UFC headed back to Boston on August 17th to help launch FOX SPORTS 1 | UFC NEWS

UFC President Dana White tweeted today announcing that the UFC is headed back to Boston on August 17th to help launch the new FOX SPORTS 1 channel. The show will be the first major live event on the debut week of FOX’s new all-sports channel.

“We are FINALLY going back to Boston at the TD Garden on Aug 17th for the launch of FOX Sports 1!! We are bringing a SICK card :)” – @danawhite

The UFC has only held one show in Boston since MMA became fully regulated in the state of Massachusetts; UFC 118 Edgar vs. Penn 2 at the TD GARDEN. White stated they have a “SICK card” planned for the return to the arena locally known as the Boston Garden.

Fox is using the Fox Sports 1 channel to compete against other all-sports broadcasting channels like ESPN. The UFC is going to play a huge roll in the new station with multiple live cards airing for the remainder of 2013 and beyond.

The UFC currently has two other major shows planned for August with UFC 163 in Brazil Aug. 3rd, and UFC 164 scheduled for Aug. 31st in Milwaukee. If the numbers from UFC 118 are any indication of how things will go in Boston once again, the UFC can count on a huge payday. UFC 118 drew a crowd of 14,169 in live attendance and had a gate of just over $2.8 million.
