UFC NEWS – Dan Henderson Wants Jon Jones After Shogun Fight This Weekend
“I actually would have rather been in a fight for the title, but this fight excites me too. Shogun’s a tough guy, and it’s gonna be a big challenge… I’m not going to try extra hard to knock him out just to get a title shot. I’m going out there first and foremost to win the fight, and obviously try to finish him along the way… I do think that [Jon Jones] would be a fight I would enjoy. He’s awkward and unorthodox and it creates something to think about and how to beat that, and that’s what excites me these days. Guys that are a big challenge, and he would be more cause he’s awkward and dangerous at the same time, but I think he matches up really well with me style wise… I’m not one to buy into things too quickly. I’ve been doing this for a long time and seen a lot of guys beat a lot of tough guys really quick and then die out.”
Former Pride and Strikeforce champion tells mmaweekly.com radio that he is ready to take out Shogun this weekend in route to an eventual title shit with the winner of next month’s Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida fight.
And where is Rashad Evans in all this talk? Apparently it is now Dan Henderson inline for the title if he can get past Shogun Rua this weekend, as it should be. Coming in as the Strikeforce champion does have its advantages.
…but can Hendo get past Rua or is all this talk of title unifications pointless?

Shogun vs Hendo is a toss up, that fight could play out differently 100 times.
I have Dan by TKO though…I know he wants Jones after, but cant we set up Henderson vs Evans first? Just for shits and giggles? Rashad doing his best impression of his face against Machida is long over due.
If Hendo beats Shogun he definitely deserves his shot. Would be a great match up, to see how Jones deals with a great wrestler like Hendo. I’d still give Jones the edge because of his reach power advantage but if Hendo connects with a big right hand it could easily be lights out.

I hope Dan hits rashad so hard he shits his pants maybe bisbing can help clean him up I would really like to see Dan be the light heavy champ for a little while it would be a great finish to his bad ass career
It may be that Hendo is my favorite fighter, but i will never count the guy out, i believe hes going to win by tko in the 3rd with Shogun. If he gets Bones next that would be great, i think Hendo has a decent chance, he has a hell of a chin, great wrestling and strength, and a ton of power in both hands. Makes him dangerous to anyone in the cage to him. I think Rashad deserves a shot, but hope they have Hendo get it first since hes closer to the end of his career and the guy is on a hell of a tear right now.

At this point in his career, he couldn’t take Jones. This is coming from a huge fan, but even with is granite chin and freakish punching power, all it would take is a single takedown from Jones to end the fight. Hendo has nothing off his back, which is why he lost to shields, and Jones has ground and pound that could wound a god, and a decent submission game. Not to mention the range, his legs would be getting kicked out from the first bell. I realize Jones is cocky as hell, and his ego makes it hard to be acknowledge his greatness, but he isn’t going anywhere. He is too athletic, too intelligent, and his skillset is too versatile for him to be losing anytime soon.
