UFC NEWS – Freddie Roach On Anderson Silva: He is the best boxer in MMA

“Right now, Anderson Silva [is the best pure boxer in MMA]. He’s had six pro fights in his home country. He knows how to measure distance and time really well. He’s a little ahead of the guys on that. But sometimes he only fights to his ability, you know? Or he fights as hard as he has to so sometimes he doesn’t take guys out when he probably can or should. He lets them last a little longer.”

Multi-time Boxing Coach of the Year, Freddie Roach, in a recent interview gives his opinion on who he thinks is the best boxer in MMA and he seems to favor the pound for pound king, Anderson Silva.

While the middleweight champion is much more than a boxer, Roach seems convinced that his use of footwork, distance and accuracy amongst other talents puts him head and shoulders above the rest.

To Roach’s credit he trains and has trained some of the very best boxers in history as well as spent time with MMA fighters the likes of BJ Penn, Georges St Pierre and Anderson Silva.

Anyone care to argue against the opinion of one of the greatest trainers alive today?

cant diaggree…he proves he’s the best every time he fights.

  2. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Diaz apparently isn’t a great boxer… I’ve been saying this for a while.

    • wigler420 says:

i remember roach saying penn was the best boxer in mma,, diaz outboxes him and now he says silva is the best boxer, awesome

      • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

His cardio won’t allow him to be the best boxer in MMA. A BJ Penn with excellent cardio can beat Frankie or Diaz any day.

        • Dannyboy4455 says:

I hate to say it, but it BJ Penns cardio was good, I think he would not only be the best boxer in MMA, but the GOAT. I know this is a BJ Penn site, and I am not disrespecting, but I get the feeling that we missed out on the person who could have been the Michael Jordan of MMA. No one can touch BJ in the first round (He took apart Diaz, Fitch, and even GSP in their first fight in the first rouind). It suckes to wonder what might have been.

Oh well, even his 50% effort is still Hall of Fame worthy, which is impressive in itself.

      • Ryan says:

Go back to the vids, he mentions best hands but not boxing

      • Mircfsc says:

Wigler: Diaz did not out box him..Penn just gassed/gave out. Watch the first round. Just sucks that he hasn’t remedied his cardio :( That fight would have been amazing if he could throw back.

    • dan Dondo says:

@ninja you have to be the biggest idiot chode punk rookie biotch to think diaz isnt a great boxer….

  3. Chris says:

Apparently Silva let Sonnen last that entire fight. I call bullshit cause they stood up and boxed and did Silva do anything damaging to Sonnen in the stand up? No he did not. Everyone else yeah sure he destroyed them. But with Sonnen I think not. But here come the Silva nuthuggers who are gonna say his ribs were hurt n that’s the only reason he didn’t finish Sonnen earlier.

    • baldy says:

i knew it was just a matter of time…
speaking of nut huggers….here comes choke sonnen’s little fan club…chael beat him up for 4 1/2 rounds…not 5…4 1/2. tell yer daddy to A. learn some bjj defense B. instead of layin and prayin and tryin to eak out a decision….FINISH FIGHTS! C. untill he can either of the afformentioned SHUT THE HELL UP.
sonnen is no where near silva’s level in any asspect of mma except wrestling. so just stop.

    • Alotofchugu says:

Bro u ever fought with a fucked up rib?!?! Or even just breath with a fucked up rib… Sorry just stop you sound like an idiot just like chael obviously u gargle his nuts…

  4. AJR80 says:

Hmm I thought he said BJ Penn was the best boxer in MMA???, he seems to change his mind EVERY week. IMO there’s NO DOUBT who is the best Boxer, that’s JDS.

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Tony Fergusson is a great boxer in MMA too.

      • Mayor of Deviance says:

Can you get off Tony Fergusson’s dick for a second? The guy has power but he’s slow as hell.

Silva has power, speed, head movement and footwork all heads and shoulders above the rest and has had the time and experience to prove it.

        • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

I wrote that hrs ago you tool. No one is doubting Silva’s talent, so bring something new to the table instead of regurgitated shit from your peers.

  5. KingGareth says:

F.Roach says this about a lot of MMA fighters…

  6. Brendan says:

Really anderson is a counter puncher every fight he waits an capitilizes on his opponents mistakes or inability to keep up with his speed footwork head movement the only way to beat anderson is constant pressure from the get go dirty boxing and takedowns like sonnen did take the fight to him and he has no time to counter and adjust then hell make mistakes a great wrestler and boxer would own him gsp or machida or jon jones would beat him cause they always have a great gameplan

  7. bizzle says:

It is between Anderson and JDS

  8. jp608 says:

Freddie Roach said bj had the best boxing in the “LIGHTWEIGHT” division, not mma.
