UFC Heavyweight Champ, Cain Velasquez, Inks New Eight-Fight Contract I UFC News

Following Thursday’s press conference for this weekend’s UFC 157 event in Anaheim, CA, Dana White announced to media that the UFC has just re-signed heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez, to an 8-fight contract. The news comes amidst the UFC’s recent cut of 16 fighters and Dana White’s statement that 100 more cuts lie ahead.
In his talk with the media, White used the Velasquez contract as a justification for the way the UFC handled the recent fighter cuts. “We pay guys more than what their contract says we have to pay them,” said White. “I have three fights left with Cain Velasquez. We just signed a new eight-fight deal with Cain Velasquez. I didn’t have to do that. He deserved it.” Deserved it he certainly did, after regaining his heavyweight belt from Junior Dos Santos in a truly one-sided unanimous decision victory.
Velasquez will begin his second run as heavyweight champ, in addition to his new contract, with his title defense against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva on May 25 at UFC 160.
