UFC Boss Goes Off On Fighter Pay Issue

“That might sound f— mean and harsh and [mocking tone of voice] ‘why should somebody not matter, everybody matters.’ We’re getting to where we are in a society now where, everyone wins a trophy. No, everyone doesn’t win a f— trophy. The guys who stand out and the guys who make it exciting, the guys who raise to the top are the guys who deserve the money.”

“The UFC, every time we do a fight, whether its on pay-per-view or on TV or whatever, people make the decision to stay home on a Saturday night and not do anything else when there’s movies, dinners, spending time with families, “White said. “There’s a lot of s– to do on a Saturday night. These people make a decision to stay home on a Saturday night and watch our show.

“We get a show with a bunch of guys who want to push against the f— fence and stand there for 15 f— minutes and try to squeak out a win? How many people do you think are gonna tune in next Saturday? And if this keeps continuing, this becomes f— boxing, where guys keep running around in circles and nobody fights and you walk away going ‘this fight sucked.'”

“Be the guy who stands out,” White said. “You’re the guy people want to see again. You’re the guy people want to spend money for. You’re the guy people by tickets, PPV, people stay home on Saturday night. John Cholish is not that f— guy and never will be. So now John Cholish says ‘We don’t get paid enough money.’ No, you didn’t get paid enough. You know why you didn’t get paid enough? Cause you didn’t f— deserve it.”

“Look how long Sam Stout is in the UFC,” White said. “Sam Stout is a guy who, he hasn’t won any world titles, he hasn’t been talked about as one of the greatest fighters or the top contenders or any of that s—. Sam Stout is a f— animal who comes out and loves to fight and every time he comes out to fight he puts on an amazing show.

“Joe Lauzon is not seen as the top guy in his division,” White continued. “He’s not the champion. Do you know how many people go f— crazy when I saw Joe Lauzon is on the card? Because people love to watch him fight. Joe Lauzon has won more fighter bonuses than I think anybody. If you are that guy, the system works for you. But if you are not that guy, then boo f— hoo, you don’t matter.”

    Dana is absolutely right

  2. The natural says:

Fu dana but ur right about that but all the rates need an extra 0 at the end u guys are fucking over everyone. Anderson Silvia shld be getting 6 mill to show an 6 mill bonus not this bs u put out there then the fighter on the main event who remained undefeated is onl getting 25k are u fing kidding me add a Zero. I read the basic ufc contract they posted which stated if a fighter wins 3 fights in a row his fourth fight shall b a minimum of 85k so what the hell is this garbage

And the fighters sign the contract. Wanna know why? Because UFC is still A) the most money they will make at that stage of their career and B) because your name recognition goes upward. I agree some fighters should get paid more. But I saw a co main even for a Mayweather fight were the fighters made $10K. UFC has their pay distributed fairly, for the most part. Those who complain don’t entertain…

  3. Chris says:

Maybe if the UFC didn’t cut the legs off of every organization that tried to give fighters a chance to work, than fighters wouldn’t make an issue about the pay. Everyone without a belt has their head on the chopping block. Potentially jobless after 2 fights, all of them need to make as much as they can, when they can.

I was always told as a child “Open your mouth and show how stupid you are”. It’s now so clear why that was some of the best advise I was ever given. Keep up the “F” bombs Dana! you’re kind of an R rated cross between Freddie Blassie and Don King. We know that special treatment around purse and contracts has raised its ugly head in the UFC on more then one occasion. So step down of that OH SO HIGH HORSE. Plus…Many a fan has walked away on a Sat. night (after paying 60.00) saying “those fights F’n sucked”. Here’s a new recipe for ya; 1 modicum of humility with a dash of silent effort. Stir and place into the reinventing oven. Close your mouth and let your actions / success speak for you……. F Face
