Dana White On Drug Testing | "Yes, we're going to do our own testing,we're sorting it out now." | UFC News

By Jamie McAllister
UFC President Dana White comments to the Los Angeles Times.

White comments on the UFC implementing its own drug testing procedures following the recent situation with Alistair Overeem.

“The steroid, [performance-enhancing drug] thing affects the whole sport. The key is to make sure these guys never get on it, because once they do, they change. The problem with Overeem is that I want to sit in a room with him man to man and believe him. He told me before he ever fought for us, ‘Don’t worry, I’m the most tested athlete in sports.’ But I think we have about 42 fights a year … you have a guy or two popping [positive tests] here and there, that’s a pretty good ratio…. Yes, we’re going to do our own testing, order these guys into [a lab]; we’re sorting it out now. You have to do this to save the sport. You can’t have these guys fighting on this stuff.”

  1. Jc says:

Overeem gets 9 months for ducking drug test and then test 14 times over the normal range, whilst Diaz gets 12 months for weed. What a joke

    • Gould says:

Agreed 100%. Diaz wasnt even high he just had metabolites in his system.. not a fan of his in the least but this is complete BS

      • Suck my dick says:

        Lol

      • cntybollax says:

difference is that they could not prove substance abuse on reem and could on diaz
diaz had already fought while breaking rules where as overeem hadnt fought

if they had done this after the fight then reem would have had 12 months like chael

        • They couldn’t PROVE it here (since he has a med card, it just being in his system is not ABUSE), which is why he’s probably going to sue. He’s got the cash.

I’m glad they’re testing, and I hope they do it to the extreme.

    • Mike says:

He is right. If this is a real pro sport, and not some backyard fight, then there has to be testing.

    • BobO says:

      Unbelievable isn’t it. ~BobO

    • GET RID OF FITCH ( forever) says:

If the UFC really wanted to weed out the CHEATERS like Sonnen they would start by randomly testing any and all fighters who have been busted before and keep testing them once a month.

  2. jpeters says:

I guess Ben Askren called it like it is and and was right after all….. :)

  3. Big Show says:

Sonnen got caught for using ilegal TRT to try to beat Anderson, and now those stupid people from the NSAC allow him to use it… is this a joke or what? TRT is another way for dopping even if you are 35… Anderson Silva is older and he doesn´t use these cain of stuff.. in the other hand you have the Nick Diaz case, and it´s a joke what the NSAC are doing, those are the ones who are high, stupid people ruling the fearness of the sports like always

  4. Big Show says:

Sonnen got caught for using ilegal TRT, and now the NSAC allow him to use it, is this a joke or what? seriosly something wrong is happening under the table there…

    • He didn’t “get caught”, it was basically a paperwork issue: he never bothered to file it or some shit. He’s on it legitimately (sort of. Obviously he shrank his balls before), which is why he can use it to get back to NORMAL levels.

      • jdog says:

Hey read what you post. Sonnen did get caught, if it had been just a paper issue as you stated then he wouldn’t have been 16.7 to 1. He was caught no ifs ands or BUTS!

      • Xaninho says:

If he had normal testosterone levels the NSAC wouldn’t even have noticed he was on TRT or whatever roid he was on.

  5. People are inherently stupid says:

People talk like TRT or roids turns you into the Hulk. Its a small edge. Usually in recovery. Some of you talk like its the only reason someone has won a fight. Athletes use enhancers all the time. Some get caught, most dont.

    • wow says:

      i agree bruhhhh dayum

    • Kaddy_Wompus says:

But the edge is what people are looking for… small or large. What it boils down to, is that that small edge is not fair to the others who do not use a substance to “recover” or for what ever excuse. You are making it sound like its okay for a trucker to use meth when they work.

    • Xaninho says:

That ‘small edge’ you’re talking about is the difference between a gatekeeper and a contender/champion.

  6. STFU Your all bitch ass nigglets!

  7. MeMo818 says:

People always look for excuses why they lost..or why they won’t fight…Overeem hasn’t lost a fight since 2007…someone at the top of the chain who doesn’t favor him…will look for a way to slow down the REEM!!

  8. MeMo818 says:

People always look for excuses why they lost..or why they won’t fight…Overeem hasn’t lost a fight since 2007…someone at the top of the chain who doesn’t favor him…will look for a way to slow down the REEM!!…Fuck JDS..he would get trampled by Overeem…

  9. monkey juice says:

Bitches. Go suck your girlfriends dick. Take ped’s and entertain me. Roid monkeys are entertaining. Go watch the axe murderer in his pride days. THATS WHAT’S UP BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROIDS ENTERTAIN!!!!!!!dont believe the testing hype. This ain’t the fuckin Olympics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Gmvn says:

Some people want a sport not just a brutal spectacle just go to a bodybuilding contest if you want to see Roid heads

  10. truth says:

It’s funny how first he says that it’s impossible for UFC to test all fighters, but yet they have time to monitor what their fighters are tweeting
