UFC NEWS – Demian Maia Now Faces Chris Weidman On FOX 2 Card

With Munoz injured and Bisping taking the call to face Chael Sonnen on short notice, Demian Maia, who was originally scheduled to face “The Count” on the same evening was left without an opponent.
Upon hearing the news Maia stated, “Unfortunately my fight versus Bisping is not gonna happen. I am very sad cause it would be a very important fight for me.”
UFC officials have at this point in time booked a replacement opponent for Maia and it comes in the form of the undefeated Chris Weidman.
In the main event, Phil Davis will square off with Rashad Evans for the number one contender seat in the UFC’s light-heavyweight division ruled over by Jon Jones. The co-feature of the evening is a middleweight number one contender bout between Michael Bisping and Chael Sonnen.
Weidman is a Matt Serra trained fighter who made his UFC debut at UFC on Versus 3 as a late replacement against Alessio Sakara. After beating Sakara he went on to submit Jesse Bongfeldt at UFC 131 and earned “Submission of the Night” in the process. The two-time D1 All-American Wrestler is one of the hottest prospects currently fighting in the UFC’s middleweight division. He last saw action at UFC 139 submitting Tom Lawlor in the very first frame of action.
Maia last saw the inside of the Octagon in his UFC 136 victory over Jorge Santiago. The Santiago victory bounced him back from his prior defeat at the hands of Mark Munoz. The former number one contender has notched three wins in his last four bouts.

Good match on paper
Chris Weidman deserves this shot at Demian Maia!
Weidmans a good young prospect but hes not ready for Maia. Damian will make him look like a fool.
I don’t know, Maia hasn’t finished anyone since ’09 at that was Chael, looks like Weidman has some good jits and strong wrestling so hopefully it will be closer than you think. I agree it’s a big step up for chris.
Boring…Oh Well, I’ll be happy to watch Sonnen steam roll spitsping
I like Munoz, but Bisping vs Sonnen is a dream come true… no matter who you are you want to see both of those guys get their asses kicked
+1
I actually don’t want to see Chael get beat up. I would love to see Chael go in and blast Bisping with a takedown and then proceed to take Bisping’s will to fight by not letting him back to his feet. Chael by rear naked in round 2. Same way he finished Brian Stann. Oh, and let the trash talking begin.
chael did not rnc brian stann..
It was an arm triangle choke. He’ll RNC Bisping..
