UFC Boosts Fuel TV To Record-Setting Month
The month of April proved to be Fuel TV’s most-viewed month to date, and much of that success comes from the network’s frequent UFC programming.
With a UFC event every weekend in April, Fuel TV accordingly increased its UFC coverage, broadcasting one live main card, all four live weigh-ins and post-fight press conferences, one live preliminary card, and the network’s regular repertoire of UFC programming.
Fuel TV was up 75% in household rating and 67% in total viewers over the month of April, according to Nielsen Media Research. The latter figures indicate that, at any point during April 2012, Fuel TV had an average of 18,000 viewers; this past April, the network had an average of 30,000.
In 2013 alone, Fuel TV is up 57% in household ratings, 50% in total viewers and 44% among men aged 18-49 compared to last year.
Michael Mulvihill, Senior Vice President of FOX Sports’ Programming and Research, stated that Fuel TV’s performance in this past month is indicative of the UFC’s growth since moving to network television.
“It’s encouraging,” said Mulvihill, “to see major growth in the hard-to-reach Men 18-49 demographic that provides so much value to sports advertisers, especially as much of this programming prepares to migrate to FOX Sports 1 this summer.”
Beginning in August, FOX will be launching FOX Sports 1 as its new national network. The UFC is expected to air a spectacular fight-card to help kick off the new network. Much of the UFC’s programming that currently runs on FX and Fuel TV will be moving to FS1 this summer.
