UFC Fight Night 36: Francis Carmont Enjoys Underdog Role against Jacare Souza
Francis Carmont (22-7) is riding a streak of 11 wins into the Octagon this Saturday when he faces Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza at the co-main event at UFC Fight Night 36.
But despite that momentum – six of those wins have come inside the UFC – Carmont is still considered to be the heavy underdog to Jacare. Fight Bet Network has Carmont as a +415 underdog, meaning a winning bet on Carmont would pay off over four-to-one.
Of course, Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza (19-3-0-1) has momentum of his own, winning his last five fights – all of those by submission or T/KO. In fact, he has gone 9-1 in his last ten fights, with seven victories coming by way of a finish.
All this set the odds-makers’ minds to set Carmont as a 4-1 underdog. For the Tristar fighter, that’s exactly where he wants to be.
“For me, it doesn’t bother me to be the underdog,” Carmont told the Toronto Sun. “I’ve actually performed better when people have kind of counted me out. I’m actually really happy going into this fight this way.”
UFC Fight Night 36 takes place Saturday, February 15 in Jaragua, Brazil. Preliminary bouts will stream live on UFC Fight Pass beginning at 7:30pm/4:30pm ETPT, and the main card will air live on FOX Sports 1 beginning at 10:30pm/7:30pm ETPT. The event is headlined by a middleweight bout between Lyoto Machida and Gegard Mousasi.
