‘UFC Fight Night 29: Maia vs. Shields’ Official For Oct. 9 In Brazil

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has officially announced its plans for the highly anticipated ‘Fight Night 29′ event in Brazil.

Set to take place on October 9 at the Jose Correa Arena in Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil, ‘UFC Fight Night 29: Maia vs. Shields’ will air on Fox Sports 1 and feature a welterweight clash between Jake Shields and Demian Maia in the evenings main event.

So far eight-bouts are official for the recently confirmed Wednesday fight night.

Demian Maia is currently riding high on a three-fight win streak following his drop to the UFC’s welterweight division. The former middleweight title challenger has bested the likes of Rick Story, Dong Hyun Kim and Jon Fitch to cement himself as a top 10 170 pounder and put him on the path to a title shot.

For Shields, after a scary stint of back-to-back losses to GSP and Jake Ellenberger he has bounced back and put himself on a nice little run. His most recent victory came in June when he beat Tyron Woodley via split decision.

The lineup for ‘Fight Night 26′ so far is as follows:

Demian Maia vs. Jake Shields
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Erick Silva
Rony Jason vs. Jeremy Stephens
Matt Hamill vs. Thiago Silva
Joey Beltran vs. Fabio Maldonado
Raphael Assuncao vs. T.J. Dillashaw
Rodrigo Damm vs. Hacran Dias
Chris Cariaso vs. Iliarde Santos

this card looks pretty good for being free

  2. GOT RID OF FITCH (forever) Thanks Dana says:

I think once Sheilds name is on a card it pretty much ruins any excitement regardless of who else is on it.

I still remember what Sheilds did to the live crowd in Winnepeg. All the prelim fights before Sheilds were awesome and somehow the UFC had Sheilds as the last fight on the pre lims and he completely shutdown a totally jacked up crowd for the rest of the night. All excitement going into the main event was ruined by Sheilds. Dana was PISSED. Anyone else and he probably would have released them. I don’t know why Dana has a soft spot for Sheilds because he is just as boring if not more than Lay n pray Fitch

Shields is the new Fitch. It would be awesome if I could see the Fitch knockout in person

  4. 757 says:

Shields is great on the ground. Maia will have a hard time submitting him. Unfortunately Shields has better hands too. Don’t be suprised if shields wins

    Surprised …my bad

  6. GRT 3000 says:

nice – this will be a ground fight I look forward to. Finally, someone who isn’t afraid to grapple with Shields. all the better for him, since he has piss poor ability to take his opponents down…at least in the UFC.
