We also saw Donald Cerrone go to war with Rafael dos Anjos in a lightweight battle and a handful of TUF alumni go to work as well. The card was stacked from top to bottom and there were many exciting fights packed with explosive finishes and unexpected upsets.
Kelvin Gastelum made his first UFC appearance following his championship TUF run as he defeated Bryan Melancon in the first round. The fight was also Gastelum’s first career fight at welterweight and, if you missed it, he looked great. Check out all the highlights here.
Following the night’s great lineup of fights the UFC awarded the top performers “Fight of the Night” bonuses. Each winner was awarded an extra $50,000 on top of their fight purse for their great performances. Here are the UFC Fight Night 27 Bonus Winners:
- Brandon Thatch Wins Knock Out of the Night for his amazing UFC debut victory. He absolutely ran through Justin Edwards in the first round of their fight and he is well deserving of the award. He rocked Edwards early and never let him off the hook after that. Edwards never had a chance against Thatch in this bout and we will definitely be keeping a close eye on this kid! His future looks bright!
- Zak Cummings Wins Submission of the Night for his outstanding D’Arce choke submission in the final seconds of the first round. Cummings used a neck crank to break down Benny Alloway and then he smoothly transitioned the neck-crank to a D’Arce choke and cut off the airway of his opponent to earn himself a beautiful submission win. Cummings is also well deserving of the bonus tonight.
- Martin Kampann & Carlos Condit Win Fight of the Night for their amazing main event performances. Kampann pressed the pace of the fight from the beginning and continued to come after Condit but it was Condit who displayed the better striking, which is what won him the fight in the 4th round. However, both men put on a fatastic fight for the fans and this fight was a war from the start to the finish and it is extremely well deserving of winning Fight of the Night.
