Guillard | "I'm Gonna Be Champion At 155" | UFC NEWS

Lightweight star Melvin Guillard comments on his possible rise to the 155 lb. title.

In speaking with Mike Fleig, of buddhasport.com, Guillard believes it is just a matter of time before he is crowned the champion at 155 pounds.

When asked If he would ever consider switching weight classes Guillard’s response shocked a few of us in the MMA world.

“Not really. I’m content with what’s going on. You know you just have to keep working hard and keep training and keep on getting better. The more time I put in it just puts me closer to my goal and that’s being the champion. I believe I can be champion at 155. There’s no point for me to run to another weight class, I’m gonna be champion at 155.”

BJPENN.com has posted this article 20 times i believe

    • Get rid of Fitch (forever) says:

Maybe he’s talking about in Bamma or KOTC cause so way in hell he’s talking the UFC. I remember about 5 years or so ago when Rich Clemente tapped Guillard out and Guillard jumped up crying like a blittle bitch Rich told him “go learn some jits Melvin” its obvious he doesn’t listen or take advice or learn from all his submission losses. Meilvin landed one lucky punch on Dunham and everyone jumped on his bandwagon and since then he has been nothing but a big disappointment. Dunham beats Melvin 9 out 10 times IMO

      • Reality says:

Melvin totally dominated Dunham. There was no lucky punch there. I noticed that he was winning when he was at the Jackson camp and since he left he started losing again. Hopefully he’s been working his ground game a lot and gains confidence in it. If he gets that part of his game together he can be a force to be reckoned with.

      • Numba1Ghani says:

Haha are you fucking high? Melvin is a monster everyone at 155 fears him he’s faster than everyone and has hendo KO power. He fucking raped evan dunham that fools a little squirt and he got kneed to dust Melvin would knock his ass out in 10 different ways if they fought 10 times don’t joke yourself.

  2. mean170 says:

Maybe in Bellator or some other fight league. Never in the UFC at 155. Sorry, too deep of a division. That shit is so backed up thanks to Frankie that even people that deserve a title shot are kept waiting.

    • DAMN! says:

The UFC needs to eliminate the 170lb division and add a 165 and 175 pound division. Poor fighters who keep on waiting and waiting for title shots that might even get scraped. Atleast they know that they have another option in their future if shit happens.
They could call it Super Lightweight the former and welterweight the latter.

      • James says:

They need a super heavywieght div before that.

        • DAMN! says:

Pretty much. Alot of fighters are having setbacks due to waiting for title shots which they cant so they lose a fight before the title shot in order to stay active. If the UFC wants to trample boxing, they need to add more divisions. My 2 cents

      • Numba1Ghani says:

They need to make a junior-welterweight class at 160lbs and a cruiserweight class at 235lbs

  3. The natural says:

    They need a lw tournament

  4. DMAC says:

Miller fight hasn’t humbled him at all. He’s been in the UFC for the longest and still hasn’t got a title shot, what a crazy roller coaster career. Hope he gets a good fight in soon though.

  5. nick says:

what a retard. you will never be champ, you suck. You would get choked out by my grandmother

  6. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

    He’s on the good drugs.

  7. The people right now in the LW division who would sub Guillard before a championship round or have already done so – Nate Diaz, Jim Miller, Joe Lauzon, Thiago Tavares, Mac Dangzig, Cole Miller, Spencer Fisher, and just about anyone who above Purple Belt Jiu jitsu. Guillard is an exciting fighter to watch but continually gets eaten alive by anyone with that skill set.

  8. Mr Groove says:

If he works his ground game then I would think he can have a shot. He has no problem in the striking game but it’s his ground game that haunts him all the time.

    • mike0414 says:

His striking game isn’t all that great either because he is lazy and cocky. Lauzon showed everyone that. Lauzon?

  9. stephen Riddle says:

    Smh?!

  10. Michael hamlin says:

He needs to learn the ground game!!

  11. ganjaneerUSMC says:

Why does this guy get any interest from anyone. Everytime I’ve seen him fight, he gets his ass kicked. Obviously has no chin if joe dropped him, he has no wrestling pedegree, no good on the ground, what is he good at? Punching, oh my watch out 155ers, there’s a puncher in your division, how lame. Everyone in the ufc can punch, people need to get off this dudes nuts, please.

  12. chardt says:

He won’t be champ of the Parking lot attendants until he learns some submission defense. Put your ego in check and put in the work…oh, and Make weight, dipshit.

  13. Dinglenuts Magee says:

    In what organization?

  14. Joe Mac says:

This is like all the hood rats in north philadelphia talking about chasing that paper and getting rich. Never happening boys!

  15. Jay says:

Lmao no Melvin you will never be champ. Your a choke artist. You work your way up n come close to the title shot then you get tapped. Entertaining fighter as long as you are better than your opponent but if they can challenge you in any area at all of MMA you lose every time. Your the ultimate gate keeper. Plus when u do lose you always have some excuse and try to take away.from your opponents victory. Sorry Melvin but you’ll never be champ of UFC.

  16. Ko_King says:

Melvins high again! Puff puff give…….. U crazy

  17. RoyalMMA says:

Seriously.. y’all are full of shit..
This kid is dynamite.. once he gets his Jitzz game in order which i’m sure he’s working on HARD, he will crush just about anyone in the division. He took a couple of sub L’s and he needed those. He needed to get humbled, get off that high horse and re-evaluate the way he channels his energy. It’s wont happen in 2012 but he will at least fight for the belt in 2013. Not saying he’ll GET IT.. it depends who’s holding it at that time (probably still Bendo or Pettis) but he’ll either get it or get close. I put money on that.. anyone with deep pockets hit me up!

    • mike r says:

This kid sucks along with your sense of judgment of a fighter. This kid has been fighting for year and only have beaten tomato can opponents. He has never once shown any improvement and I suspect he with blame some one else like Greg Jackson for his failures as a fighter.

  18. mike r says:

delusion of grandeur,,,, move along kid, you has terrible technic, you”re always winded, you don’t listen to corner instructions, you don’t improve on your skills, make cry baby excuses for loses, and you are a misfit. Move on to some other fight league, tired of seeing this guy in the UFC.

  19. Chris says:

Just as soon as he learns to defend against a guillotine, everyone will star submitting him with triangles. His cocky-ness and early success have contributed to his downfall. Even if the UFC doesn’t cut him, I’m happy to watch him get choked a couple of times a year.

  20. Dick Diaz says:

i won’t say its impossible but there is no way i’m betting money on that statement.

  21. Jujitsu Player says:

Melvin is clearly talented and extremely athletic, the problem is the 155lb division is the most stacked in the UFC and he is way down the list of contenders right now. i very much doubt he will ever be LW champion in the UFC. I put at least 5 guys ahead of him right now.

  22. KIDD433 says:

Melvin is the fastest and hardest hitter on the feet at 155.His only weakness is submission defense.Thats the only reason hes never had a title shot.He hasnt been beat on the feet yet.very accurate and great takedown defense. He took that Lauzon fight for granted, when there way to cocky and paid for.i believe he took it as a learning experience and will come back with better jits defense. Then he’ll be fucken unstopable !
