UFC Fan Expo to Feature First MMA Combine in July
The UFC will be bringing the first-ever MMA Combine to the UFC Fan Expo prior to UFC 162 on July 6.
The MMA Combine will be similar to the popular NFL Combine held every year before the draft, where college athletes perform tests to demonstrate their athletic abilities for scouts and professional teams. The UFC’s MMA Combine will feature some of these tests with MMA-specific tests added in.
UFC fighters Urijah Faber and Phil Davis started a website called MMADraft.com, a platform for amateur fighters.
“MMADraft.com came about from the idea that we needed to create opportunities for amateur MMA athletes. We want to document the hard work and accomplishments of amateurs so that when they decide to turn pro, they will have a history of their career. MMA Draft will become the premier platform for amateurs to promote themselves.”
The Combine will be limited to 100 amateur fighters. Fighters interested in participating may create profiles on MMADraft.com and register for the Combine.
The MMA Combine is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 6 in Las Vegas. No venue or time has been set as of yet. The Combine will take place in conjunction with the UFC’s 4th of July weekend Fan Expo leading up to the UFC 162 main event between Chris Weidman and middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
