UFC NEWS – Bas Rutten Says JDS Will Take Out The “Glass Jawed” Overeem

“I think Alistair, everything he does is one single shot because he knows he’s got that glass jaw as well. He’s been knocked out quite a few times in the past, even by Chuck Liddell as well. Every time when he punches, one hand is up. He throws single shots; he doesn’t throw combinations. You saw that when he fought [Fabricio] Werdum. Werdum was actually tagging him more than he did to Werdum. I think that Junior dos Santos, with his combinations, his reach, I think he’s going to tag him and he’s going to throw combos and I think that yeah, he’s going to take this fight.”

MMA Legend, commentator and Inside MMA host, Bas Rutten takes an awfully personal dig at the UFC’s latest heavyweight star, Alistair Overeem.

Having trained the Reem and with a close personal relationship with The Golden Glory camp, Bas is pretty harsh on the UFC’s number one heavyweight contender.

Has he picked his side in regards to the Overeem vs. Golden Glory legal battle and decided to make it personal or is this just his unbiased opinion on the yet to be announced heavyweight title fight coming soon?

  1. Xaninho says:

This is very disappointing biased bullshit by Bas Rutten. All because his buddies @ GG can’t get their hands on the paycheck.

Overeem doesn’t have a glassjaw. He only lost 5 fights out of over 45 by (T)KO. All in 205 division after horrible weight cuts. Rutten should know this too so it’s obvious he’s butthurt.

    • Hostile Hunter says:

Bas is a *****…Plain and Simple talking shit about a old friend like that is a bitch move…The guy talks so much shit i can smell his nasty breath thru my Computer Screen. Bas needs to file for Social Security and move into a old-age home…Old fuck needs to be put in his place and thats where it is…

      • jacob lee says:

must feel tough talking trash about an mma legend over the computer!

      • Jujitsu Player says:

Ok tough guy, just piss all over an MMA legend and one time HW UFC champion why don’t you. So you watch a few UFC’s and get on Sherdog and BJ Penn.com and suddenly you know more than someone who has been there and done it…..I bet you’re one of those fans who thinks he could get in there and mix it up with the fighters, are you going to put Bas Rutten in his place? from behind your computer screen lol…yeah good one…..Bas might be biased and maybe a little bitter because the way REEM treated his friends over new contracts when he realized he was going to make big money with the UFC BUT what he says is true; Dos Santos has great hands and power and he will definitely land punches and probably knock REEM out. We could debate all day but we won’t know until they meet but that’s my opinion.

  2. SteroidR4Losers says:

I don’t really understand their beef?
Can somebody explain me what the hell happened to them?
Btw I’m on Reem’s side. I’m not gonna defend an early retired bum who talks shit when he doesn’t get his paycheck.

    • jacob lee says:

Dude Bas Rutten basically retired on top. he was still really good and still is really good. But yeah I dont understand their beef, cuz they used to be buddies. I really don’t care who wins but I would like to see JDS and Overeem go to the ground cuz I think JDS has a distinctive advantage, but Overeem has takedown defense……..Anybody still think BAs is one of the tuffest guys on the planet? I think he and couture are alot alike only Bas is more well rounded.

  3. Thegoodstuff says:

Overeem owes GG money. It is what it is, look up El Guapo’s side of the story.

I must say that I agree with Bas. As long as JDS can stay out of the clinch and avoid the knees to the body he should be fine, and Cigano has always been good at staying on the outside and finding his range.

Bas may be a bit biased but he knows Alistair’s style better than anybody.

    • Xaninho says:

JDS doesn’t check the legkicks as well as he should.

And Bas only knows what his buddies @ GG told him. He wasn’t present when the contracts were signed nor was he present at the negotiations about the contract. So basically he doesn’t have his side of the story, just GG’s…

  4. pat says:

Lol at people shitting on the legend Bas Rutten. He is 100 percent right about reem, who is still one of the most dangerous fighters in the division. After jds overwhelms reem with his hands, exactly as has been suggested by bas you can send your apologies to @basruttenmma. Fucking douche hammers. I garentee people shitting on rutten have seen 1 reem fight, the one agaisnst “shell-of-former-self Lesnar”

  5. Daniel R says:

i think the “glass jaw” comment was a cheap shot but hes right about Werdum tagging him. Brock basically didnt want to fight so it’ll be interesting to see how he does deal with JDS’s hands

  6. Jb says:

I’m gonna have to agree that JDS boxing will make the difference bit I wouldn’t say Reems jaw is totally out of question. He’s also taken big shots and ate them. We will see. I really think it matters how well jds rehab goes

  7. TheRealDealVIP says:

i dont think this is a cheap shot at all…its just his honest opinion….and i share it…seriously i see both men landing big shots!! but history has showed us that only one man can take that big shot….one man will fall and it wont be JDS…

  8. Schalk says:

Bas is such a wanker, if anyone has a glass jaw it is Bas, maybe he is upset because he is old and fucked up. The Reem has anything but a glass jaw, as his record shows

    • Patrick says:

“If anyone has a glass jaw it’s Bas”? The fuck are you smoking? How many times has Bas ever been knocked out? I’ll answer that for you. 0. Nada. Never. So try again.

  9. slacker says:

Yeah, this is just a dumb analysis. Six knock-outs out of 48 fights for a ratio of 1 out of every 8 fights. That’s not a glass jaw. Not to mention 3 of them were K-1, where it’s standing 100% of the time; actually, his record is pretty impressive! If Werdum was tagging him so much, why didn’t he KO his “glass jaw”!? It’s a complete contradiction.

  10. C'mon Bas! says:

I am disappointed by Bas comment. Although it is 100% accurate as usual. But Overeem used to be his friend! He always included him in his classment of top 10 Heavy weight.
Oh I understand, he felt betrayed by Overeem’s departure from Golden Glory.
OK Bassito, you’re the man anyway :)

  11. Thetude says:

HAHA look at the reemster, he looks like a chariture of himself

  12. Chartmonster says:

Legal battles over money makes u say the damnedest things doesn’t it? You and GG will get your money ass rotten. When Reem kicks Jds’s ass you’ll eat your words!

  13. Dom#1 says:

Are you kidding me. Bas retired on a 22 fight win streak, he was the best.. He lost 4 fights early in his career and blew up from then. He suffered injuries and decided he wanted to be with his family. At that time the money in mma was shit so why continue to ruin urself where there is no pay.. He woulda retired before it went mainstream anyways.
~As for Overeem… Overhyped, No chin bitch…. How do u go from middle/lightheavy to heavyweight in 2 years with multiple fights (cutting weight)… Overroid is his proper name.

    • Xaninho says:

Dom…in Dutch your name “Dom” literally means stupid. And that’s what you are…You don’t know shit, Overeem starved himself to get his weight down to 205. He’s 6’5″, naturally a big guy and not a natural 205 at all.

You’re just copying other peoples dumb comments about his ‘weak’ chin. Really? 6 (T)KO’s losses in over 45 fights? The great Randy Couture suffered 6(T)KO losses in just 30 fights..

Now all of you mindless people get your facts straight before spreading nonsense about weak chins.

      • Dom#1 says:

Im glad im not dutch then =) and no he is not naturally big he never fought at heavy 3 fights before he went to strikeforce he won 2 and lost 1. He is cutting weight now to keep in outta super heavyweight. So hop over overoids **** because hes terrible and werdum out struck him in their last bout. Overoid should have lost. He should have been DQ’d in the rogers fight for 11 illegal blows to the back of the head. For a professional fighter how come this dude can roid and not follow rules?!

Btw your a dick sucker =)

        • Xaninho says:

Yes he’s a natural big guy, he’s been fighting from a very young age and as I said before( can you read first before commenting?) he would have grown to HW, but starved himself to keep his weight down.

Werdum trying to outstrike him from his back was what he was doing, the dude was laying on the ground begging Overeem, who fought with a broken rib and toe, to come down..

Apparently nobody but you saw 11 illegal blows , the fight should have been stopped earlier cause Rogers wasn’t defending himself intelligently anyway.

Don’t include me in your gay fantasies please.

        • Breno says:

If you actually think that Overeem didnt do any steroids, dude you are a dreamer.

Even if he starved to the death, no human could do it. He did steroids for sure!

        • Xaninho says:

Breno, I’m guessing you haven’t been doing any serious weight training?

It’s just an average of 1 lbs a month from 205 up. I’m not anywhere near his size, but I went from 172 to 192 in 5 months. And with nothing more than work-ethic and proper nutrition. So don’t tell me he needed steroids to go from around 225 to 260-265 in 5 years.

        • Jujitsu Player says:

By natural big guy you mean steroid abuser/juice head right?!? Nobody can take the athletic physique he had as a LWH and develop this kind of muscle mass without roids or GHG.

    • Bas Rutten Wants Money! Money! Money! says:

Bottom line is, Bas Rutten’s gay lovers on golden glory ain’t getting paid so he’s talking crap now.
And for Overeem, I think he shouldn’t be selfish and just pay the god damn money!
Damn! People these days are just fucking desperate for money.
I hope both of them will fight each other someday, then knock each other out, then get their knockout bonuses, then squash the beef and get over it.
      Greedy dutchmens….

    • A..G 206 says:

Actually bas retired because he had knee problems, you can hear it all on joe rogan podcast with bas, theres alot of cool stuff there, also jds will KTFO Reetard. Bas ur still the man.

  14. Thom says:

Why bash Bas? The most badass man alive? Get real haters he’s just sharing his opinion.

  15. davee says:

bas is right really….shogun ko him cold…threw the gaurd…chuck also…if you had tuff wweight cut that effects your performence not you chin nut huggers…he could not take punches at 205 there no way he can at HW,,,,im cheering for reem and am a big fan of him,,,but i agree with bas..he has glass jaw and jds will put him to sleep….reem is in top 5 hw but not the best

    • Xaninho says:

6 (T)KO losses in 47 fights? Glass jaw? You’re talking about KO specialists who KO’d him and tough weightcuts DO affect the KO resistance. The brain basically ‘floats’ in fluid. Some of the same fluid he excessively drained by dehydration to make weight…

      • bert says:

        “You’re talking about KO specialists….”

And JDS isn’t a KO specialist?

Now who isn’t getting their facts right?

        • Shawn says:

I would consider a JDS a KO specialist. He’s got some serious power in his hands. However, considering that he went the distance with Nelson (albeit, Nelson has a thick skull lol), and Carwin (who Lesnar beat up, who in turn got beat up by Overeem), and his KO of Valasquez was due to him punching the temple, not the chin (ANYONE, even guys with granite chins, who gets punched in the side of the head with that much force WILL go out). This will be his toughest test to date. This is the your classic case of whoever lands the first solid punch (or hit to the temple ;-)) will win the fight. But…let’s also not forget that JDS has some jitz skills under the Nogeiras’, and Overeem has actually won more fights by submission. This can easily be won by a submission as well.

        • Xaninho says:

I’ve said time and time again JDS has serious KO power…
The subject is whether Overeem has a glass jaw or not.

What I mean is being taken out by a KO specialist doesn’t mean you have a glass jaw.

        • Shawn says:

It most certainly does not. I agree. As for Overeem having a glass jaw…I would have to say not. I’ve seen him get hit flushed in K-1 bouts, and some MMA fights. Took it like a champ. Not to say he can’t be KO’d though. Same goes for JDS.

    • Shawn says:

“Glass jaw”? You need to watch more of his fights after his loss to Kharitonov. Overeems losses were over 5 years ago. Even Anderson Silva’s losses were over 5 years ago. People change, they get better as Overeem has. Go check his fights out, then come back tell us if Overeem has a glass jaw or not. lol That’s including the K-1 fights. Basing your comments on what you’ve seen since MMA went mainstream (the last 4 years) doesn’t make you a true fight fan. Basing your comments on your own experience having trained for a long time, watching not only UFC, but all other MMA, K-1 and Muay Thai matches over the last 10 years and longer, would make your comments more viable. True fight fans base their opinions on analytical observation, and not on favoritism.

      • A..G 206 says:

yeah but he hasnt fought anyone with talent in over 5 years last time he did he got Knocked Out, which will happen again. end of story

        • Shawn says:

Really? “Hasn’t fought anyone with talent in over 5 years?” Ummm…Lesnar (no one can say this guy doesn’t have talent, to do what he did in a short period of time and who he’s beaten), Werdum, Rogers (yes Rogers, you can’t take away from this guy), Sylvester, Cro Cop (even though that was a NC, he was taking it to him), Hunt, Buentello. Just keep in mind we are talking about these guys when they fought him. These guys were smoking people back then. You need to watch more fights from the past. If you believe that Overeem has never fought any talent since his lost to Kharitonov, then you can also say neither has JDS. JDS has fought Werdum (so has Overeem), Cro Cop (same with Reem), Nelson (who lost to Mir, who was beat by Lesnar, who was beat by Overeem), same goes with Carwin. The last guy JDS beat was Valazquez. Not taking anything away from that win, but what do you think would have happened if he didn’t connect to the side of the head (which will take ANYONE out)? Exactly. End of story? It’s just the beginning for these guys. lol Educate yourself, don’t talk out your ass.

      • A..G 206 says:

07 last loss and his last real opponent

        • Shawn says:

lol! “Real opponent”. Kharitonov isn’t bad…back in his hey day. But to say he’s the ONLY “real opponent” Overeem has had in the last 5 years, is an insult to other decent fighters I mentioned above. Get off the bandwagon and educate yourself.

  16. cody says:

you know u dont have to lose by ko to have a glass jaw alot of overreems sub loses were because of knock downs and ive seen him get rocked dozens of times in k1 look at rashad i think its safe to say he cant take a good punch but hes only lost once but glass jaw is a little much but i would deffinetly say jds can take a punch better this is going to be a epic on

  17. JMad says:

I don’t like how Bas is putting Overeem down but all these people talking shit about Bas Rutten obviously don’t know what they’re talking about.

  18. Shawn says:

I like Bas, but I hear resentment in that comment. I’ve seen Overeem get KO’d in the past…THE PAST. He hasn’t lost by a KO since Kharitonov 4 or 5 years ago. Actually, I don’t think he’s lost since. His win over Werdum was questionable, more specifically…lack luster. Uncharacteristic of him. I’ve seen him take some good shots, without going down. He’s not as fast as JDS, and I would say not by much, but he definitely has one punch KO power. With that kind of power, you don’t really need to play with combinations. Not saying he doesn’t have any, he just sets up his “combos” after he hurts his opponent with that solid punch or kick. That’s when he pours his combinations.

This will be an epic battle of Heavyweights. I’m not putting any money down on this one. I’m just going to sit back and enjoy the fireworks. I’ll be happy whoever wins, as long as they make a fight of it.

  19. momo says:

    what a bitter old man.

  20. Funny picture! says:

I like how Bas is talking like “yeah, he got a glass jaw” and Overeem is right behind him, geared up to knock him the fuck out. lmao.

  21. mannski says:

reem is going to kick the tits off of jds
