A fight that a number of fans want looks like is going to happen.

Welterweight phenom Rory MacDonald, coming off his dismantling of Jake Ellenburger, is likely to face another dynamic striker in the near future.

During Saturday night’s media scrum, UFC president Dana White was asked about a matchup between MacDonald and Robbie Lawler.

“We like that fight. I think so yeah,” White said when asked if MacDonald vs. Lawler was going to happen.

White did say “no” when asked if the UFC had a date or location planned for the welterweight bout.

Lawler, a Strikeforce transplant, has won two straight since coming back to the UFC. He has scored big KO victories over Josh Koschek and Bobby Voelker that have thrust him into title contention.

MacDonald, ranked No. 3 in the division, has long said that he is itching to have a rematch with Carlos Condit, who gave the Canadian is only loss. Condit will be fighting Martin Kampmann at UFC Fight Night 27.

  1. GRT 3000 says:

sounds sweet…but then again so did McWeirdo – Ellenberger. depends how tentative tri-star trains him for the fight. eeek out the W should be there slogan.

  2. Again.. says:

Yes, make it happen!! Hopefully Lawler doesn’t hesitate like Ellenberger did! Hopefully Rory doesn’t win, another boring fighter to the welterweight roster like GSP.

  3. Dude says:

Ruthless is on a fire and I believe he can beat McDonald but then again we have yet to see him challenged in his last few fights and he could bring a level we haven’t seen before. Either way I’m glad lawler is back at ww, he just wasn’t as explosive at mw
