UFC 169 Results: Aldo Retains UFC Featherweight Title, Defeats Lamas after 5 Full Rounds

The big question was whether or not Ricardo Lamas would be able to properly block Jose Aldo’s leg kicks. It took until the second round to figure it out, but the answer was simply ‘no’.

Lamas tried to counteract Aldo’s leg kicks in the first by throwing leg kicks of his own but all of them were checked. The first round was essentially a feeling out process and we started to see Jose Aldo loosen up in the second.

Aldo landed almost twenty leg kicks by the time the third round ended, but Lamas’ walking did not look effected by the attack. Regardless, Aldo was superior throughout the rest of the fight.

At one point, Ricardo Lamas had Jose Aldo hoisted up in the air and he still was not able to take him down; Aldo’s offense is second to none. Seconds later, Aldo took him down and eventually transitioned to the back of Lamas. Aldo’s execution of the rear naked choke was quick and deadly, but Lamas was intelligent in pressing his back against the cage so he couldn’t torque.

Maybe this fight wasn’t the most exciting on the card, but it was truly amazing to see Jose Aldo be so dominant in yet another performance. Jose Aldo started to fade and gas in the fourth and fifth rounds, but he persevered and came out on top.

Jose Aldo def. Ricardo Lamas by way of Unanimous Decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46)
