‘UFC 168: Weidman vs. Silva’ Medical Suspensions Report

It’s no surprise that Anderson Silva is at the top of the list for medical suspensions following UFC 168: Weidman vs Silva 2. The event took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV last Saturday, December 28.

Medical suspensions were released Monday by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

After snapping his leg in half after a checked leg kick attempt against Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman, Anderson Silva was rushed to a Las Vegas hospital and underwent emergency surgery to repair his shattered leg. After having his leg reset by UFC orthopedic surgeon Dr. Steven Sanders, Silva is looking at about six months to recover.

There are three other fighters facing a six-month lay off as well after Saturday night’s excitement. After a brutal knockout by the hands of Travis Browne, Heavyweight Josh Barnett literally got his face broken as he awaits clearance from a doctor for a facial fracture. Dustin Poirier, though he came out the victor in his bout against Brazilian Diego Brandao, must have his injured left shoulder cleared. Finally, Manny Gamburyan must be cleared for an injured left knee after his decision loss to Dennis Sever. If not cleared Gamburyan faces up to six months on the sidelines.
