You don’t win fights by running

    49-46 Maynard

  2. Bob says:

Clay fought like a bitch but he did get robbed!!

    • KushLoc says:

Were you even watching the same fight as everyone else? That was fucking disgraceful that homeless looking bitch was running away hopping and dancing around doing shuffles for 25 min and he couldn’t even land a single significant strike on Maynard even when he put his hands down and let him try. and so much for having “the most takedowns in LW history”. That was embarrassing you know you’re a fuckin joke when the ref tells you to stop hopping around like a meth smoker and actually fight. Shame on guida and shame on jackson for that strategy. That shit was fucking hard to watch

      • Reality says:

He tried to Condit his way through 😀 .. Glad the judges picked up on that.

        • T.DADDY says:

Lmao.. yeah he did.. I’m not feeling this new clay… Running around like a wildman and not fighting.. come on now.. maynard woulda smashed clay if he wasn’t runnin track the whole. Time

      • Bob says:

I saw the fight and as gay as clay was he won that fight. I dont like it but he landed more shots. What fight did you see? Dana should come out and say their should be a new point system for ppl who run all fight. Clay didnt land anything? Look at maynards face!!! Clay landed more shots and all maynards shots was not clean except when he was in those brief moments in the clinch. I am not a fan of that gay shit but clay won!! What did maynard do to win? He wasnt landing shot all fight and dont say maynard was controlling the fight bc maynard couldnt catch him. clay is a fag but dont get your gay ass emotions in the way of your bias ass judgements!

        • Bud says:

In response to Gray’s face its called scar tissue which opens up pretty quickly when you’re a fighter. I have a good amount on my left eyebrow and full contact boxing I will have a cut within a round 2 at the most. So the wild pillow jabs of Clay were enough to open up the recurring cut on Grays nose plus Clay was throughing fingers out palm strikes.

      • bxer says:

Fuck clay fuck Greg Jackson, what a clown he made of clay, and Kenny Florian was talking like wida was doing something,I understand stick and move but he forgot to stick,if I was Dana white Wida be fire, just what we need niche of clowns trying to win fights by point if I wan to watch that shit I be watching the olimpics,or my sons karate tournament, what part of full contact sport Greg Jackson does not understand he makes all his fighters, no exceptions look like fking pussys,

        • Bud says:

Yea I was like wtf is Kenny talking about, good thing he retired from fighting now he needs to retire from commentating. He was all anti-Maynard last night.

You don’t win fights by running.

    49-46 Maynard

  4. norcal santa cruz says:

what is with the new mexico jackson camp and all of the running around?

    • Bd says:

It’s cuz they can’t fight toe to toe ..

      • You Cant Be Serious says:

Jon jones, gsp, brian stann, carlos condit, travis browne, and more. Cant fight toe to toe??

        • Pat Summerall says:

GSP doesn’t fight toe to toe anymore hes laynprey/point fighter. Guida clearly copied Condits gameplan he had against Diaz.

        • Thug Life says:

You obviously missed GSP’s last 2 fights that were mostly boxing

        • Jay says:

Except condit out struck and out damaged Diaz throughout the fight. Guida has a good first round imo but after that and especially after Maynards clinch he seemed more interested in running and not striking back at all.

  5. norcal santa cruz says:

don’t know why this site isn’t letting me post.

just happy that a greg ‘point fighting’ jackson runner / figher lost

  6. Brend0magic says:

What a frustrating fight to watch, cannot believe what was going through Gray’s mind. Guida was supposed to take the fight to him, but he ran the entire time! Ref shoulda warned him earlier, it would’ve forced him to fight more like they said on the post-fight show.

  7. WrestlingRules says:

Was Guida doing the Jackson mma shimmy that fight? I had motion sickness the whole fight, to bad Grey didn’t he won that fight 50-45/49-46. Guida looked like hell. He;ll never be a champ. Jackson has got him all f’up. If he would have used the movement to create striking angles he might of won, but the dude just did the shimmy dance all night. Grey gives you his chin and you can’t step into it and knock him out. WHAT??? He should lose just for THAT!!!

  8. Keep Fitch (Forever) says:

Clay wasnt robbed can can anyone name one significant strike that Clay landed? NO! all he did was throw like 2 or 3 jabs in the round and run around like a pussy. Gray came to fight even took the risk of taking trying to finish him by submitting him. What Clay did is typical Greg Jackson game plan run around bull crap like Carlos Condit. Gray won the fight quit defending Clay because you in his band wagon.

  9. jones says:

thxx god….im happy no more condit running ,, but ufc is terrrible i did not see this

  10. HokeyPokey says:

Damn. Guida came dressed up like a girl……and fought like one too! Lol. Pretty bad when you cant KO a guy stickin his chin out at you…..but then again, he was a “pretty” woman. Did he watch “Dirty Dancing” before the fight? I mean SHIT dood!

  11. Jblack says:

there is way to much dick ridin for clay. he is weak n a puss. he should retire n go to training mma fighters. where im from u run u lose n plus tha new name u get is Bitch! haha i never liked that fake shit hes on bouncein n ridin. 9-7 wtf should be should be tha next number 1 contender bullshit. he didnt hav fun like he said. too much tough talk!

  12. i think it was the hair they made the right call to have his hair braided. by doing that it gave him to much of a view so he could decide where to strike him. They should rematch and let him leave his hair done. I mean in all his matches he had he did more damage with his hair down. IMO

  13. I am glad says:

Maynard won. It’s one thing to stick and move. But it’s another to move and move. Guida should fault his coaching for such a lame game plan. Guida was actually getting off on running away–he had very little intention of fighting right down to the final bell. He thought he could dance and jab his way to a victory.

Imagine Guida and Edgar matched up, what a dance off that would be. They would argue in the center on who should pursue who…

    • Mike b says:

I agree,Maynard came to fight and clay was just pissing me the fuck off.reminded me of alexander vs kimbo a little bit.glad Maynard got the nod.

    • Slinger says:

really? because edgar dances so much right lol…in and out movement and beautiful footwork is how Edgar fights. Ive never seen Edgar run or dance in any of his fights.

      • The Difference says:

and the big difference is that Edgar strikes more than Guida. Respect to Edgar for being the former champion. But he does tend to hit and run. And, sorry dude, I like boxing, but not so much a “beautiful footwork” fan. I like footwork that works towards gaining the striking advantage–not to avoid being struck.

And what the he!! is an Edgar backer doing on BJ’s website?

        • Jay says:

He ran when Gray almost knocked him out. Frankie is guy fighting guys that are bigger than him every fight. You would think a Penn fan could respect that. This is MMA it’s not a big deal to respect 2 fighters who have fought each other. I’m sure they have just as much respect for each other.

        • Jay says:

Edgar ran when Maynard almost knocked him out for a few secs, but that was survival.

Edgar backer? Maybe that dude is a fan or maybe not. Just cause I think Jon Jones is a great talent doesn’t mean I like him, it just means I don’t let my personal opinions cloud my judgement of reality. I’m sure that someone else could be that way too.

I’m sure he on Bj’s site because Bj is one the greatest talents in UFC history who fights like a true warrior. Besides, Edgar is a guy who’s goes out there and takes punishment trying to fight bigger fighters every fight. You would think a BJ fan could respect that.

FYI I don’t even like Edgar, I don’t hate him, I just prefer fighters like Bendo and Nate in the LW division.

        • Hey Jay says:

Chill out…relax….don’t take life so personally…once you die, life goes on for the living.
no one is really that important on earth.

    • the Natural says:

Edgar would destroy clay wit precision Frankie doesn’t throw just to throw. It’s not right to compare the two frankies footwork is closed too best in world His inn and out on a guys fire. clays footwork close two bottom there’s fighting and raving/running Edgars the champ. Who knocked out Maynard in 12 rnds

  14. Thurgood Jenkins says:

Despite a lackluster main event, the card was pretty damn good. Pearson and Swanson was a slugfest that ended fantastically. Fisher and Stout, entertaining as always.

Ebersole and Waldburger undoubtedly fight of the night.I gotta admit, when I first got into MMA I thought it was all about throwing haymakers and that’s what I liked to see. But the more I watch and the more the sport evolves, I have started appreciating the talent and abilities these guys have. 1st and 2nd round, beautiful grappling and bjj on Walburger’s part. But Ebersole, man, great submission defense. All around he’s got a solid game. I’m looking forward to seeing him again soon. And does anyone have a name for that half cartwheel-type, marble madness kick he threw???

  15. Kirk says:

I was or used to be a huge Guida fan. But last night was terrible. I mean Kalib Starnes terrible. Guida deserves to lose that fight and I think if he fights like that again he should be cut. Bring back Huerta, at least he fought.

  16. Dee says:

I’m starting to become annoyed with Greg Jackson’s tactics. That was the worse MMA display ever. Greg Jackson’s approach to MMA is all about surviving rounds and deceiving the judges into believing that you’ve won. It’s either run for 5 rounds and avoid any kind of contact and hope to fool some idiot judge, or lay on your opponent for 5 rounds and claim that you was effective and dominant. The only fight he has that finishes fights is John Jones and that’s because he is a freek of nature. But I honestly believe if you take away Jone Jones reach and height, he would be doing the same thing as the other fighters in Jackson’s camp.

  17. Majestyk says:

Guida got robbed. I have yet to read one single post where someone mentions what Maynard did to deserve the win. Everyone just offers the same lament about Guida being evasive and “moving and moving”, as opposed to “sticking and moving”. How many jabs and headkicks did Maynard land? The answer is a lot LESS than Guida did. Yes, of course, it was frustrating to watch. It was more frustrating for Maynard because when someone jabs you repeatedly, and all you can do is swing and MISS, it can get frustrating. Although a much less successful version of Condit’s strategy against Diaz, it did the job. We all know that Guida has no punching power, so the fact that he never hurt Maynard is moot. It’s about octagon control, not damage infliction. Landing more strikes, and avoiding almost all of your opponent’s shots due to much better footwork and head movement (he wasn’t just back peddling) IS octagon control. I cannot believe that people are saying that Clay fought like a girl. .Guida is a fearless guy who can take the hardest shot from anyone, but he didn’t come to take shots. He came to win with a very effective strategy. It seems however, that only 1 judge and Kenny Florian agree with me.

    • Sorry Brother says:

All three of you were wrong. Octagon control? If Maynard didn’t go after the fight, they both would’ve been on opposite sides of the Octagon waiting for the other to make the first move. Please don’t tell me you like what Guida did last night. That was not Octagon control. I would rather watch Guida scrap it out like he did against Diego,
Florian, and Gomi than what he did against Maynard. He got more respect in those fights than he did last night. looks at each fight objectively. Maynard had one successful takedown compared to zero for Guida. Maynard took the Significant Strike category 3 round to 2, the total, and had a higher percentage. In total strikes, Maynard had the higher total and percentage, they were even on the rounds at two each for total strikes and tied for one round.

Maynard outstruck Guida. The correct fighter won, either way you look at it. Sorry.

    • T.DADDY says:

Running around isn’t the same as octagon control.. If maynard didn’t go after clay they woulda just been standing there.. I lost a lot of respect for clay.. he was one of my favorite guys to watch till last night.. he knew maynard was gonna fukk him up so he tried to make maynard get tired by running away from him.. didn’t work.. oh yeah kenny florian don’t know shit if he thought clay won

      • Jordon says:

Have you never seen a boxing match before? Taller fighters hit and run, the same thing as Guida did. But nobody says that “If the other fighter did the same thing he they would be on opposite sides of the cage!” It’s a fucking sport you jabronis. Guida had a good gameplan. That is a style of fighting in boxing AND MMA. And guess what? It works if you do it right. So cry all you guys want about him running and blah, blah, blah. He cares just as much as i do. Not at all.

        • Hey Jordon says:

Name one fighter (and the opponent and date of fight) that did what Guida did against Maynard. One, dude. Guida didnt want to fight–he wanted to get a minimum amount of strikes in to win on points. That was his plan. You call it a good plan, but he lost. So obvioiusly it wasn’t a good game plan. If it was a good plan, that would mean that Guida concedes to the fact that Maynard is the better fighter. But Guida’s attitude following the fight showed that he thought he got ripped off. He even thought Maynard was controlling his head by holding his hair! That’s how messed up Guida’s thinking is. And that is the fault of his coaches. They gave him the plan and convinced him that that was the game winning plan. It wasn’t and Guida can’t get that opportunity back. Plus he pissed off the CEO of the UFC! More evidence that the plan was retarded.

Guida lost so many fans after that fight. And the only person he can blame is himself for being an adult who made the wrong choice of going with that plan.

    • Mike b says:

No fucking way clay won that fight.he ran away the whole fucking time.i mean I respect ur opinion but clay didn’t even wanna srike with him.everybody thought condit and Diaz was least condit would strike with nick when he circled away from the cage.clay didn’t take advantage of Maynard’s frustration or his his useless gameplan.Maynard was aggressive and the only one to come close finishing the fight with that guillotine choke.i mean it was a close fight so I can see ur point.

      • Jordon says:

And yeah, this guy has it right. Guida did go overboard, and did not try to inflict any damage really. Im just tired of people talking down and hit and run fighters just because they dont understand the style.

        • Mike b says:

I didn’t know running away from a fight and not engaging for 25 min.was a style used in mma.gimmie a fuckin break man!

  18. CanILive says:

I was pretty happy when the ref warned guida for not engaging. He has the wrong perception of fighting… Goin to start losing fans

  19. Goose says:

I have never seen Guida so afraid to engage in a fight, he even got warned for not engaging and only running. They should of done that during the 2nd round, its sad when Dana even says you deserve it or a point deduction. I have seen Guida take some hard shots from guys who have similar punching power so what was the change this time. I guess since hes getting old he doesn’t want to stand and bang anymore. He’ll never be a top contender just a stepping stone for everyone in the LW division Plus I have never seen Guida get booed during a fight

  20. Sheldon says:

Ok Edersole was badass with that chest hair arrow. I laughed my butt off when I saw that turned to my girlfiend and said would you love me if I did that…she didn’t respond which means I’ll do it but with the arrow pointing down instead.

It must suck losing to a guy who shaved his chesthair into an arrow

  21. Q says:

Still 10 times more exciting than any GSP fight. The decision was good UFC should ship clay back to strike force

  22. Damnu says:

The jersey state ac made an example of the running game an the ref made a great call! I was more frustrated than gray hell! Does UFC test for methamphetamines, cuz it looked like Guida was on it

  23. A.James says:

Im happy Gray didn’t lose that match. I’d be ripped if I lost a fight like that. I hope Jackson’s camp realizes the judges aren’t buying what theyre selling and goes back to the drawing board.

  24. A.James says:

A fight shouldn’t be about winning. It should be about proving that you’re the best beyond a shadow of a doubt.

  25. Slinger says:

I dont wanna hear anyone say anything about Edgar again about running, being on a bike, etc…what he does is movement with footwork. Perfect example of running was what we saw last night, thats running!

    • T.DADDY says:

Edgar is a fukkn track star.. he ran from BJ and he ran from Maynard.. BJ won the first fight …and they shoulda stopped the fight when Maynard dropped edgars bitch ass wat was it 4 times in the first rd..lmao.. all frankie can do is out run guys and throw lil jabs.. I can’t wait till he moves down and Aldo smashes him

      • Mike b says:

How can u not respect Frankie?he has a heart of a fucking lion.he comes to fight and he brings it every time.ill bet u he can kick ur fucking ass.ingnorant ass people, unbelievable!!

  26. kim says:

What a fckin game plan distinguished by jackson it was a shame for guida knowing that maynard has a knockout power well then OA for both of his “jackson guida” it was a 5min laughtrip

  27. chris says:

Edgar runs too for sure. But at least Edgar is skilled and he isn’t necessary that boring he is just a points fighter. Guida is fucking boring and a points fighter. Fuck that guy I fell asleep in the second round and just caught the fight now lol

  28. Analyser says:

All these Guida got robbed comments are farcical the one redeeming factor that Clay brought up in the post fight press conference was that when the Compustrike(sp) scores come out it will basically show he did the most damage/shots in the fight 5mins later a reporter tells him the scores for strikes landed/thrown and he’s silenced as Maynard topped him on both so can all you ill informed people stop spouting nonsense and look at the facts never mind the disgusting running tactic he employed to frustrate Gray which lost him the fight more than anything.

  29. Xaninho says:

Guida just did the stand-up version of lay n pray. He avoided the fight for 5 rounds!

Somehow I just knew guida would disappoint again. I used to like that dude’s fighting style, but nowadays he’s either lay n praying or he’s running around without throwing strikes.

Luckily the other fighters brought some good fights. I knew Pearson-Swanson would be a great fight, Cub Swanson brought exactly what I thought he would.

  30. slacker says:

I thought it was a decent fight for the first 3 rounds, with Guida doing enough counter striking, even with his obvious strategy to avoid heated exchanges. However, for the 4th and 5th, he was definitely not engaging enough – a lot of move, no stick. It was a very close fight, but it’s good that Guida lost because a circling, stick and move fight strategy should not be rewarded when it becomes obvious that the fighter is disengaging and trying to run out the clock.

  31. Carlos says:

Funny thing everyone was calling Maynard a bitch because someone on his team put in a complaint on Guida’s hair. I wonder if some of those guys would still say that after the bitch performance Guida put on last night. Or did Guida just do that as retaliation for having to do that.

  32. Balls McGee says:

Well spencer fisher got screwed fuck guida. Fisher beat down stout. Stout took him down did no damage and won 30-27. Judges think a takedown means a win.

  33. Unquestionably imagine that that you said. Your favorite justification seemed to be on the internet the easiest thing to be mindful of. I say to you, I definitely get irked even as other folks think about worries that they plainly don’t realize about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest and also outlined out the entire thing with no need side effect , other people can take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thank you
