The UFC will debut in Singapore in 2014 with UFC Fight Night Singapore: Ellenberger vs. Saffiedine on January 4.
The fight card has yet to be finalized, but the main event has been set as a five-round bout between two top welterweight fighters in Jake Ellenberger and Tarec Saffiedine.

Ellenberger (29-7) is coming off a unanimous-decision loss to Rory MacDonald at UFC on FOX 8.  Despite the loss, Ellenberger still sits near the top of the 170-lb. division.   Saffiedine (14-3) is riding a 4-fight winning streak into the Octagon – a streak that includes a unanimous-decision victory over Nate Marquardt to earn the Strikeforce welterweight title in the promotion’s last event.  In Singapore, Saffiedine will make his UFC debut.

The card will also feature a wealth of talented Asian mixed martial artists, as long-time Japanese MMA fighter, Tatsuya Kawajiri, will make his UFC debut against Hacran Dias in a featherweight bout.  Other bouts that have been announced include Katusnori Kikuno of Japan taking on Quinn Mulhern in a lightweight bout, as well as two bouts between Japanese and South Korean fighters: Kiichi Kunimoto of Japan vs. Hyun Guy Lim of South Korea in a welterweight bout, and Japanese Shunichi Shimizu vs. South Korean Kyung Ko Kang in a bantamweight bout.

More bouts will be announced in the coming weeks.

Mark Fischer, the Managing Director of UFC Asia, spoke about UFC Fight Night Singapore kicking off the series of UFC events to take place in Asia next year.

UFC is excited to have finally landed in Singapore, a growing regional hub for both marquee sporting events and for mixed martial arts.  The Singapore government’s vision in this area and support from the likes of the Singapore Sports Council, Singapore Tourism Board and Economic Development Board; as well as partners like Marina Bay Sands encouraged UFC to be the first global sports body to set up its Asian headquarters in Singapore.  We know UFC fans across the region have been hoping to see world-class fighters in action and what better way to kick off our series of events in Asia in 2014 than through an event right here at the beautiful Marina Bay Sands integrated resort.”

Tickets for UFC Fight Night Singapore: Ellenerger vs. Saffiedine go on sale Thursday, November 7.
