UFC NEWS – Cerrone Not A Fan Of Nate Diaz: Recounts Locker Room Altercation
”… I go over and introduce myself and go, ‘What’s up Nate? I’m ‘Cowboy,’ He fu**in’ slapped my hand away and called me a punk-ass motherfu**er and told me to ‘get on.’ I was like, ‘Sh*t, alright.’ I don’t know what to say to the dude. I don’t know what his point… I guess he doesn’t want to be cordial. He just wanted to be a punk and… go ahead… I was getting ready to fight Dennis Siver and then he walked away. He just took off after that. It kind of caught me by surprise. I don’t know anything about the guy. I just know that [he and Nick] just wake up pissed off all the time for no reason. It just seems like they’re always mad. Whatever he does to get his mind ready for the fight, it must be it… If you want to talk sh*t to me, you’re just gonna enrage me and piss me off. So feed my fu**ing flame. That’s what I say. Let’s go!”
A recent guest on ESPN Radio with Steve Cofield, Donald Cerrone tells a story of when he first met Nate Diaz backstage at UFC 137 just a few months ago.
Now, they meet in the Octagon at UFC 141 one week from today and Cerrone says, Nate’s bad attitude only adds fuel to his already burning fire.
It should come as no surprise that “a Diaz Brother” behaved in this manner, truth is, Nate is a really cool guy, he just is not out to make any friends with anyone he thinks he may have to fight and brings that same kind of “Stockton heat” his brother carries on his shoulder everywhere he goes.
Is Cerrone the wrong guy to pull that card with or will Diaz show “Cowboy” how they do it in Cali?

Some guys have to get more of a “hate on” as part of their pre-fight preparation with an opponent. So be it. Either way, it’s not going to help Nate. He is going to lose. Cerrone’s stand-up is too sharp for him, although they both have a great ground game. Although I think they are even in ground skills, Cerrone is the physically stronger guy which will give him the win. Nate will make a good gate-keeper LW.
I agree with you about Cerrone being physically stronger. I like Nate, but I see him getting bullied by the Cowboy, who also has more of a variety of strikes that he uses. I see this as an exciting fight, but a loss for Diaz
Yeah, I think they are matched enough for it to be an exciting fight. I’m sure Diaz will have some good moments with his boxing.

come on. this is the fight game. this isn’t the dating game. plenty of fighters have the same mentality: destroy the opponent. to get into that mind frame is different for everyone. some folks have the competitive, athletic, respectful approach. others have a more negative angle that may be due to environment, or simply to perform with angry and aggressive emotion. some say to leave emotion out of it, but it can be powerful. any way you slice it, fighters shouldn’t take anything too personally. diaz fights with fire, and he may be drawing cowboy into his fight. since diaz normally operates this way, he is at the advantage. cowboy getting emotional might be just was diaz wanted. don’t let your emotions cloud your mindset.

Both Diaz brothers have shown their true colors recently and it’s a shame because they obviously have huge talent. I hope COWBOY puts a nice beating on this punk but I’m sure it still won’t shut Nate up. I would be ashamed to be affiliated with the Diaz brothers in any way (coaches and team members). All the comments suggest that everybody thinks this happened after they were already scheduled to fight.
That’s true. Well, the video on UFC.com is a bit misleading. Cerrone says Nate did it before “this fight”, which if you watch it post UFC 137, you think he’s referring to their upcoming match. But I guess that was recorded just before UFC 137, when Cerrone fought Siver.
Don’t believe I’ve seen the video, but I don’t see the video being linked here. And as I pointed-out, the very article shows it happened before they were scheduled. It seems a lot of people commenting aren’t actually paying attention to what the article says, like they’re just reading the headline. Which, granted, happens a lot, but I was surprised NOBODY seemed to notice it.

I read the quotation, but because of the video I saw I didn’t budge from my original thought. But below that, it is clear that it happened pre-fight UFC 137. However, it reflects on Nate even more poorly when they weren’t set to fight. I guess he just knew it was likely since they are both top 10 LW guys.

get the word boxing out your mouth because they dont have the best boxing but they have some of the most skilled striking with there hands and thats just only one aspect of the sport of boxing and it takes a whole lot more to be good at boxing
