UFC Delivers on Sick Teen’s ‘Bucket List’ Request
There has been little to smile about lately in the life of Jake Stoneking
The 19-year-old is stricken with medulloblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer.
After months and months of treatments and medications, doctors said that cancer has spread to his spinal cord. With no guarantee that he would live another three months, the Stonekings were determined to max out his remaining days so Jake created a bucket list and at number two was a trip to a live UFC event.
When news of Stoneking’s request hit social media it gained momentum and soon UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, got wind of Jake’s story and soon after, the wish was granted.
FOX Sports has more of the details:
On Saturday night, Jake walked out with Johny Hendricks for the main event of UFC 171 here at American Airlines Center and stepped into the Octagon after the fight. For the main card, he’s sat in the front row with UFC president Dana White and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta. And before that, he got the full VIP treatment, hanging out with UFC fighters like Forrest Griffin, Gilbert Melendez and Nick Diaz backstage while watching the prelims.
“I never dreamt I’d do it in a million years,” Jake said. “This is insane. I shouldn’t be here.”
