I honestly wasn’t impressed with Jones in this fight at all. The whole story of the fight was Jones kicking and clinching rampage due to his inability to land a significant punch or land a takedown. Rampage’s head movement was probably the most exciting thing about this bout aside from that rear naked choke Jon managed to sink in after 3 rounds. I don’t know if he was tentative because of Rampage’s power(although I think almost everybody Rampage has faced has feared his power) or he was just having an off night but I sure do hope he’s more prepared in the Machida fight.
Machida has better head movement than Rampage, and he’s also faster and more tactical. I think the key for Machida to take this fight is to attack those needle-like legs of Jones’. If he can slow him down (Machida is faster than jones, disagree? Watch some damn fights and you’ll know what I mean) that way he’ll take away his timing. Leaving him the perfect opportunity to execute.
machida’s flatfooted stance will leave him open to the leg kicks of Jones (just like in the Rua fight). For Machida to do ANYTHING to Jones, he has to get inside his reach. To do that, Machida has to MOVE FORWARD, something he has NEVER done.
Jones will stick and move, working his jab and leg kicks, keeping out of Machida’s range the entire fight.
Nah Jones was afraid. Most of the strikes he managed to land were strikes to the knees. Like @ Jason said, if he rushes forward he might have a chance. Leg kicks are a great idea but it might weaken his tdd which is why Rampage never threw a leg kick in that whole fight (based on memory).
This is going to be an interesting striking match but if Machida stays on the outside like he does normally he is going to lose. If he has poor tdd in this fight he will lose so… I hope he’s ready.
Boring fight. Jones is all lay and pray has he finished a fight in the UFC besides this one?. Jones is paper champ and hes all hype.

Jones is very boring! jones kicking rampage in the knees for most of the fight is not exciting! Rampage being submitted or “finished” doesnt make it a good fight!
Jones is a very boring fighter when you’re a person that has hated Jones from the very beginning. But for those who actually likes Jones and the skills that he brings to each and every fight, he’s the best damn fighter out there! That is all there is to it.
And if Jones was “boring” in the fight against Rampage, what do you say about the way Rampage fought that night? Exciting? Shogun? Bader? Mats? Same thing?
