The Most Complete Fighter I have Worked With, Mendes Is Not Ready

[box_light]“I’ve talked to him backstage at the UFC’s and [the UFC 136] press conference in Houston. [He] really seemed like a humble, nice guy. So, I wanted to reach out to him to help… I knew he was good, but I had no idea he was as good as he is in every area. Really unbelievable, especially his takedown defense. That goes for all of Nova Uniao [Aldo's home gym] also. He’s really one of the most, if not the most complete fighter I’ve ever worked with. I think Mendes is a tough kid, but I think it’s too early for him to fight Jose Aldo.”[/box_light]
Talking to our pals over at MMAFighting.com, UFC lightweight fighter, Gray Maynard says that UFC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo is probably the most complete fighter he has ever worked with.
It has been well publicized at this point that “The Bully” went down to Brazil to help Jose prepare for his upcoming bout this weekend against Chad Mendes. But what’s surprising is how much Gray praises the smaller champ.
For having worked with fighters in the game the likes of BJ Penn, Randy Couture, Vitor Belfort and the host of talent at Xtreme Couture, to praise Aldo as the best is a huge compliment.
But on the other hand, Mendes has never lost even one-round in his professional Mixed Martial Arts career. Can he overcome the obstacles that Aldo presents or will this weekend’s main event just be another example of why Aldo is champ?

is it just the angle of the picture or is Aldo bigger than Gray? Anyone know what Aldo cuts down from? If he’s as big as he looks here I’d like to see him against some of the better talent at 155
Whatever Aldo walks around at it’s pushing the limit of how much weight he can cut for a fight. He had a really rough time making weight for 129 and has said previously that it’s just a matter of time before he has to move up to 155.
which means aldo might not have this W if it goes past first couple rounds
At one point the kid was cutting from 180, at least that what a bunch of Sherdogers were saying lol. Nah I think it was Unleashed where he was having a really hard cut and his camp something like 170-175.
I think Aldo and Gray walk at the same weight. Jose needs to move to 155 soon.
Yeah he cuts alot of weight, heard he walks around at around 175.
But gray cuts alot of weight too… so yeah that pic does look off
I think it’s the angle. Clearly Gray is standing further from the camera.
You are right, Aldo is closer so he looks bigger. Can’t wait to see him smash Mendes.
Thats true, but if u just look at gray, he looks smaller than normal, plus he walks around at up to 190. So he should be lookin big, esspecially given how long its been since he fought and hes not scheduald to fight any time soon i dont think
He heard he cuts a lot. I think he’s one of the best pound for pound guys in the world, I watched a lot of his fights before his UFC days and we definitely haven’t seen the best of him. He won’t get tested until he moves up to 155lb which IMO is the toughest weight category in the UFC.
Mendes talks the talk, but after a few of Aldo’s leg kicks he won’t even be able to walk the walk. I don’t understand why Mendes thinks he can win this, he must have seen what Aldo did to Faber…Faber was on crutches after the fight. He said it was like his legs got battered by a few baseball bats…
Tough to call this one. It boils down to who imposes their game plan first really. If Mendes starts back peddling, he’ll end up in the hospital! If Aldo can’t keep it standing, he might (I say might) get to taste the mat the duration of the fight. I got Mendes via split decision! TEAM PENN!!!!!
You make me laugh hahaha
Is not tought to call this one at all!!!
Aldo round 3 via KO
Scarface is gonna fck Mendes up..
