Following Stephens Win Cerrone Wants Fight In Denver | UFC NEWS

After picking apart a very game Jeremy Stephens, Donald Cerrone is ready to jump back in the octagon, sooner then some may think. Following the UFC on Fuel TV 3 win, Cerrone is ready to jump on the Denver fight card at UFC 150 in August.

In his previous fight Cerrone was defeated by Nate Diaz and is somewhat still coping with the feelings after such a tough loss and was looking to get back to the basics Tuesday night.

“Definitely coming off that last fight sucked, mainly going out there and having fun was what tonight was about.” Said Cerrone, following the Stephens fight. “It was just trying to do what I do and have fun like I do in the gym.”

Tuesday night Cerrone did just that, picked apart Stephens and utilized his jab pretty much the whole fight. He out struck and dominated the entire bout and went home a winner via Unanimous Decision.

Still, “Cowboy” feels that he has more to prove and work on.

“I’m slowly making the steps. I wish I would have attacked on the ground a little bit better.”

Some think Cerrone may be on the road to an eventual title shot, but Cerrone is nowhere near looking past future opponents and is ready for whatever Dana White and UFC match makers throw at him. When asked about his next opponent, a reporter threw out a possible future bout with UFC lightweight star Anthony Pettis.

“That’d be a good match-up. Stylistically it would work out perfectly for me, he will stand and want to fight, try to take me down, and then ill beat him up. We’ll keep fighting. It’d be a good fight, especially for Denver.”

Pettis is the former WEC lightweight champ and would make an excellent opponent for the enthusiastic Cerrone.

Let’s see if Dana allows this fight to go down in Denver.

I think this is what alot of people wanted to see in WEC and now could possibly get the chance to see it! Thinks its a great match up, as they both love to stand but also have different stand up styles.. Cerrone has that traditional muay thai style which is almost flawless and Pettis has that Taekwondo style with the flashy moves.. Something great to watch! But there is one factor, Cerrone has the advantage in the wrestling department which could give him the advantage.. But I see a stand up war between the two! Dana needs to make this happen!

Drop to 145. Cerrone vs. Aldo. Dana, make it so.

Cerrone is like 6ft. Can he even make that weight? And besides the weight cut, Aldo would beat him like he owed him money. I like Cerrone but Aldo is in another class in my opinion

  4. A.James says:

Pettis would whip that ass in a stand up battle. Respect for Cowboy none the less.

  5. Not You says:

Pettis should stay away and Cerrone should keep climbing the latter. Pettit is on the cusp of getting a title shot and at this point a fight with Cerrone would be a big step down. After another fight Cerrone can start throwing around names like that for his next fight.

The guy is 6-1 in the ufc and Cerrone would be a step down?? Cerrone is still on the door steps of a title fight. Losing to Nate isn’t as bad as it once was lol he is now the #1 contender which would’ve been Cerrone if he had beat Diaz. Cerrone n Pettis will put on a hell of a show. Standup would be a war and the scrambles they could create on the ground could be very entertaining. I hope they make this fight happen and if its in Denver that’d make it even better since I’m going to try n go to that show.
